Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of SES, I would like to welcome you all to SMi Group’s 15th annualGlobal MilSatCom conference & exhibition.

SES is happy to be lead sponsor at this foremost military satellite communicationconference and exhibition. I am also proud to have been Chairman of this eventfor the past 10 years and have seen it grow into an industry stalwart over theyears.

We are all aware that due to the global financial constraints the pressure is onGovernments to reduce expenditure. The defence budget is no exception and thechallenge for many Governments is how to manage the reduction in defencewhilst maximising their information superiority.

Our strategy, therefore as industry professionals, is to rise to this challenge andcontinue to develop innovative technologies, from software to satellites andthereby increase the attractiveness and usefulness of our products and services.

This conference is an ideal platform to hear about these ideas in a knowledgesharing environment involving decision makers, Government representatives, military and other leading international industry professionals.

Please join in the question and answer sessions, network with industry peers andlearn about new breakthroughs in this defence arena. But most of all, enjoyyourselves at this premier annual event in London.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely yours,

Gerard DonelanVice-President Governments and Institutions, SES

Conquering Interference – The Next Big SatCom Challenge

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP HOSTED BY COBHAM | 4TH NOVEMBER 2013

Workshop Overview

Satellite services are widely used by military commanders to providekey tactical communications capabilities to their forces anywhere inthe world. Satellite communication relies on detecting tiny signals ina fog of radio frequency “noise”. Interference, either unintended ordeliberate, is becoming a major threat to maintaining assured andreliable communications links. Bringing together operator, installerand equipment supplier perspectives, the workshop will look at themain sources of interference in satellite communications links andexplore why interference is becoming an ever increasing issue.Presenters from Cobham Technical Services, the GVF, the SatelliteInterference Reduction Group and Eutelsat will look at thechallenges posed by this important issue, identify potentialsolutions and describe what is being done within the satellitecommunity to ensure that robust satellite communications can besustained in more congested environment in the future.

Who Should Attend?

The workshop is aimed at those involved in the design, specification, procurement, installation or use of satcom systems. Delegates willgain a broad understanding of the challenges posed by interference, its origins and how to tackle it more effectively.
