TEVIOT BROOK GETS A HEALTHY BOOST
An environmental restoration program known as the Improving water qualityand riparian condition in Teviot Brook is currently underway. It focuses on theMt Alford and Croftby district to build on previous efforts by the Scenic Rim RiverImprovement Trust to improve the health of stream bank native vegetation, andto help improve the water quality flowinginto Wyaralong Dam which is situatedfurther down Teviot Brook.
The first project involves works on theproperty of Jeff and Jill Vanstone onBlackrock Creek, a tributary of TeviotBrook, which will play an important rolein demonstrating to other landholdersthe type of works to be carried outthrough this program.
On-ground works have included:
engineered earthworks to minimisefurther erosion
revegetation to increase bank stability
fencing to control stock access.
Jeff stated that the project area wasonce an area of his property he wouldrather have avoided showing visitors;now he is proud to show any visitors thework undertaken and couldnt behappier with the outcome.
But that's not all. The ongoing projectwill also create riparian buffer zones,develop weed management strategiesand create conservation corridors toimprove native flora and fauna.

Balancing grazing & wildlifeSEQ Catchments is involved in twonew Caring For Our Country pro-jects:
1. The first balances grazing man-agement and endangered wildlifehabitat restoration in the Kerry val-ley. It will address habitat loss,weeds, inappropriate fire & grazingregimes across an area of 500ha soas to extend habitats and addressthreats to 22 nationally threatenedspecies.
2. The other project will implementtargeted fire management strategiesin the Border Ranges to restore criti-cal habitats for the endangered East-ern bristlebird, Hastings River mouse& Eastern Chestnut mouse.
Carbon Farming InitiativeRoadshowBeaudesert 18th SeptemberA Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI)
Roadshow will be travelling to
Beaudesert to provide greater under-
standing of carbon farming. Special-
ist speakers will provide information
on what the Carbon Farming Initia-
tive entails and opportunities that
might exist for rural producers and
land managers to generate revenue
through the sale of carbon credits.
Discussion will include ways to en-
gage in agricultural practices thatcan help make your business and
land more resilient to climate varia-
bility.

Scenic Rim Regional Council Environmental Grants Program
Application close 5pm Friday 24 August 2012. Eligible recipients include com-munity groups, schools and private property landowners who currently partici-pate in a Council conservation program (e.g. Land for Wildlife and VoluntaryConservation Covenants). Submitted applications will be assessed for their envi-ronmental outcomes for the region. Applicants are encouraged to read the Envi-ronmental Grants Guidelines to determine the range of suitable projects thatmay be funded.
