We are off to a good start for this school year with HL and Fundraising on the way. So far, Direct Appeal is halfway to our target, Movie Night net double expectations, HL and Purdy's on target, and both likely to exceed expectations. Thanks to Anita C, Anita P and Karen for the lead on these efforts.

Terry, a K-Parent's restaurant workplace held a fundraiser on our behalf. Portion of pizza, beer and bowling game proceeds is being contributed to Laurier PAC. This has not been included in the report as the session was held this Saturday and we don't have numbers yet; Terry expected around $1,000-$1,200.

As of October, our net income is $4,090 and cash balance is $39,000. Our cash balance will draw down to $35,200 once outstanding cheques have cleared. Furthermore, once our committed Hot Lunch Vendors for the term and EarthBites are paid, our balance will draw down to $14,400.

Our revenue and costs are on track this term and if we maintain this momentum, we should reach year's break even target.

5) Hot Lunch Update (Karen Lidhar and Anita C.) We have 152 orders now and a few field trip cancellations so the numbers can’t be worked

backwards. Gross sales are around $21,000.00.

6) Strings Update (Anita C.) Below are the options to organize the strings program for this year

i. Pay room rental - $600 for only 17 sessions, instructors have set limit to a max of 15 per class

ii. PAC buys liability insurance – quote to be followed iii. Hand over entire program to Community School Team (CST)

Anita will follow up

7) Organization of Fall Events Past events:

o Meet the Teacher Family Potluck September 20 – well attended Upcoming Events:

o Friendship List: Thank you Miranda for compiling the info o Parent and Social Outreach (SOLO’s, Selena Non, Leaning and the Brain) o Movie Night: Wednesday Oct 24, Hotel Transylvania 3, which will start at 6pm and finish at

around 7:30pm o Winter Craft Sale: Wednesday Nov 28 from 3pm to 6pm

Fundraising: o Purdy’s: Online order by Nov 19, pick up at Craft Fair on Nov 28, volunteers to pack (25%

profit goes to school) o Direct Appeal: On now, however, VSB no longer offers tax receipts – Armin will meet with

the finance colleague and will talk about the VSB receipts o T-shirts – Black and Blue colour

8) Reiderman Residence Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Meeting time changed to 5pm which is not convenient for people to attend. The Residence received five police calls so far. Should anyone have any concerns, please let

the PAC know.

(https://www.sogieducation.org/) on Oct 25, 2018

(Meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm) Next Meeting The next PAC will be held on Tuesday November 20, 2018 @ 6:30pm 2019 PAC meeting dates: January 15; February 19; March 12; April 16 and May 21 (AGM)

In Preparation for Halloween October 31st

Wednesday, October 31st is our fun Halloween day at Laurier, and many of our students are looking forward to the related activities in their classrooms and school‐wide. Our staff members are working hard to make this day a special one for our students, organizing educational and fun activities.

This is also a special time of the year with Halloween followed by Remembrance Day, and is a time to pay much attention to our most vulnerable children, and the fact that Halloween may tend to draw out undesirable behavior. Please let us know in advance if we can be of any support and assistance and/or if you notice anything unusual.  Student Halloween Costume Expectations  In an effort to enjoy and celebrate Halloween at Laurier appropriately and respectfully, please use the following guidelines when helping your child(ren) selecting a costume: 1. Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature, or employ questionable props are not permitted.  2. Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted. Fake weapons are not allowed.  3. Costumes that could be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage, or religion are not permitted.  4. Costumes should not hinder student ability to participate in classes, including P.E. Costumes may not disrupt or impede traffic, or present issues of safety in the hallway. No masks in school.  Talking points for Parents to assist in this teachable moment:

Remind your child(ren) of their audience in the building (students, teachers, parents, community members).   This is a school—what may be appropriate in pop culture or the media may not be appropriate for a place of

learning.   We are a community, and we want students to think about how their costume choice may impact others within

this community.

Safety recommendations when going out trick‐or‐treating:

Wear costumes that are short enough so that you do not trip.                                       Decorate costumes with reflective tape.                                                                                   Shoes should fit well so you do not fall.                                                                               Costumes should be “flame resistant.”                                                                                  When you go out, carry a glow stick or flashlight with new batteries.                                           It can be hard to see out of a mask, so use makeup or face paint instead.                                    Trick or treat in groups with a trusted adult – It’s safer and more fun.                                       Carry a cellular phone with you, if possible.                                                                                    Visit only houses with the lights on.                                                                                              Don’t eat any treats unless they are checked by a parent, or the adult looking after you.   Always remember to keep yourself safe.

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween!  Thank you for taking the time to review these guidelines with your children.
