APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSAPPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS

GeneralSika® Metal Sheet FBV are supplied in 15 m rolls.▪The sheets have a transparent FBV-coating on oneside which is shielded by a protective film divided inat the centre. The film must be removed before theindividual concrete pours.

Installation is not limited by the temperature. Just forjointing, the coating have to be warmed up to +5°C.Undulations of the profile do not affect the function-al performance of the Sika® Metal Sheet FBV (minim-um clearance from the reinforcement 3 cm).

InstallationPlace the Sika® Metal Sheet FBV in the reinforce-ment. Install the coated side on the side facing thewater.

Bend to form angles and curves.▪Remove the protective film strip at the bottom be-fore fixing the sheet (can also be done after fixing –but always before concreting the base slab).

Position the Sika® Metal Sheet FBV in the centre ofthe construction joint – with the coated side to theside facing the water. The minimum clearance fromstarter bars should be 3 cm.

Fix the Sika® Metal Sheet FBV with mounting brack-ets at 50 cm centres. This is done by attaching withtie wire to the top reinforcement layer. In cornerareas the clearance of the fixings from the cornershould be 20 cm max. Fit the fixing clamps so thatthe shorter, curved leg is on the coated side.

Lap the joints by 10 cm. Remove the protective filmfrom the joint area, press the ends together firmlyand secure with a joint clamp or mounting bracket.Connections for vertical joints (wall/wall) are notgenerally formed until immediately before reinfor-cing or striking the walls (see description under “Con-nections”).

Concreting the base slabBefore concreting, check once again that the sheet iscontinuously bonded and stable and that the bottomprotective strip has been removed.

Approximately half of the metalsheet – but always atleast 3 cm – should be integrated in the concreteslab.

If the sheet slips during the concreting operation, itshould be manipulated back to the correct positionmanually and straight after finishing pouring the con-crete.

Concreting the wallsSnip off the mounting brackets at the top of thesheet with bolt cutters. This removes the shortenedclamp leg, which makes it easier to pull off the pro-tective strip at the top and allows the reactive con-tact surface of the sheet to be effective over the fullsurface.

Pull off the strip of film at the top before placing thereinforcement and closing the formwork (rain andsun cannot damage the coating in the short term).

Fix the sheets in the wall joints (see Connections: T-▪

joint) and remove both halves of the protective film. The concrete fall height should be kept to a minim-um until the joint sheet is fully integrated. Avoidtouching the sheet or working anywhere close to itwith the vibrating concrete poker.

ConnectionsT-joint, horizontal floor slab/vertical wall joint: Firstremove the film, then press firmly and secure withtwo joint clamps.

Connection to expansion joint waterbar: The metalsheet is clamped to the outermost edge of the water-stop with Sika KS 12 clamping bars.
