2014-2015 Lansdowne Elementary School Improvement Plan Report

Lansdowne Elementary ProfileThis narrative should include a description of student and staff demographics, recent achievement(s), and staff

qualifications.

Lansdowne Elementary School is located in the southeastern section of Charlotte, North Carolina. The school was built in 1959 and is nestled among the Lansdowne neighborhood. It receives strong support from parents, various community and business partnerships, churches, and volunteer groups. The school houses a diverse population of approximately 640 students in grades K-5. The student body also includes three classes of Self-contained Exceptional Children in need of social, emotional, and behavioral support. Currently the student body consists of a diverse group of students from 22 different countries. About 48% of the Lansdowne student population qualifies for the Federal free and/or reduced lunch program (economically disadvantaged). About two-thirds of the students attend Lansdowne as their home school. The school houses a partial magnet for International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. This program draws students from other areas of Charlotte; however, all students participate in the PYP. This program provides a foundation for the continuation of the IB Program in the middle and high school levels. The instructional staff includes 50 certified teachers. Of the 50 certified teachers, 52 percent have earned a Master’s or Advanced degree. 85% of the staff has been teaching for more than 3 years.
