This senior seminar will help you find a job in public service, get a job…and keep it. You will gain skills in managerial analysis, ethical leadership, group dynamics, organizational culture… PPA 420 is the senior seminar in public management. A ‘capstone’ class for the Public Policy & Administration major, PPA 420 fulfills the College of Arts and Letters writing-‐intensive requirement. It is here that you are expected to demonstrate an integration of the knowledge you have acquired during your managerial studies in public policy and administration. You should have either junior or senior standing if you take this course, and it is assumed (because you have taken most of the other courses for the major) that you have in depth knowledge in the management and public administration disciplines, in general, and budgeting and human resource practices in particular. Organized in four modules including an exploration of your career, this course is case study based, and it will exercise your skills at managerial analysis with ample time for self-‐reflection to better prepare you for some of the realities of managerial responsibility in the public and nonprofit sectors. Module 1: Managing Organizations, Module 2: Individuals, Module 3: Groups, Module 4: Career Exploration.
