In our April issue, we are shining the spotlight on Asia, the worlds powerhouse in home security and smart home manufacturing, with an emphasis on premium, diverse offerings from the region. In doing so, we have compiled a special section featuring exhibitors in the upcoming Smart Home International Conference and Exhibition 2015, which is set to take place in Taipei on April 28-30. Simply turn to Page 39 for our comprehensive

BUYERS GUIDE. What makes the event stand out is the entire supply chain of smart home to be presented on the showground, ranging from key components, protocols, software, IoT platforms, and connected devices to integrated solutions or kits. For international smart home professionals, this is definitely the ideal venue for your sourcing extravaganza! Organized and staged in Taiwan, the event provides an elaborate platform for international sourcing buyers to navigate hassle-free for quality suppliers offering high-value-added manufacturing. In retrospect, Taiwan makers have been learning to cooperate with the worlds leading high-tech brands on product research & development. In that process, creating the product together after multiple adjustments and break-in efforts is the valued asset Taiwan has acquired. And possessing such ability is the key to becoming a real technology service provider for international brands. We look forward to seeing great traction between makers and buyers in this LIVE Show. For those in search of home cameras, this issue is a must read. We are shedding some lights on the inclusion of sensors and hubs in home cameras, in which the all-in-one camera is fast becoming the new trendsetter. On Page 16, we took a close look at this iconic item, which the home automation industry has longed for somewhat affordable, easily installable, user-customizable solutions. This is exactly what Amegias Kevin Wu has his eyes on, the featured star of this issues cover story. Boasting 20 years of know-how in both consumer electronics and professional surveillance, Amegia is ready for IoT applications where the video is required. On further note, the Smart Home International Conference and Exhibition 2015 is certainly a sourcing paradise for camera buyers. More than 50 percent of exhibitors are expected to provide live demos of their latest network cameras ranging from economical type to all-in-one cameras.

launch of a 4-port video server AXIS-240 enlightened me all of a sudden," he recalled, "that it is possible to operate a camera via Internet but without a computer." With the launch of AXIS-240, Wu

soon caught a whiff of opportunity in the uncharted land of networked surveillance. To him, this gadget was actually the epitome

Equipped with the know-how in both consumer electronics and professional video surveillance, Kevin Wu, Taiwan's first entrepreneur having introduced network camera into the security arena, has successfully steered his four-year-old Amegia out of stagnation. Now, more open-minded and extremely flexible, Amegia is constantly keeping abreast of developments concerning the smart home, ready to be the eyes of, literally, "everything."

We had spent a year and a half to develop our DIY home cameras, making them as easy as possible for consumers to use. Only when your products become that simple to use will you ever get a chance to compete in the market of consumer electronics.

of the promising future of IP cameras. "After going through some financial reports, I wondered how big this market would become and why most people were not seeing it yet. I even smiled unconsciously in my sleep, dreaming of the growing revenue to be yielded afterwards!"As a man of action, Wu reacted ahead of his peers. He and his friends immediately

set their pace into the research of video server products. In 2000, Wu co-founded a video security company that provides both own-brand products and OEM/ODM services. It was a crucial milestone for Wu, marking his daring transition from a supplier of consumer electronics to that of professional security cameras. But it was not until 2008 when applications of IP cameras were acknowledged as

the future of video surveillance. Having relished the sweet taste of success for merely 2 to 3 years, Wu's company began to face series of challenges from formidable rivals. Amongst them, the rising presence of Chinese manufacturers posed the hugest blow.

From these valuable trials and errors, Wu realized that the key point for a company to keep its growing pace is the ability to adjust itself to different environments accordingly.

    12 mySMAhome.com March/April 2015

Undeterred, Wu quickly sought after a new playground. At the time, mobile applications were beginning to flourish and gradually changing the ways we live. It struck him that the prevalence of smartphones not only raised the acceptance of IP-related appliances, but they also steered the industry to cloud services even catering to a wide scope of home applications. These clues all indicated a brighter prospect for suppliers of consumer electronics who are involved in cloud services and the IoT.With strategies totally different

from that of other video surveillance suppliers, Wu is on his way back to consumer electronics market, especially to the most promising smart home territory. Once again, this realization reignited Wu's passion for taking

    15324P0579.010-014.indd 12 2015/3/25 11:50

  • initiatives. In 2009, after almost a decade of toiling away at IP surveillance, he established Amegia.

MulTifunCTiOnAl AnD EASy-TO-uSE It is a classic dilemma that you have to choose between a

professional product that is too complicated to be installed by yourself, or an easy-to-use one with limited functions. Since the very day Amegia embarked on its adventure to the IoT, Wu and his partners have been determined to solve the dilemma with their 20-year know-how in both consumer electronics and professional surveillance. In 2012, Amegia applied for "Technology Development Program"

offered by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. It was a research project on cloud surveillance that allowed users to control their cameras via computer or mobile phone. We had spent a year and a half to develop our DIY home

cameras, making them as easy as possible for consumers to use, said Wu. "For example, this product can directly connect to your mobile phone. You don't need any computer-operating skills or even bother inputting anything. The system will execute the configuration for you. Only when your products become that simple to use will you ever get a chance to compete in the market of consumer electronics.""As long as smart home is part of the smart city where IVA plays

a key role, IVA is surly a must which will be added into home cameras besides gateway function," said Wu. At present, Amegia will focus on the IVA optimizing PIR motion detection that helps reduce false alarms and minimize the size of recorded footage. Other IVA functions, such as people counting or missing-object detection, can also be included if there are requirements from clients who figure out the need for these functions is growing in the market.

For now, Amegia provides clients only with OEM/ODM services, and the major medium bridging end users' needs to Amegia's customization capability are telecoms and retailers.

    March/April 2015 mySMAhome.com 13

Amegia will launch later this year new camera models with embedded gateway

functions. "Last December we started from Bluetooth protocol," Wu said. "By

adding the gateway function into cameras, we guarantee users a cost-effective

way to control Bluetooth devices via the same video surveillance gadget." The

video-gateway product is scheduled for release in April. Products supporting Z-Wave and

ZigBee are still under development and will be available in the second half of 2015.

unDErSTAnDing yOur CuSTOMErSAmegia's strategy of providing

customers with multifunctional, cost-effective and easy-to-use DIY products is obviously market-driven. When asked how Amegia develops its products accurately re spond ing to the needs o f customers, Wu proudly explained, "Our core competence is exactly the answer to that question." Based on product-development

strategy with standardization on one end and localization in the other, traditional surveillance manufacturers usually locate t h em s e l v e s o n t h e s i d e o f standardization, according to Wu. "The customers for video surveillance suppliers are actually system integrators, who distribute these standardized products to end users in vertical markets. However, it is a completely different story for the consumer electronics of smart home solutions suppliers, said Wu. The consumer electronics is

horizontal, which means customers are actually end users. Suppliers have to listen to the consumer feedback and cater to the needs of certain local markets. Given that Wu and his team started their career as consumer electronics providers, there is no barrier for Amegia to shift its standpoint from standardization to localization. For now, Amegia provides clients

only with OEM/ODM services. Therefore, the major medium bridging end users ' needs to Amegia's customization capability are telecoms and retailers. These main clients of Amegia, also new players in the smart home market, have crucial user-experience information in their pockets. "Because they a re ab l e t o

    approach consumers via the last

mile, it is much easier for them to grasp what consumers really want in the DIY market," observed Wu. These clients may ask Amegia to integrate their camera modules into consumer electronics, such as intercoms that provide real-time video recording features. As long as these clients come across the threshold and reach the interior of homes, they have to provide end users with products that can communicate with other devices via different protocols. "For instance, Bluetooth connectivity and gateway

functions is on the priority list to be added upon our cameras, simply due to the explicit requests from a 4G telecom operator," said Wu. By helping clients satisfy the demands from end users step by step, Amegia will gradually cultivate its ability to be the solution provider for a variety of products in the IoT ecosystem.

OPEn uP fOr COllAbOrATiOnActually, we have learned a lot from past failures, Wu

remarked. Thanks to these experiences, Amegia is able to avoid committing similar mistakes. From these valuable trials and errors, Wu realized that the key point for a company to keep its growing pace is the ability to adjust itself to different environments accordingly. That is the reason why Amegia has to take a more flexible stance. And In order to seize more opportunities in the smart home and IoT where openness is the core essence, Amegia has to be more open-minded for all kinds of collaboration. It is unnecessary (or possible) for every manufacturer to

develop each item on its own. To create the best synergy for the whole industry, companies equipped with various specialties or know-hows in different verticals should develop partnerships and collaborate, Wu pointed out. As far as Amegia is concerned, we continue to focus on our expertise in video-related applications. At the same time, we have to be flexible enough to cooperate with third parties in every possible ways. Indeed, Amegia can act as a platform open for integration, helping other manufacturers enter the smart home and IoT market as soon as possible. The multifunctional home cameras they developed for

telecoms and retailers are the starting point for realizing their dream. The example outlines how Amegia adjust itself for applications where the services of surveillance are required. In the near future, our camera modules may be embedded into many electronic appliances, even on rolling shutters! Wu said with a broad smile. We are ready! the vigorous entrepreneur exclaimed.

Amegia has weathered through tough times and has accumulated enough experiences in the past four years. 2015 is the right time for this rising star to prevail, shining in the booming smart home market.

Being a part of the smart home industry, we should thank Dropcam for its exposure and popularity in the mass market. Retailers are happy that there is no shortage of similar devices being displayed on shelves and online stores. These cameras are designed for consumers to operate the camera as a standalone surveillance system without the need for separate recording hardware by utilizing cloud or edge storage.IHS forecasts over 11 million consumer

and DIY network cameras to be shipped worldwide this year. IHS Research senior

analyst Josh Woodhouse sees a greater proportion of cameras shipped offering smart home functionality with the potential to connect with third-party or similar branded smart home systems in the future. Smart home-capable cameras sold both separately and as part of a larger smart home package will be major drivers in the consumer video surveillance market. Cameras in the home are very much

lifestyle products that invoke consumers to regularly check-in at any detected change in environment, whether it is to check if the kids are at home from school, or if their pets are okay, Woodhouse said. The regular events detected by camera sensors or connections with other non-video devices mean higher user engagement with the camera. This can justify potentially lucrative cloud storage add-on fees, which makes Dropcam such an attractive buy for Googles Nest Labs. With smarter algorithms and enhanced hardware designs, network cameras

have evolved to become more intelligent and multifunctional, and to an extent that they can even function as home control hubs. For service providers, this new-type camera embodies a new market; for general users, it provides a new way of home monitoring with convenience in an affordable way.

The All-in-One PhenOmenOnCompiled by SMAhome, its been observed that the all-in-one feature has

become the latest design trend in home security cameras. An all-in-one home camera should meet four criteria:

    1. Motion detection and two-way communication are essential functions.

Camera: One for All All-in-One According to IHS Technology, over 11 million consumer and DIY network cameras will be shipped worldwide in 2015. User awareness and acceptances of home video monitoring is increasing dramatically for the past couples of years. The launch of smart home capable cameras is further changing the market rules. In this report, we explore the role of all-in-one cameras in the smart home, and its differentiators in the marketplace.

Cameras are critical in an automated home setup. Nothing tells you more information other than a camera. Russell Ure, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Icontrol Networks Canada

    2. Equipped with at least two to three functions, such as: Sound Detector, Temperature Sensor, Humidity Sensor, Ambient Light Detector, Air Quality Sensor, Vibration / Shock Sensor, Facial Recognition / detection, Geo-fencing, Automation Hub.

    3. No professional installation is required for the camera. The user can easily set up and install the camera by himself/herself.

    4. Users can view video feed via a smartphone or tablet. The active monitoring approach is a stark contrast to the closed circuit (CCTV)

analog camera and DVR systems available in many DIY stores. These systems are traditionally installed and left running until there is an event noticed by the user which requires a video review. Nevertheless, there will remain a large market for this type of equipment for more of a passive security conscious consumer, Woodhouse said. With the proliferation of standalone network cameras, the category has evolved beyond just security.

Even though the all-in-one camera is mostly set for online or offline retailers, dealers and

system integrators in the professional installation market have also shown a great interest.

The scenario can be contributed by the mass-market activity. As mass-market products become more affordable, easier to install and easier to use, they help propel awareness in the technology from a users point of view. Meanwhile, they push home-control vendors and installers to change their products and their ways

of doing business. Service providers are also

very interested in Piper because they can only

sell traditional products to 25 percent of the market, but there are other markets that wont buy from them

because they dont want monthly fees. We

are currently undergoing trials with service providers,

exclaimed Ure of Piper, adding that it markets primarily through web stores, retailers and home networks, such as Amazon, Best Buy and Target. In terms of service providers, Icontrol has that covered with ADT, and specif-ically ADT Pulse, which is available through Icontrol.

In Europe, the market is even bigger because the security systems there do not feature motion detection. Its market size encompasses millions of people, Ure said.

According to some system integrators, the all-in-one camera is the iconic item that the home automation industry has been longing for somewhat affordable, easily installable, and user-customizable solutions. For a professional installer, such product can shave 70 percent off installation time and the possible expenses usually required for experi-enced technicians.

Progressive Internet connections such as 4G and LTE with improved low-power consumption are two powerful characteristics that can push the popularity of all-in-one cameras at home. What 4G and battery power can achieve is the further evolution of a truly portable home monitoring system. Start-up companies such as Link-U and big names including Panasonic Nubo, Netgear Alro, and as such are all vying to be the first to offer portable home monitoring when shipments start later this year. Russell Ure, Executive Vice President

& General Manager, Icontrol Networks Canada, sees a 500 percent growth of Piper cameras spurt this year. The reason for believing such rise is because in North America, if you have an apartment, you cannot get a security system into an apartment because landowners wouldnt allow you to bring installers in there. There are no other solutions for people unless its a Do-It-Yourself security system. That is a huge opportunity in the US around 20 percent of the market is underserved.

eAsy TO seT UP by WiRelessIn many cases typically found in home

security cameras, the first (maybe the biggest) issue is installation. A network

camera often requires connecting wires or IP system configuration. Even for an Internet-savvy user, any disruption of the setting may undermine camera performance. MSIs PANOCAM is one of the first Wi-Fi cameras on the market that utilizes

data-over-voice technology to embody audio pairing. The user is only required to enter a WI-FI connection ID and password in PANOCAM APP. It automatically turns the data into sound for pairing. According to MSI, within one minute the initial pairing can be done.Since there is no simpler way to connect to a Wi-Fi network, users have to

choose between a fixed Wi-Fi home monitoring product, a fixed professional surveillance, or a mobile video recording product. Nubo by Panasonic is the first true mobile monitoring camera that delivers 4G connectivity. For a long time consumers have had to compromise on mobility and connectivity when it came

Whats more to mention is the intelligence powered by software in all-in-one cameras. Besides hardware differentiation, more value and innovation

come from software. Image intelligence that tells users whats going on and

its ability for customization based on specific needs are keys to drive the market, said Tien-Spalding of ArcSoft. According to him, software is currently the main highlight in home security cameras, adding that without software, theres basically no experience, and expectations of ease of use, convenience, or relevance are now taken for granted by the average consumers. Were excited to see that imaging intelligence is driving the future of the connected home.

Marcus of Amaryllo believes more intelligent experience is driven from stronger processing power. He thinks differ-entiation comes from intelligent design that makes itself different from competitors. Amaryllos award-winning

camera is equipped with a quad-core 1.6 GHz CPU, delivering strong computation power for multi-tasking, and value-added software features. Contrary to other similar cameras that take a passive approach, Marcus said its camera, which is more proactive, embeds action-based artificial intelligence. And also unlike other IP camera makers that use either 64 or 128-bit encryption, Amaryllo employs 256-bit encryption technology that requires stronger processing power.

The balance between hardware and software is key to winning. Cohen of Whithings said, great software must be backed by brilliant hardware in order to win. We released a cloud video recording feature that relies on a massive infrastructure at Amazon. One can access up to 30 days of continuous footing, right from their iPhone. This is a killer feature. However, this creates value because of the video sensor, infrared filter and great optics its all about balance.

to their surveillance needs, bound either by location or connectivity, said Tijmen Vos, CTO of Panasonic Cameramanager. Our vision is to deliver a product that

allows users the freedom and flexibility of choosing where the camera can be used and the confidence in knowing that the data created is securely transmitted and stored.

More than just securityThe beauty of an all-in-one camera

is that it provides a solution beyond video monitoring. Baby/elderly care and air quality monitoring are two popular applications to be included. Besides built-in microphone, speaker and motion detection as main features, the all-in-one home camera used for baby and elderly care can come with built-in sound, temperature, and light sensors. The camera can report any temperature, sound and control light changes. For those positioned in the better-life-quality market, the camera also features detection of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC), tracking indoor air pollution and can inform homeowners of abnormal indoor air quality.Three years ago, Withings hits the

market with its Smart Baby Monitor. Kevin Cohen, Product Manager, Withings indicated: Today, with the new Withings Home, we are addressing a wider market segment Home Monitoring. Withingss home features a 5-megapixel video

sensor, 125-degree wide viewing angle, and one of the first HD cameras featuring air quality sensors.Meanwhile, Sapidos IPJC2n can function as a home camera,

multimedia speaker, and wireless router. Unlike most cameras that rely on home routers to connect to the cloud, IPJC2n can link directly to the cloud by connecting to home routers like any as other camera. A home camera that offers multimedia experience is deemed one of the killer applications for users in the coming years. Consumers can have more available options when purchasing their home cameras, and not just taking security into consideration, said Sapido Chairman Winnie Lee.Costing only $99, Guardzilla is a triangular DIY security

camera with a slightly different approach on the market. Its pet immunity function keeps the device from triggering notifications when in contact with small animals in the home. An overwhelming number of American households lack home protection. Unlike competitors, Guardzilla generates a siren alarm and streams video in real-time. Additionally, the system can connect to more than one smartphone, allowing multiple home-dwellers to stay connected. Cameras should be feature rich and easy to use, said Ted Siebenman, CEO and President, Guardzilla.Ure of Piper believes the inclusion of sensors and hubs in home

cameras has become new trendsetters. If you look at Piper, it has everything inside it. You dont have to think about buying other sensors and as such because its all there the camera and hub all integrated into one device.

Differentiation MattersSpurred by an influx of camera makers on the market,

manufacturers are enhancing video quality, easy setup and killer features in order to remain competitive. Piper has the latest version by adding night-view feature. The

new launch is being redesigned with twice the resolution. It has a 180-degree field of view camera. When we talk about night vision, it tends to shine right in front and creates a bright ring around where you are looking. In a 180-degree field of view camera you need to have it diffused, so this newly designed plastic allows it to shine very gently, illuminating the entire night of view, Ure explained. The version also comes with the latest

Series 500 Z-Wave Controller to provide enhanced capability.Featuring weather resistant and sensor connectivity through an

integrated wireless radio, Panasonic Nubo is designed for both indoor and outdoor usage. Additional sensor controls enable the detection of human figures, enabling more tailored alerts and alarms for the user. Nubo also offers two-way communication, allowing the user to communicate through the camera when an alert is triggered. Video quality, motion and noise timeline on the smartphone, and

cloud video recording are must-haves. In the future, geo-fencing and person detection will definitely be killer features, said Cohen of Withings.Furthermore, StarVedias IC717Z supporting Z-Wave connectivity

can also work as a Z-Wave home gateway. Functioning more than just a video monitoring camera with built-in temperature and PIR sensors, it features Infrared thermometer and temperature alarm control. For added-value, the company adopts dual lens technology for a clearer day and night vision. Jeffrey Wu, President of StarVedia believes a real smart home products provide smart connectivity like what IFTTT offers instead of merely remotely control. Wu added, to stay competitive, its essential to offer differentiated products rather than focusing on price competition. ArcSoft, the company behind simplicam, believes imaging intelligence

is at the forefront of innovation in this space. Face detection and recognition capabilities can add value to the home security camera, making it stand out from other related devices. We believe what's really needed in the home camera market is imaging intelligence, said Caroline Tien-Spalding, Senior Director of Product Marketing, ArcSoft. For a long time, the home security camera market geared towards

techies. That's changing right now. The sophistication we've come to expect from smartphones is coming to the smart home market, and

Creator and founder of Piper, Russell Ure, also shared his viewpoints on the burgeoning smart home.

Q: What role do you think the camera plays in a smart home?

Cameras are critical in an automated home setup. Nothing tells you more information other than a camera. People have much more comfort with a camera now than it used to 10 years ago. The secret of success for the smart home right now is simplicity because consumers are not going to buy tons of parts. The smart home is going to evolve, but slowly. Most companies think it is going fast, but in reality it is not.

Q: Will Piper consider working with Apples HomeKit or Google Nest in the future?

Well, from a Piper point of view that is not our main priority. There are other divisions of Icontrol that are already working with Nest. If we try to give too many things for consumers to connect, it will only confuse them. Piper alone is enough. You can only move as fast as consumer education, which at the current pace its moving slowly.

Piper has a sensor platform that covers temperature, humidity, lights, sound and motion. Most cameras out there do motion detection through the camera image. But for Piper, it uses infrared which is much more reliable. Because security systems have been using infrared detection for over 20 years, we chose to implement infrared technology in our camera.

Q: Do you think the mobile phone plays a key role in the smart home?

Yes, the mobile phone is currently the main computer resource for most people. Its an important technology but its not going to be as important in a few years because there will be more and more automated interfaces in a smart home of the future.

Q: And what about wearable devices? In the next five years we will definitely see

more and more intelligence and anticipation around the smart home. I believe smart home devices will become more automated in the future to an extent that users wouldnt have to use a mobile phone or wearable to turn on the light for example. The way I see it is that they will continue to play a significant role during that transition.

where the intruders are coming from, even from behind. To establish network capacity at launch, Panasonic Nubo has moved

a step further by working closely with world-leading wireless carriers. Vodafone will be the first partner to provide Nubo with 4G Machine-to-Machine (M2M) network connectivity in Europe. The integration of camera, app, storage and data ensures a turnkey solution for users.According to IHS, concepts such as the FLIR FX, which combines a

portable home monitoring camera with both a dashboard and action camera, provides a glimpse into another potentially interesting direction for the category. Let us embrace a new era brought by all-in-one home cameras.

cameras are no exception. We believe new developments in imaging intelligence such as face recognition are at the forefront of the value-add package consumers now expect, she added.Nevertheless, Ure of Piper holds slightly back

on facial recognition. Right now we have video analytics in development. Facial recognition is only partially useful because what if it doesnt recognize a face coming through the door? It wouldnt be able to provide enough information to take action from a security point of view. Facial recognition can provide another piece of information but by itself its not the biggest selling feature, he commented. Amaryllo positions itself as the worlds pioneer

in home security robot market, and calls its award-winning camera iCamPRO a home security robot. Our robots can see, hear, seek, and track moving objects even in darkness and from behind, said C.T. Marcus, Yang. Its camera features patented auto-tracking technology with high sensitivity powered by three built-in motion sensorsone at the front and two on both sides. The robots are able to see intruders and turn themselves to face

It is not usually an easy task to assure home security with IP cameras for the complexity users often encounter during the installation and set-up routines. However, with the aid of StarVedias Plug & Play Cameras which are offered along with unique CAMID numbers and automatic online-configuration services, users can skip the frustrating processes and equip their homes with advanced video surveillance devices without much effort.

The Z-Wave IP Camera IC717ZThe Z-Wave IP Camera IC717z produces HD

footage at 720p@30fps, while the IR LED function and the duel-lens design guarantee its excellent performance in terms of light sensitivity. Moreover, this model is developed based on

StarVedias Smart Home Solution on a Camera (SOC). With a built-in Z-Wave controller, IC717z can act as a multifunctional smart home gateway which is able to control all these Z-Wave devices, including power plug, curtain, color bulb, door lock and detect smoke sensor, PIR sensor, glass-break sensor, door/window sensor, flood sensor, etc.Combined with two-way audio and a built-in

speaker, IC717z will push notifications to mobile phones and activate the speaker whenever an alarm is triggered. Users are able to use this device to monitor, hear, talk and communicate as well.IC717z also features a smar t Infrared

thermometer. This model can therefore be installed in certain place where temperature control is required. I t not only records temperature changes and displays them in a history chart but also gives alarm notification if it senses any drastic change in temperature.

    The all-In-One IP Camera IC731WThe All-in-One IC731w is a megapixel camera

which delivers sharp footage at 720p@30fps and provides PTZ functions (Pan:320; Tilt: 90). Like the IC717z model, IC731w is furnished with IR LED and duel-lens functions which help improve image quality when it is operated under low-lux conditions.

IC731w has embedded two-way audio with a built-in speaker, too. Via this gadget, users are able to remotely monitor their homes and speak at the same time. In order to preserve the crucial evidence, the recording will begin five

seconds before the alarm is triggered. Both IC717z and IC731w models support local storage by using Micro-SD cards (up to 64GB) and Dropbox storage. Via internet connection and StarVedia GSScCloud System, users are also able to check these recorded footages on their smartphone anytime and anywhere.

see another trend taking placesecondary purchase of easy DIY devices for the system. After the system is installed, home owners tend to add other devices to that platform afterwards from the retail. We launched a DIY brand called GoControl early this year for

smart home products in both retail and installer channels. It include solutions for connected lighting control, climate control, home security sensors and remote garage door management to span popular consumer smart home categories. The GoControl home security suite, available with starter kit and premium options will be available at the end of Q1 2015 in the North American retail market. Halligan said, GoControl is going to be the umbrella brand for

new devices that are not only DIY in some cases, but also devices that can be sold and installed by integrators to make a little more money. GoControl are DIY easy products that provide advantages to installers who want to add these devices to 2GIG and other systems easily. GoControl also provides the benefit to consumers who want to add these products after install without requiring a truck roll by the installer. For installers, time is money; they care about ease. The essential part of smart home is about how to guarantee every user a lifestyle he or she would love to have, and it requires a powerful system to develop a highly customized service. On the basis of the comprehensive product lines which range from hardware design and manufacturing, software to cloud services, Dexatek is capable of creating a BLE-based total solution precisely catering to a variety of demands from home users worldwide.

ConTrol Your Home FreelY via STandalone ConneCTionOne of the main features of Dexateks Smart

Home package is its ability to provide direct control over peripheral devices simply via a smartphone or tablet without the intervention of a gateway. This near-field "standalone" communication allows users to group any home devices together more freely. For instance, a novice user usually purchase

individual gadgets for certain simple purpose where an expensive gateway is unwelcomed. All he or she needs to do is connect these devices via the Bluetooth connection on a cell phone. In this way the user can easily communicate with these devices right through the smart phone. In a more complicated application where

a gateway often plays the control center and connects to a cloud server via Wi-Fi, however, this standalone connection will become a reliable backup in case of any unexpected network shutdown.

SCHedule a SmarTer liFeDexateks Smart Link System (SLS) is capable

of linking devices in a smarter way, which means devices can talk with each other and then users can make schedules for specific devices to interact under certain conditions. For example, the dehumidifier will be turned on spontaneously as soon as the weather sensor detects that the amount of moisture goes too high. After work, the air conditioner will be

activated when you are 200 meters close to home. All these automations are achieved according to the scenarios you preset via SLS.

SeCure Your PrivaCY Smart home makes life more convenient and comfortable, but at the

same time, more vulnerable to hackers. Dexateks Smart Home package helps relieve the fear against the invasion of privacy with its special Dynamic Authentication Security System (DASS), which turns your home into a fortress where home devices are exclusively under control of your family members. By adopting the 128 bit bank-level AES key exchange, DASS assures that every data exchange is completed via certain pin code and therefore block malicious attacks from the outside of your house.

leT uSerS deCide! A smart home should adapt itself to different lifestyles of various end

users. And Dexatek's full range of smart home products and powerful systems will help service providers, such as telcos, MSOs or system integrators, to realize the dream. With this smart home package, end users can decide their ways of life by customizing their smart homes themselves easily and securely.

a broad way, not for Germany only. We opt for open standards to partner with other parties in the ecosystemI think thats the way to go for Internet of Things. We are forming a joint venture to realize true interoperability from the cloud end. This joint venture is all about software, and responsible for back-end cloud services. Each system here transverses with its own server, and the servers are interconnected. User can interconnect with

overall systems by smartphones, tablet PCs or any mobile devices.

Data security is an important issue when talking about the cloud service, especially to Europeans who are sensitive to privacy issues. All of our devices provide M2M data security, and we have in-house software engineers for that. Regarding data privacy, our customer can decide which data

he wants to share with Bosch and which data he wants to keep private.

Regarding business models, we do it in a B2B relationship by offering products under Boschs or customers labels. We offer not just sensor modules, but also ready-to-use devices for consumers.

    Broadening Market Scope through

By Weili Lin Smart home is one of Boschs promising business domains. Bosch has been making aggressive movements toward smart homes by introducing smart home solutions for home convenience, efficiency and security in 2015. In partnership with ABB and Cisco, Bosch delivers a software-based open platform to open doors to smart homes in a broad way. Dr. Thorsten Mller, CEO of Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions talked about strategies, new product portfolios and observations on smart home markets.

One Single PlatformBoschs Smart Home Vision:

Q: Bosch is a leader in the commercial security industry. Please introduce your strategies and action plans toward the booming home market.

The largest barrier for adoption of smart home technology is the lack of interoperability among different products. There are lots of connectivity standards like Z-Wave, ZigBee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy and DECT. What customers really want is not the specific standard, but the interoperability among those devices. We are trying to offer a unified and open platform to achieve connected life. We closed the deal to acquire

the 50 percent equity stake in BSH Home Appliances Corporation (BSH) to make the company a 100 percent Bosch company since 2015. Its one of the cornerstones of the smart home technology for Bosch. With Home Connect technology and the app launched last year, home users can control and connect different branded home appliances through one app. They will benefit f rom a more conven ien t and comfortable lifestyle by managing everyday chores with ease. The other cornerstone is the joint

venture with ABB and CISCO. The joint venture goes international in

Q: Which application is the most promising?

From my perspective, it depends on the geographic area. Europe is one of the main drivers for smart home from my perspective. In Europe, energy saving, green technology, thats really what our German customers are asking for. The German government will shut off all nuclear power plants, and targets to have 80 percent of renewable energy by 2050. We offer a smartphone-controllable solution to combine the photovoltaic and heat pump system for home users to improve the energy efficiency and do energy management. But if you look at the North American market, the market

demands are different. From my perspective, security and convenience are two major drivers. In Asia, if you go to Beijing, air quality is a big issue. In addition, home entertainment is a big thing for the US and Asia markets. Thats also the reason why our company now opens offices both in

Chicago and Shanghai because we really want to have a global reach, and dont just think about Europe. We want to have a balanced geographical outreach in sales, marketing and production.

    Q. As a leading micro-electrochemical system (MEMS) supplier, do you see the development trend from the component side?

Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions was founded at the end of 2013. Our role is to provide connectivity components to the whole Bosch group to make our products interoperable. The sensor technology is our core. We leverage our competencies in electronics, sensor technology and software to enable new business models for global markets with innovative connected devices and tai lor-made solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). Moreover, the wireless networked smart sensors with embedded software are considered the enabler for the IoT. We believe Internet of Things (IoT) drives MEMS sensor proliferation after consumer electronics. For example, we launched one of

worlds first environmental sensors called BME680 combining pressure, humidity, temperature and indoor air quality sensing functions at the CES this year. The component is applied for indoor microclimate adjustment that can be a big market to watch.

Q: Bosch launched a Z-Wave home security system. Does Bosch support specific standards for home products?

We are open to every standard that our customers want. Therefore, our solutions support Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, ZigBee, BLE, GSM and LoRa, a new connectivity standard developed by Semtech. Though our smart home products support both wired and wireless standards, we opt for wireless one because its much easier for the retrofit installation. Home users are not building the house. Also, going wireless is a much easier way to connect things.
