Title IX training from CMS to take place

Some time ago, an announcement was made that all schools would take part in Title IX training on recognizing and avoiding sexual harassment (based for the most part on gender). After several revisions, a final set of information was released to us this week and we are required to conduct the training before June 9 for all students. Teachers have initial training and will be facilitating the activities in second block classes on Tuesday, 5/30 school-wide. Part of this process allows parents to opt out if they do not wish to have their students take part in the training. An electronic version of that letter, which must be signed and returned to the second block B day teacher no later than May 26 (next Thursday), will be sent out along with a message like this one, so that you can access it if you wish to make that request. We will attach the form to that message electronically but it will also be available to pick up in hard copy in the front office if you prefer. It is the intention of the district to provide this training to all grade levels with age appropriate materials each year across CMS going forward.

Parents and Alumni – Consider volunteering for the South Meck Foundation for the ‘17-18

School Year!!

The Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit that was created 2 years ago. Our primary mission is to sustain academic excellence for our students by supporting our teachers in their educational endeavors. We were thrilled to provide 10 teachers with grants this spring to bring innovational tools to their classrooms. However, the Foundation cannot continue to exist without our volunteers! For next year, we seek those interested in chairing a committee, those who enjoy being “worker bees” on a committee and all in between! We are also seeking a treasurer, someone with accounting experience. Please email Kym Furney at [email protected] to let me know how you would like to help!

Dear Parent/Guardian, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools will be administering the North Carolina End of Course and NC Final Exams June 5-8, 2017. Make up exams will be given on June 9, 2017. EOC and Accommodation groups are required to have a proctor. However, due to the large number of proctors needed to administer the NC Final Exams, CMS has been given permission to apply for proctor flexibility. Several test sessions will have an assigned test administrator (not their teacher of record) who will remain with the class for the duration of the exam. This will ensure ethical testing practices for all state exams. We want to make you aware of this situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our testing coordinator, Elaine Miller at [email protected] Thank you for your continued support of South Mecklenburg High School. Maureen Furr, Principal South Mecklenburg High School

Attention Rising Seniors – Class of 2018

If you are interested in early release due to employment or attending CPCC classes next year, forms are now available in the front office. All forms must be completed in their entirety and returned Ms. Velasquez, the school registrar, in the main office. Please understand that this is a privilege and can be revoked at the school’s discretion. Early release does not guarantee student parking on campus. Students requesting on campus parking must still meet the guidelines for receiving a parking permit and apply for a permit in the timeframe required. This process is for 1st AND 2nd semester next school year. Again, early release forms will not be considered for next school year after 2:15 on Friday, June 2nd.

Seniors, an instructional page has been added into South Meck’s Naviance Family Connection Page under DOCUMENTS regarding reporting admission decisions and final tran-scripts. PLEASE follow these directions and let your counselor know if you have any questions! If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, you may be eligible for fee waivers to take these tests. Contact Elaine Miller at 980/343-3600 or [email protected] for more information.
