Bulb-out : a traffic calming measure, intended to slow the speed of traffic and increase driver awareness, particularly in built-up and residential neighborhoods. They also allow pedestrians and vehicle drivers to see each other when vehicles parked in a parking lane would otherwise block visibility.

Catch basin: helps take surface water off the roads and transfer it into storm drains. It usually has a grate or curb inlet which help prevents large objects from entering, it contain a sump to capture solids and prevent sewer blockage

Curb : is the edge where a raised pavement/sidewalk/footpath meets an unraised street or other roadway. Curbs guide water, into storm drains so that it doesn’t gather on road also keeps vehicles on the road .

ROOSEVELT AVEMASS PARKCurb Cut Ramp: slope from sidewalk to roadway

placed at street intersections. Used to ease passage to the street for pedestrians bicycles, strollers, carts, and physically disabled people. Curb cut ramps blend smoothly down from a sidewalk to a street, rather than abruptly ending with a curb and dropping

roughly 4–6 inches.

Drip Line of Tree: imaginary line on the soil around a tree that mirrors the circumference of the branches above. The feeder roots of a tree usually extend to or beyond this line and receive water that drips off the canopy above.

Drop Curb:A type of concrete traffic curbing that allows vehicles to cross over. As opposed to curb that is not designed to be driven over.

Dry Well / Leaching Pool : underground structure that, temporarily stores and infiltrates storm water runoff . Maybe either an excavated pit with uniformly graded stone wrapped in geotextile or prefabricated storage chamber or pipe segment.

Geotextile Fabric: permeable fabrics which when used in association with soil, have the ability to separate , filter, reinforce, protect or drain. Placed at the tension surface to strengthen the soil. Comes in three basic forms : woven, needle punched, or hear bonded; typically made from polypropylene or polyester.
