To achieve our objectives, we adopt a six-pronged approach which comprises:

MarketingWe help to create greater awareness of our members’ products, services and solutions, thereby helping them to increase both mindshare and marketshare.

Sharing of business intelligenceWe provide members with insights into the latest market trends and developments, so that they are better positioned to capitalise on new business opportunities.

Education and developmentWe work with our members to enhance their knowledge base and develop their organisational capabilities.

Networking and business opportunitiesWe provide networking opportunities for our members, paving the way for them to collaborate and establish new partnerships.

InternationalisationWe help open doors for our members to venture into regional and international markets.

RepresentationWe provide leadership and give a voice to the infocomm industry so that our members’ views may be heard at the national and international level.

Mission &Strategy

SiTF’s mission is to serve as the voice of the Singapore infocomm industry and to deliver value by providing our members with opportunities to strengthen their capabilities, increase their market presence and extend their business reach.

half of the companies expecting growth of between 5 and 20 per cent.

However, recruiting and retaining talent remained one of the top business concerns facing the respondents. In light of this, SiTF has voiced its support for the Government’s Budget 2010 measures to boost the workforce with training and innovation Investments. We have also urged the Government to continue to press ahead with programmes that encourage market creation, such as investing in ICT infrastructure and further supporting companies in pursuing new technologies.

On our part, SiTF has been ramping up efforts in market creation in order to give our members a head start in the revitalised economy. As part of Project Optimus, which is aimed at helping industries to harness infocomm technologies to boost productivity and enhance their business performance, we have introduced an online tool called MatchiT to match businesses’ IT needs with relevant solution providers in a timely and efficient manner.

Our Infocomm Singapore Centres (ISCs) in

SiTF plays an important role within the Singapore infocomm arena as a voice of the industry and as a platform for

market creation and promoting innovation. In the past year, as the global economy lurched forward on an uneven trajectory, we have continued to focus on these three areas in order to steer a steady course for the local infocomm industry and to reinforce the position of ICT as a strategic pillar of the Singapore economy.

To capture the sentiments of the infocomm industry in order to better represent its views, we conducted a survey in February 2010 to find out the 2010 business outlook of the Singapore ICT industry. The study, which 100 business leaders of the ICT industry of multinational companies (MNCs) and infocomm Local Enterprises (iLEs) responded to, found that the local ICT industry remained cautiously optimistic

About 82 per cent of respondents expected their businesses to grow in the 12 months following the survey as compared to only 60 per cent in October 2008, with more than

Shanghai and Hangzhou have also been active in promoting business-matching events and initiatives. In September 2009, ISC organised the participation of a Singapore delegation at the 2009 Hangzhou Electronics & Information Fair and in April 2010, it led a Singapore delegation to Chengdu and Chongqing to explore business opportunities and partnerships.

To promote innovation, the SiTF Mentorship Programme (SMP), which was launched in 2008, continued to provide opportunities for individuals or start-ups to embark on research and development and to develop Proof of Concept for innovative ideas in the digital media arena.

We are pleased to announce that more than 14 projects have been supported under SMP to date, backed by industry drivers such as Nokia and SingTel and with the support of the Media Development Authority’s Interactive Digital Media R&D Programme Office.

In 2009, we also received a record 117 nominations for the SiTF Awards, which give recognition to innovative products and services developed in Singapore. The number of entries received was a big increase over the 71 received in 2008. The SiTF Award winners also did us proud at the annual Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance Awards in Melbourne, where they emerged top in three categories and received three other Merit Awards.

As we go forward, it is important that SiTF continues to evolve to ensure that we remain relevant in the face of the rapid changes that characterise our industry.

Reflecting emerging industry trends and concerns, we have formed a Green IT Pro-tem Chapter to raise awareness regarding the adoption of environmentally-conscious best practices and to spearhead and drive green

efforts. We have also renamed the Service-Oriented Architecture Chapter as the Cloud Computing Chapter in line with the evolution of this vibrant sector of the IT industry.

SiTF will continue to scan the business technology landscape for emerging opportunities and seek inputs from our members on how best to respond to them.

The fact that we have successfully navigated the recent economic turmoil is thanks in no small part to all the stakeholders involved. For this, I would like to express my appreciation to Council Members for lending their insights and expertise, to members for their invaluable support and not least of all to the Secretariat for their continued efforts in keeping up the good work of SiTF.

On behalf of the SiTF Council, I assure you that we will continue to put in our best in leading the infocomm industry in the quest to increase both mindshare and marketshare in Singapore and beyond.

www.sitf.org.sg Annual Report 2009 | 2010

2009/2010 was a bumpy year as we continued to grapple with economic volatility in the aftermath of the global

recession. As we rode out the storm, we were fortunate to have the staunch backing of our members, councillors, government agencies and strategic partners who continued to dedicate time and energy to sharing their ideas and expertise and to supporting our activities. To all of you, I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation.

To support SiTF’s strategic thrust of market creation, we launched Project Optimus in mid-2009 to assist different industries in the adoption of ICT. To enhance its effectiveness, we introduced a new online tool, MatchiT, which enables potential and existing ICT end users to tap on our members’ expertise and solutions as they search for the best ICT solution to meet their needs.

SiTF also intensified its efforts to create networking platforms for our members to seek opportunities for growth. A high-profile event which made its debut in 2009 was the IX Executive Series – UPClose Connections – billed as a power series for the business elite.

Working behind the scenes to continuously refresh and update the initiatives and to ensure their success is a very special group of

people – my team in the Secretariat – who have been unflagging in their efforts despite the challenging conditions of the past year. I would like to say a special “thank you” for the efforts they have put in and for accepting a salary freeze as we weathered a difficult year together.

On a more upbeat note, 2009 presented us with the opportunity to leverage government incentive schemes for staff upgrading, such as the Secretariat Training Programme for LEAD associations. We also seized the opportunity to re-examine our mission and goals and to crystallize the 4E-T core values of the SiTF Secretariat, which are: Ethics, Envision, Energy, Execution and Teamwork.

Together, these values reinforce SiTF’s commitment to be the voice of the industry, to help the industry in market creation and to promote innovations and capabilities, putting us in a stronger position to take on the challenges that lie ahead.

members of the industry was explored. This effort culminated in a Stevedore Net call for proposal. SiTF member Y3 Technologies Pte Ltd came up with the winning proposal. The call for proposal resulted in savings of over 90 per cent in project costs for the industry.

International Furniture Fair Singapore Pte Ltd International Furniture Fair Singapore Pte Ltd (IFFS) is an international events manager specialising in the furniture trade. IFFS was interested in acquiring a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution and approached SiTF for a recommendation in February 2010. SiTF proactively conducted a high level requirements gathering and qualification exercise before disseminating a call for proposal to its members. The pre-sales effort by SiTF help shortened the sales cycle. SiTF member, IBIZ was eventually selected by IFFS as its preferred CRM partner.

Hidden Resources Seminar for NaTaS Members“Hidden Resources – An Inaugural Infocomm Technology Seminar for NATAS Members” was co-organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS), with the support of IDA and SiTF. The event, which was held on 4 May 2010 at STB’s premises and attracted about 70 NATAS travel agents, was aimed at promoting e-commerce to the travel industry. The focus of the seminar was to bring travel agencies online as customers were increasingly frequenting cyberspace. SiTF member and co-founder of Aeris Click Inc, Mr Chris Ho, gave an overview of e-commerce to the agencies that attended the event.

The event also provided the opportunity for organisers to learn through focus group sessions about the current gaps in IT adoption among the travel agencies. This has helped in identifying solutions that are suitable for an IT fair for the travel industry.
