The Cause

Children’s Place Association is a Chicago-based charity that helps children overcome illness and extreme poverty so

they can lead healthy, productive lives. Its model of health care, education and holistic family support lifts children

out of poverty, improves their health and puts them on the path to become empowered young adults.

Opened in 1991 in response to the AIDS crisis, it now serves children and families confronting a range of health

conditions, including cancer, spina bifida, HIV and more. It helps 350 Chicago-area children and caregivers annually,

plus 330 children in Haiti. Over its 28 years of operation it has changed the future for nearly 6,000 children and

caregivers.

The Event

The Once Upon A Time Gala, benefiting Children’s Place Association, is one

of Chicago’s premier charity balls. The annual black-tie event attracts 400

supporters, including decision makers from leading Chicago-area businesses.

It is the nonprofit organization’s single largest source of private revenue,

raising nearly a half million dollars in a single evening. This year’s Gala will be

held on April 13, 2019 at one of Chicago’s newest venues, Rockwell on The

River.

Highlights of the 2019 Gala will include award presentations to some of our

most dedicated supporters.

Children’s Place Association is a 501c3 charitable organization.

Contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

WHO WE ARE For more than a quarter century Children’s Place Association has reached out to children whose lives and futures are in jeopardy. We serve Chicago’s most vulnerable children and families – those overwhelmed by illness, poverty, home-lessness and abandonment. Opened in 1991 in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis, today Children’s Place helps children and families facing a wide range of health issues – including cancer, epilepsy, autism and HIV. Besides serious illness, the common factor among those we serve is extreme poverty.

WHAT WE DO What happens in childhood has a profound effect on the rest of life. Chicago’s most vulnerable children, those living in extreme poverty and facing serious illnesses, often lack access to the support they need during childhood. Many of their families subsist on annual incomes of $5,000 or less, live in communities with high crime and unemployment and face housing insecurity and hunger. Survival is at the heart of their daily lives, but it doesn’t need to be. This is why Children’s Place Association exists. We provide critical assistance to children and—importantly—to their families to maximize the impact on a child’s future. Our services focus on four key areas of impact: health, education, family stability and financial stability. Our comprehensive approach helps children and families overcome difficult life circumstances and break the cycle of poverty and illness.
