219 01 18 15 CC Well, good to hear that.CC I'd like to talk for a few minutes about our sched-

ule passes for this evening. We've got your phonecalls currently set up and we delayed them a littlebit from what our original setup was. Currentlygot yours, Jack, set up for about 02:17, overCanary, if that's satisfactory. And Owen's setup at 02:55, at Guam.

PLT Sounds good to me.PLT Sounds good for O. too.CC Okay, very fine. I'm sure the gals are looking

219 01 19 05 PLT Okay, we don't have it ready, Bob.CC Okay. What I would recommend then is that that

Canary pass at 02:17 would be a good time, if AIcould give it to me then. That's plenty of time,I believe, such that maybe you can get it set up.The next pass coming up at Vanguard at 01:57 isstill scheduled to be a reed pass, if that's satis-factory.

PLT Yes, those are both fine.CC Okay; very good. We're still puzzled a little bit

about what went on with the EVA lights out there. And I was wondering if the Big 0 could tell us,when your Sun end lights were out, were - couldhe see whether the center work station lights wereon or not?

like to pass on to CDR that the condensate dumpon the holding tank is not required tonight, surehe'll be happy to hear that.

PLT The S055 guys might be interested to know that, -that on the ramp that I took off - l'm Just lookingat it now - the top part of that ramp didn't showany marks on it at all, so - after getting itoff and inside I looked at the underside of it.The ramp really works on both sides and underneaththere's a scar about - or a gouge about three-quarters of an inch long by a little over aneighth of an inch wide. It runs from the ramp,three-quarters of an inch back and it's allshiny silver; so apparently it was wearing inthere fairly good and could possibly have causedthe problem.

CC Okay, l'm sure they'll be pleased to hear that.Did you copy my comment about the condensateholding tank not being required to dump it tonight.

PLT No, I didn't hear that.CC Okay, if you'd pass that on to AI, l'd appreciateit.CC And, - is the CDR available? Or is he busy?PLT AI is listening, and for the record SOP 016 has

    a pressure of 6000.

CC Okay, well, since I've got you there, I.'ve acouple of things we can - we can do. CDR Actually, unless somebody changed it, they'reOFF right now.

SPT We assumed that was the only problem, Bob. Wehad all those lighting switches off.

CC Oh, okay, we were trying to figure out what theproblem was. Well, had - had - Did you check it

said don't bother the panel unless we give you aprocedure. I'ii turn th_n on right now - if youwant me to.

CC Why don't you. If you'd go to VARIABLE and giveus a LAMP TEST, we would appreciate it.

CDR Well, I went to VARIABLE and got no lights at allon any of them for STATUS.

CC Okay. Roger, but did you take the LAMP TESTselect below that and switch to STATUS?CDR Yes, now we've got everything. I hadn't turned

the variable up enough. It was full down. Answeris: they all work.

CC C_ay, we're going to - we're going to assume, Iguess, that that was the problem. Then, could youconfirm for us, down on your console powerdistribution, that you've got both circuit breakerson STATUS LIGHTING backup pulled?

panel 206 and do a REG ADJUST for us?CDR I'm right there, ready to do it.CC C_ay, if you've got samething handy, we'd kind of

like to mark the current position of those REGADJUST pots.

CDR Give me Just a second.CDR They are marked.CC Okay. Very good. What we wanted to do is to

turn them both down simultaneously and, lookingon PCG, TOTAL, if you would, decrease ADJUST 1 -or correction -PCG, TOTAL 1 by 3 amps and PCG,TOTAL 2 by 9 amps and do that simultaneously forus please. Just about 20 degrees counterclockwiseshould do it.

SPT I think we ought to have one for the ATM becauseI didn't _now when our day off is coming and sincewe're starting sort of full-scale ops tomorrow,I'd like to- at least to know, shortly thereafter,is it possible, what things we could use and whatwe c_nnot. Now, I do have tape over those twoitems you Just mentioned and I do understand thatyou do select the appropriate sync generator fromthe ground and perhaps Just leave it on. Is thatcorrect? And then we won't have any use for theswitch. But I think we had ought to have thatlist there so it doesn't rely on Just one man'smemory and all three of us will know about it.

    219 04 04 00 CC Roger.

CC Owen, we understand your request and we'll try toput something together that satisfies your request.SPT Okay. Thank you a lot, Bob.

CC Roger. And in answer to Al's earlier question onthe LCGs, we would like them stowed in Dog h2h, upin the dome 424, and they are planned to be reused.

CDR Didn't know that. Now let me get something straightabout this, if I can - the command module config-uration. The only two switches I've really changedwere the 02 heaters. I reversed them. That is,I put HEATER 1 to AUTO and _TER 2 to OFF. Theother four were already in that position. By thatposition, I mean the position you gave me.

219 Oh 05 l0 CC Okay, I guess - we're a little bit confused hereright now on - on the - We did not expect themto be in that position.

CDR Let me tell you the position they're in at themoment. 02 HEATER l, AUTO; 0 2 HEATER 2, OFF. NowI changed those so that that's how they are atthe moment, right Just like it ... Now the onesthat were always like this and still are like thisare: H2 HEATER l, OFF; H2 HEATER 2, AUTO; H-1FAN, OFF ; H-2 FAN AUTO.

CC Okay, that's what we read up to you and that'swhat we wanted. We'll try to look into the problemof why they were different than we - we thought -we - thought they were.

CDR I think you should look into it because we certainlydon't go around changing those heaters and fansbecause - you know, you're controlling the wholething. All I can imagine is they've been that waysince day 1. We Just never changed them and perhapssomebody sent a message or thought they did tellingus to change them and it never occurred.

    CC Okay. We'll - we'll look into that, A1.

219 04 06 17 CDR Okay. I don't have _ Systems Book - it would beinteresting to know what the quiescent configurationthat the Systems Checklist calls for. I bet itcalls for Just those four that - as they are now,so they been that way.

CC Roger, AI. Why don't you Just don't sweat thatand we'll - we'll look into it and see if - seeif we can explain it. We don't see any big problemwith it. And I could tsIk a little bit about theFlight Plan for tomorrow and our recommendationsfor modifications.

CDR Let - let me get it in my hand.CDR Go ahead.

    CDR Good suggestions.

CC Okay. And we - we know that Owen really wants toget into that ATM, so what we're recommending thereis deleting out that housekeeping period he's gotscheduled at around - oh, I guess it's about 14:15.And that won't give him a - the full hour catch-upbut it doesn't look like his postsleep activitiesare going to be too crowded and he can just go aheadand get on that ATM activation at the - the time wegot scheduled. And then if he's got any catchingup on his postsleep he can take it out of thathousekeeping time at 14:15.

219 04 08 17 CC Roger, A1. What I was Just saying was that we haveno housekeeping scheduled in that period and sincethe ATM activation and checkout has got to be tiedto sunrise, it's - it's required to be done at thattime or - it's either that or losing an ATM passand it - that's really your choice.

CDR Well, that means he has to make the pass at 13:15or whatever it says on his pad.

CC Yes, sir. That's correct.CDR He'll be there.

CC 0keydokey and we're about, going LOS here. CRO isgoing to be 04:35 and do you want a call?

219 12 07 53 CC Skylab, Houston. AOS for lh minutes at Canary.SPT Good morning, Bill.CC Good morning.CDR Say Bill, our teleprinter didn't work today. And

we went up there and looked at it and it looks likethe friction drive, the rubber - looks almost likeabout a 5-inch - no, no, no - 1-inch washer - itslipped off its little drive shaft. And we're upthere fixing it now. And so Just as soon as we getit fixed, you're going to have to send up most ofthe teleprinter messages that you sent up this morn-ing, because they kind of overlapped one another asthey printed - -

CC We copy that, AI.CDR - - tell you in a minute which one - which was the

of messages here for you.219 12 08 48 CDR Okay, go ahead. And then we'll work on the printer.

CC Okay. We understand that the cryo tank configurationis as follows: the H2 nnmber 1 HEATERS, OFF; H2n1_er 1 FANS, OFF; H 2 2 W_TERS, AUTO; H2 2 FANS,AUTO. And if this is the case, we want you toconfigure it as follows: H2 1 HEATERS, AUTO;H 2 1 FANS, AUTO; and H2 HEATERS and FANS, OFF.2

219 12 09 55 CDR Okay. I'll sure do that. In other words, you wantthe H2 1 HEATERS and FANS, AUTO, H2 2 HEATERS andFANS, OFF. Now there was this - a real funny lastnight because when y'all called up and asked me toconfigure them the way you said we were - should -that you just read first, that's the way they alreadywere. no, no - EECOM saying so. So somehow they must havetold us to do it and then - and then whoever did itdidn't log it or something - is all I can guess.

CC A1, the indication that we have is there may be awiring reversal and we're in the process of checkingit out.

219 12 i0 44 CDR That would be something wouldn't it. Okay, now I'mgoing to go up there and configure them right nowand then get back to work on the teleprinter, unlessyou have something else.

CC We need the DAS for a Y-2 gyro compensation.

CDR You've got the DA$, we hadn't bothered it.

219 12 ii i0 CC And A1, if you got any good teleprinter messages,we need to know the number of the last good one.

CC Copy.219 12 12 00 CDR And as a result of this teleprinter problem you're

either - I suspicion you'll want to think about send-ing up another spare with Jer. Even though we'renot using their spare, I don't know how long thisone will last. Now one thing we need to know. Thelittle rubber grommet about - I'm going to revisethe distance of it. It's about three-quarters ofan inch long and about three-eighths of an inch indiameter. It drives the paper roller - slipped tothe left as you view the paper roller. Now whatwe plan to do is look at it and move it back intoposition, but it may be that you'll want us to takeit off again and reverse it and then put it back onso that it'll hold tighter; I don't know. We'llJust put it in a temporary position here so it willwork, and you can think it over and we'll do whatyou want.

CC We copy that, and we'll get you an answer on it.

you can send the message. The rubber roller at thetop of it had slipped off and was binding againstthe case and tearing up the rubber - few rubber chipslaying around. But we squared it back in it again, and it looks like it's going to work all right.

CC Very good. We'll be sending a test message up.

219 12 19 18 CC And this test message is going to be an ATM schedule. However, discard this message. Do not use this ATMschedule that's coming up. It's simply for testpurpo ses.

CC Okay. Thanks for getting that teleprinter rightup. We'll be sending stuff to you right now.

CDR Okay. And it seems to me that the fundamentalproblem is going to be keeping this little rubbergrommet on the metal shaft that it's on. It movesto your - to the the left, to the viewer's left,as it prints out. I mean, it spins around as itprints out normally, but in this case, it movedto the left and engaged the frame of the case. And it sort of distended the left end of thegrommet, so that the grommet no longer is a perfectcylinder but rather a sort of - a cylinder witha flare on the left end as you view it. Now itseems to me maybe, we've got some sort of glue orsomething we might be able to put up here on itand then slide it back on, but we won't do it.We'll wait until we hear from you.

219 13 lh 2h PLT Okay. In placing his clip on his experiment, itall came off all right, but I thought he mightwant to know that the placement is as follows:When you're laying along the truss with your headtoward the command module, the one clip is aboutthree-eighths of an inch to the right of the testpattern. And the other clip is about three-fourthsto 1 inch to the left - to the left of the testpattern. I wasn't able to get that one right onthe edge of it, because of the little knot in thebracket that holds the barrel of the thing to-gether_ it wouldn't clip over that. So, I hadto move it right adjacent to it. And that putit three-eighths of an inch to the right.

chip A of building block i complete. Andlet me give you a little more informationabout it. On 82 Alfa I gave it both -both of the time exposures, and on 82Baker, the 1-minute exposure but not the 4-minute exposure. As far as your last com-ment about the time on H-alpha i begins todrift to the horizon light, I never did seeany drift on H-alpha i or 2 until the timeremaining counter had counted out and theH-alpha doors closed. So there was no ef-fect of any light into the fine Sun sensor.Looking at the white light coronagraph onseveral occasions, I did notice there is arather bright disk about one-half solarradius in diameter which drifts through thefield of view. It's not something ex-ternal, it is rather sharply in focus; it'slike a reflection from something. And itwill drift across, normally, around theperiphery of the white light coronagraphimage. And it's got me puzzled at thispoint. I don't know what sort of an arti-fact it is. But I'ii keep on the alert forit, and when it's possible, why maybe Ican give you a picture of it. SPT Okay. Can you see the H-alpha there?

    CC We're looking at it.

vent if possible beyond 15:h7. That's afterdump commence. Looking at the time line, that's probably no problem for you. Andprior to disconnect in the bypass, be sure toopen up on panel 202, the same circuitbreaker you closed there. That's TELEVISION,ATM VIDEO. And also on panel 202, TELEVISION,POWER AM circuit breaker, you can close thatto get us back in a nominal configuration.

PLT Okay. Then I get them all closed when we'refinished, rig ht?

CC That's right. And complete the VTR changeoutprocedure per the checklist.

    PLT Wilco.

    CC CDR, Houston.CDR Go.

219 15 18 56 CC Could you clarify what part of the teleprinteryou exchang ed?

CDR I had to tele - change the whole big boxbecause the drive wheel that failed was theblack one. It's part of that big box, asopposed to the little red one that's part ofthe little head. So that's why I mentioned thatwe changed the last one we got up here.

CC Okay. We understand that. Thank you.

CDR It's a shame to lose that big electronicsbox Just because of that little rubber wheel.

CC We'll work on the grommet.

SPT Just a minute. Let me get that throughconfirmation from them. I 'm not sure whatthey've all done. Okay. The answer is yes,Story.

CC Okay. And I got a couple of things for youhere, Owen. The test - the test dot on theX-ray image is different than the flightvehicle - than in the simulator. All you getis some random dots around the 12 o'clockposition of the CRT. And if the brightness isturned up at all, that will preclude youseeing those test dots.

219 16 Oh 35 SPT Oh. That's interesting. So I'll try thatagain. And then I was going to do my debriefingon the real time here on this pass instead of onchannel B. Go ahead with anything you got upfor us first.

do step 7. On the coalignment, I had toactually repeat that about three times. Thattook up the extra time. It turns out thatthe H-alpha image is slightly larger indiameter than the white light image on the XUVSLIT display, l'd say it's a couple ofarc seconds in dia - radius, about 4 arc-secondsin diameter larger on H-alpha, even accountingfor the double limb. The double limb isclearly apparent and I'm not talking about theouter limb. l'm talking about the inner limb. And so I have to shade it Just a little bitinside on the H-alpha i and 2 or H-alphaalignment to make it agree with the XUV SLITposition. And the following numbers are theones I got for the four-limb coalignmentstarting down the blocks that you will find inour pad. H-alpha I is plus 1002, plus 997plus i001, minus 893, minus 895. I skippedH-alpha l[sic]. 82B is minus 914 minus 915,plus 973, and the coalignment is still atup/down or is aligned 0832, very close towhat it was on mission i. Essentiallyidentical.
