LENGTH OF TIME: 20 minutes to make one hat. PRODCEDURE: 12 th Century – Lady’s hat 1) Get 24”x 3” oaktag strip. 2) Cover with construction paper or fabric 3) Trim with braid or lace. 4) Place a thin scarf (36” long) in hat as illustrated. Mid-15 th Century – Lady’s hat 1) Get 12”x 24” construction paper. 2) Roll in cone shape. 3) Staple. 4) Affix with thin fabric streamers, rickrack, and lace.

1) Get 24”x 3” oaktag strip. 2) Cover with construction paper or fabric 3) Trim with braid or lace. 4) Place a thin scarf (36” long)

in hat as illustrated.

Mid-15th Century – Lady’s hat

1) Get 12”x 24” construction paper. 2) Roll in cone shape. 3) Staple. 4) Affix with thin fabric streamers,

rickrack, and lace.

1) Get 24”x 5” oaktag strip. 2) Taper strip to 2” width in back. 3) Staple. Cover with gold

metallic paper. 4) Affix jewels from old

jewelry or metallic paper. Mid-14th Century – Yeoman’s Hat

1) Get 24”x 24” oaktag strip and fold in half.

2) Draw pattern. 3) Fold up brim. 4) Tape the front together. 5) Glue a different color of

construction paper on the brim. Late 15th Century – Boy’s Hat

1) Get 24”x 2” oaktag strip. 2) Staple. Cover and glue

construction paper or thin fabric on it.
