Shout Out from North Graham Elementary Laura Calone, Assistant Principal North Graham's A+ Arts committee decided to create a 5th grade legacy project as one final activity to end our first year as an A+ Arts school. With guidance from Mrs. Combs (Art Teacher), Mrs. Farlow (A+

committee chair, ESL & RtI teacher), the 5th grade teachers: Mrs. Smith, Mr. Bolyard, Mrs. Frank, and donations from Officer Denny at the Graham PD, every 5th grade student designed and painted their own stone. Each stone was designed as a representation of each student's artistic style. We plan to continue this project each year so every student has a lasting memory as they move on throughout their educational journey!

Shout Out from Southern Middle Tracy Schledorn, School Counselor Thank you so much to SMS for accommodating the Stress Less group this past month! All tallied, there were 949 attendees that came to the morning group over the 4 sessions offered per grade. That's including those that came more than once so the number of individual students affected is certainly less than that. But still... close to a thousand chances to reduce a student's stress level before they went to class! I was honored to have this time with so many students and am looking at ways to incorporate Stress Less next year! Teachers also used online resources to lead your students through the breathing exercise we practiced. The 4-7-8 breathing technique has been shown to have drastic benefits when practiced long-term but it certainly couldn't hurt to do here at this stressful time of year! Check out the links below!

Shout Out to Southern High CTE Chris Marks, Academic Coach On Thursday, June 2nd, the Southern High Carpentry students hosted a Parade of Homes Showcase during third period and invited faculty and students to the event during lunch. This semester, students completed a custom designed and built playhouse and Hunter Hideaway deer stands for customers and set up the Parade of Homes on the front lawn of the school. In order to stage the event like a real Parade of Homes, landscaping plants came from the Horticulture program’s greenhouse, Interior Design students showcased color way and design boards for the playhouse, and Foods II Enterprise class students catered the event. Carpentry and Core students also had other woodworking projects on display.

The featured home in the parade in the Patriot Pride Neighborhood was the custom-built playhouse featuring its reclaimed student-made Western Cedar exterior siding decorative shingles and mailbox, handmade shutters and latches and the custom Dutch door, window boxes and porch railings.

Cindy Farmer from Fox 8 interviewed students and filmed a segment for her What’s Right With Our Schools series to air next week.

Animal archery targets helped to stage the scene for the “Hunters Hideaway Resort” property featured in the Parade of Homes.
