About our Someone Special toolVirgin Money Giving’s Someone Special tool has been designed to help you support your fundraisers at a sensitive time in their own lives or the lives of their loved ones. It’s unique because it can be used by fundraisers who are in treatment or recovery themselves, or by fundraisers on behalf of their loved ones.
A Someone Special fundraising page can be used for three different types of fundraising:
> Fundraising in memory of a loved one.
> Fundraising through treatment – if the fundraiser or a loved one is undergoing medical treatment.
> Fundraising in recovery – as a celebration of recovery from illness or injury.
This workbook is designed to show you the types of Someone Special pages and how you can help your supporters set up their own fundraising.
You’ll also find a toolkit to help you talk about Someone Special with your fundraisers.

With a Someone Special fundraising page:> Your fundraisers can bring together supporters who
want to donate money in memory of someone who has passed away, or show support for someone at a difficult time in their life.
> Fundraisers who are in treatment or recovery themselves can set up their own Someone Special page.
> Fundraisers can update their Someone Special page and leave it open for as long as they like.
> Fundraisers can encourage others to do their own fundraising activities in support, by creating individual pages linked to the main Someone Special page.
> A Someone Special page will display the running total raised through individual donors and linked fundraising pages combined.

‘In memory’ fundraisingOur Someone Special tool can be used by your fundraisers to raise money in remembrance.
Someone Special offers a simple, sensitive way for people to fundraise in memory of a loved one, for the charities that helped them. Your fundraisers can honour their loved one’s courage, celebrate their memory, or even ask supporters to donate money instead of sending flowers.
Page personalisation Fundraisers can include their loved one’s name, birth date and date of passing on their Someone Special page, together with photographs and the story of their loved one’s life.
Your charity Your charity is featured prominently as part of the Someone Special page.
Donationsoverflowers An ‘in memory’ page allows people to pay their respects with a donation to charity, rather than flowers. Donors can leave personal messages with their donation on the donor community board.
Link pages Family and friends who want to fundraise in memory of a loved one can create a personal fundraising page for any event (i.e. the Marathon) and link it to the Someone Special ‘in memory’ page.
Running total The Someone Special page will display the running total raised through individual donors and any linked fundraising pages combined.
Keep it open ‘In memory’ pages can stay open as long as the fundraiser likes, so people can fundraise in memory of their loved one and continue to link to event fundraising pages.

Page personalisation Fundraisers can personalise their page with their story or the story of their loved one, together with photographs and updates.
Your charity Your charity is featured prominently as part of the Someone Special page.
Direct donations Family and friends can give directly
to the page, leaving messages of encouragement on the donor dashboard.
Link pages People who are supporting the person
having treatment by fundraising can link their personal fundraising page to their loved one’s Someone Special ‘through treatment’ page.
Running total The Someone Special page will display the running total raised through individual donors and any linked fundraising pages combined.
Keep it open ‘Through treatment’ pages can stay open as long as the fundraiser likes, and be updated as treatment progresses with photos, stories, and new event fundraising pages.
