SPONSORSHIP AND CORPORATE
SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES
2018
Mission Statement
To promote and preserve the independence and
dignity of the aging population.
WHAT WE DO
WHO WE ARE
Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) is a consortium of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties
and the cities of Lansing and East Lansing. It is the state-designated Region 6 Area Agency on
Aging. Founded in 1974, TCOA has helped older adults and persons with disabilities to remain
independent in their own homes and communities for nearly 45 years.
TCOA connects older adults to information, supports, and services in the community. Over 19,000 people turn to TCOA every year, and we are able to assist them through a variety of resources and programs. TCOA’s Meals on Wheels program utilizes the power of volunteers to help deliver nutritious meals to seniors over the lunch hour. The Crisis Services for the Elderly program assists seniors who are facing utility shutoffs or other nonmedical emergencies by working directly with utility companies and community partners to help get bills paid. Through the Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP), trained counselors provide professional, unbiased information to seniors who have health insurance questions. TCOA also provides evidence-based workshops for those who want to learn disease self-management skills. Caregiver supports, general information and assistance, and other in-home services to keep seniors healthy and independent also reflects the variety of services that TCOA offers. At the core of all that we do is “person-centeredness,” meaning that we always take client preferences into account first and foremost.
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THIS WORK
• SPONSOR EVENTS. Event sponsorships are the primary source of revenue for TCOA
events. There are several opportunities for your business to sponsor our Run for the Ages
5K, Meals on Wheels Charity Golf Outing, and the Annual Dinner and Auction. Most
sponsorship levels come with opportunities for your staff to participate in these fun and
charitable events. See pages 3-6.
• MATCHING GIFTS. Does your company participate in match programs when employees
contribute money or volunteer hours to charitable organizations? See page 7.
• ORGANIZE VOLUNTEER GROUPS. Volunteer work is essential to the success of
TCOA programs and services for older adults. Allow your employees to staff a Meals on
Wheels route once per month, once per week, or every week day by Adopting a Route.
Learn more about this and other volunteer opportunities on page 8.

Are you familiar with corporate match programs? Even if you don’t currently have one in place, you are probably familiar with the concept. Several employers and financial institutions participate. Corporate match programs help nonprofits, like TCOA, by matching charitable contributions from their employees and/or donating to the organizations where their employees volunteer.
What this means is that with your help, your employees’ donations could have twice the impact for a nonprofit like TCOA! Giving ratios vary among companies, but they may range from fifty cents for every dollar up to a 2:1 match. Or, if your employees are volunteering with Meals on Wheels or another program at TCOA, a match program may give financial donations to TCOA for the time they dedicate to helping seniors.
How can you support TCOA through matching gift programs? If you have a program in place, let your employees know how they can increase their giving power. People often give charitable gifts at the end of the year, and by letting your employees know you will match their gifts to TCOA, you will motivate them to give! If you do not have a match program in place, consider “informally” matching employees who request your help for their favorite charity.
Matching gift programs are an ideal way to combine individual altruism with corporate giving. TCOA is grateful for the local support that area businesses and individuals provide. If you would like to know more about how TCOA can benefit from matching gifts, please feel free to contact Casey Cooper at [email protected].

Individuals volunteer and serve communities every day. Did you know that your business
can get involved too?
You can “Adopt a Route!” TCOA encourages local businesses to allow their employees to
deliver Meals on Wheels over their lunch hour. The business is responsible for making
sure that someone is covering the route on their scheduled day. It only takes one hour
between 10am-1pm, and can be done once per month or even every weekday.
In addition to allowing your employees to engage with and serve the community you do
business in, volunteering has several benefits*:
THE POWER OF VOLUNTEERISM

*Corporation for National & Community Service– The Health Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of Recent Research, May 2012
TCOA could not serve over 19,000 people annually without the help of volunteers. If you
are interested in applying, visit www.tcoa.org/volunteer or call 517-887-1377. In addition
to Meals on Wheels, several opportunities exist:
Help in the central kitchen or at a dining site
Help people understand Medicare & Medicaid through the Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP)
Plan or participate in TCOA special events
Serve on a committee or advisory board
Advocate by calling, writing, or emailing legislators on issues which affect older adults
Provide general administrative support
Deliver fresh produce and commodity boxes through the Senior Proxy Program
Facilitate a workshop to help older adults gain disease self-management skills
Volunteering INCREASES:
Physical Fitness
Mental Functionality
Sense of Purpose
Social Connection
Longevity
Volunteering REDUCES:
Depression
Chronic Pain
Stress
Risk of Disease
Social Isolation

TCOA: Celebrating 45 Years of Service in 2018
“Thank you for all your support during my mom’s illness – we
really appreciate your kindness!”
“Since I began receiving my Meals on Wheels, my daughter says that
my speech has improved and that I do not have that far-away look to
my eyes. I notice that I have more interest in my surroundings and
doing more activities. I have even started walking again. They say you
have to eat to lose weight. I am down 10 pounds and feel good.
Thanks to everyone at Meals on Wheels.”
“Successfully accomplishing [goals set in class,] I found my spirits
improved as I learned I could take control of my life.”

Rural Ingham MOW Client
Jen and Emma, Dining Site Volunteers
Our grandma used to come [to a dining site] every Tuesday before she died. She loved it, and looked forward to it every week. After she passed, we wanted to do something to honor her. We started coming on Tuesdays to serve and wash dishes...Both of our kids have learned so much from the grandmas and grandpas. We are grateful.
