Dear Parents,
The success of our school is due to the strong support of our families and community. The Fine Arts Network (FAN) has been a big supporter of our school. FAN parents recently purchased a baby grand piano for our music program. Having a baby grand at SCMS will completely change the sound of our live concerts. The baby grand will be used for chorus, orchestra, and band concerts as well as other events in the school. The professional sound that is offered by a baby grand piano will match the high quality performances that are displayed by our students in every concert. Thank you, FAN.
This has been a banner year for South Charlotte Middle School with student and staff successes. Our Battle of the Books team beat 20 schools to win the district competition on Monday and will travel to the regional competition in two weeks. Our honors chorus traveled to Wingate on Tuesday and
received stellar ratings: 97, 98 and 99 - nearly perfect scores. Our spring sports are having great seasons: baseball (3-2), track (3-0 boys; 2-1 girls), soccer (4-1 boys and girls). It is not just our
students who are being recognized for their success. Ms. Meagan Barger was named a MeckED Teacher of Excellence. She will be honored at a dinner and ceremony in May. Ms. Kimberly Ivey was named Teacher Assistant of the Year for the southeast and southwest learning communities. It truly is an honor for me to work with such outstanding students and teachers.
Best,
Lisa Bailes, Principal

NJHS Interest Meeting and Application Process
Friday during Academic Enrichment there was an interest meeting for any 6th or 7th grader
interested in joining South Charlotte's chapter of National Junior Honor Society for next year.
Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA, have leadership and service experiences, and be a
student and citizen of good character. At this meeting, current NJHS officers discussed their
experiences with the organization, and the advisers, Ms. Bernier and Ms. Cummins, discussed
the application process, requirements, and timeline. An additional meeting will be held next
Friday to pick up applications and ask additional questions. If your student would benefit from
this opportunity, and they missed the meeting, please have them email
[email protected] to obtain the information they need before next Friday's
meeting. Only eligible students will be given applications. They need to bring a copy of their
3rd quarter report card (or a print out from PowerSchool) showing they have met the
cumulative 3.0 GPA requirement in order to receive an application.
We are so excited to have Mrs. Whitney Matthews
back. She will resume her role as the 6th grade
counselor. She is happy to be back and looks
forward to working with all of her students. We
missed her! Welcome back Mrs. Matthews.
CMS Champions
Our South Charlotte Battle of the Books team competed in the CMS championship on Monday at Alexander
Graham Middle School. South Charlotte took on Bradley and
Highland Creek who were both zone winners. After nine rounds, South Charlotte outscored the closest opponent by 47 points.
During the quiz bowl type competition, students work in teams of six to answer trivia questions about the 27 books selected by the North Carolina School Library Media Association. Each question must be answered with the complete title and author of the book in only 20 seconds. Obviously these kids love to read and they work very well as a team. We're so proud of them!
The team will now travel to Union County on April 8th to compete in Region 6 against eight other county winners.
Team members are: Spencer Abrams, Kellyn Arnold, Anne Eilers, Katie Eilers, Lauren Gluck, Aniela Haines, Dave Hite, Sarah Kirkland, Charlie Kuhlman, Aspen Nelson, Elizabeth Payet, Sara Schubert, Kira Sheladia, Devere Shelmandine, Yls Virkler, and Angelina Yan.
Honors Drama will be performing at the North Carolina
Theater Conference Middle School Play Festival this Saturday,
March 30th at Blumenthal Performing Arts: Spirit Square.
They will be presenting a one-act play, "How I Got That Part", a
comedy about the challenges and fears of auditioning, being
cast in a show, and performing in front of an audience. These
seventh and eighth grade students have met at 7:00 am on
multiple mornings a week since January to prepare for this
production. They will compete with eight other local schools,
both public and private. We wish them luck. Break a leg!

Spring Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 during first block only. Flyers will be
going home next week to remind you to mark your calendars. Only the students who order
pictures on Picture Day will have their photo taken. This process is different from the Fall
Picture Day schedule where every student is photographed. If you have any questions,
please contact Mrs. Seaman at [email protected]
Impact Sports Performance Work out
Head Football Coach Brad Bowles and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, Wes Ward
These workout sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday Nights from 6:30-8:00pm at Provi-
dence High School on the upper Practice Fields. The focus of our training will help prepare the young
athlete for the next level of competition as well as help them be able to learn the fundamental movements
of high performing high school athletes.
The workouts will begin April 25th and will finish May 30th, giving the athlete a total of 10
workouts. We are charging $125 for 10 workouts. We believe that through our personalized training
and experience your young student athlete will not only see improvements physically, but will also grow
mentally, which will prepare them to become elite competitors in the future. While this personalized
small group training is offered to aid in transition to the large group football setting, please note that it is
not required in order to be a participant in the Providence High School football program, nor will lack of
participation negatively affect your athlete’s position on the team. We believe our training can benefit
any and all athletes.
Below, we have attached a PAYPAL link for you to sign up. If you do not have a PAYPAL account you can
sign up now and pay FULL Cash payments on APRIL 25TH. The cost for ISP Bridge Training is $125 and

Online School Payments (OSP) - CMS has provided us with the opportunity to accept
payments for school events on-line. It is much like Athletics Pay-to-Play, comes with a
fee (4%), and allows you to pay at your convenience. If you choose to pay on-line, it also
relieves our teachers from the time taken to do the paperwork and to receipt and turn in
money or checks. Teachers will continue to take cash and checks as they always have.
Just sign in to: osp.osmsinc.com/CMS
Choose your student’s event and homeroom teacher, and make payment.
The teacher and Financial Secretary are sent advisements of your payment.
We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Through the year, events will be
added including field trips, textbooks, fees, and other payments.
