Signs that you Need Glasses Whether we want to admit it or not, the older we get the more likely it becomes that one way or

another we are going to need glasses. Oftentimes the question is not “will I need glasses,” but “when

will I need glasses?” Here are a few tips to help you recognize when you need to get your own pair of

specs.

Blurry Vision If your vision becomes blurry when you are looking at something nearby, this may mean that you have

farsightedness, also known as hyperopia. This is why some people use glasses specifically for reading

and nothing else as the small print up close to their face is too blurry to read. If you have a more serious

case you may need more permanent glasses.

Distance The opposite of this is of course nearsightedness, also known as myopia. This

is the opposite of hyperopia in that you can see up-close and nearby things

with ease but anything far away from you is more difficult and blurry.

Astigmatism If you are having difficulty with seeing anything both nearby and far away this

means that you have astigmatism and will definitely need to get glasses to

wear.

Dark and Light If you are straining your eyes at night or just in the dark more often than you feel is normal, or if others

around you can see significantly better than you at night than you can, this would be a sign to get your

eyes checked. In addition, if you experience pain or difficulty transitioning when you walk into the light

from the dark surroundings, this suggests light sensitivity and could mean that you need glasses.

Computer While working at the computer, your eyes have to adjust to the lights

on the screen. If you are constantly dimming the brightness of your

screen because your eyes cannot handle it, it is time for an eye exam.

Eye strain or eye fatigue is a result of trying to see clearly without the

aid of any visual enhancements such as glasses or contacts. This does

not indicate whether you are specifically nearsighted, farsighted, or if

you have astigmatism, so it is important to get your eyes tested to

know for sure.

Frequent headaches These headaches may be a result of the eye strain previously mentioned. Not only are these painful but

they can be distracting and worrisome, especially if they are becoming more and more constant. Before

jumping to any conclusions about your brain, get your eyes tested.

Double Vision This does not necessarily mean that you are about to pass out. Seeing things in double or sometimes

even triple can also just mean that your eyes are changing and need glasses to help them along.

If you have health insurance that covers vision care take advantage of it and use it to get an exam to tell

you whether or not you need glasses. If you do not have this insurance, it is well worth the investment

to stay safe and healthy.
