Greetings from The Broken Brown Egg,

Being what some would consider a young bride of 23, I expected that my family would be well on its way

to fruition by now, 5 years later. I was, as most are, conditioned to believe that after love and marriage,

 baby carriages soon follow. However, I soon realized that infertility stood in the way of that dream. Not

long after, I found that infertility actually stands in the way of 7.3 MILLION American dreams. As I began

to research and educate myself about the resources, causes and treatments for infertility, I was again

awestruck when I found that while African Americans are predisposed to many of the health conditions and

 behaviors that lead to infertility; they were also seldom represented in the materials and research. I felt theneed to change that. Through my nonprofit, The Broken Brown Egg, Inc, I have begun to not only raise awareness about thisvery important subject but also funding for research, grants and support for African American hopefulfoster/adoptive/assisted reproductive technology parents. Our efforts are also extended to youth andindividuals who seek to become parents later rather than sooner, as we seek to preserve reproductive healthand family options. Your support would be greatly appreciated and would help us to continue to providesuch valuable resources.

As the only group in Illinois specifically geared towards the African American community, our efforts have

 been recognized by Resolve:The National Infertility Association, The American Fertility Association, LotusBlossom Infertility Consulting, The Fertility Partnership, The Tinina Cade Foundation, and the Families of Color Initiative of New York, among others.

I am pleased to formally invite you to our first annual A.H.A. Moment ( Awareness.Hope.Activism) gala onFriday, September 17, 2010. For this, our formal introduction to the community, we are pleased toannounce that a significant portion of our proceeds will go towards funding a Tinina Q. Cade FoundationFamily Building Grant. The Family Building Grant is an annual grant which provides six families a max of $10,000 for In Vitro Fertilization procedures.
