Prerequisite: Must be able to walk a 20-minute mile on uneven surfaces without shortness of breath. Please be prepared with hiking boots & gear as discussed in

the Walking & Hiking Orientation.

This is a 4-mile qualifying hike for those wanting to

move on to Hike for Health. The majority of the hike is

uphill & downhill with stair climbing & descending

(100 steps) included.

This hike is specifically designed for those wanting to move on to Wilderness Hikes.

It is 7-8 miles in length with significant elevation gains.

Prerequisite: Must attend the Hike for Health Qualifier & qualify to attend.

The Senior Recreation hiking program offers 4 levels. As individuals gain strength & endurance they may

choose to qualify to move on to longer & more difficult hikes.

Springwater Corridor Bike Ride 3-Wheel RideTake a slow-paced, enjoyable & social ride on Portland’s paved car-free paths. We will ride 2.5 miles to Linnamann Station & then return. See dozens of species of plants & wildlife. Comfortable & stable three-wheeled bicycles & helmets will be ready & waiting & are included in the fee. Bring water, sunglasses & raingear if needed.

Prerequisites: ability to get on & off the bike several times for proper bike adjustment & ability to pedal for an extended period of time.

Portland Sunday Parkways Bike Ride 3-Wheel RideEnjoy a 6-9 mile traffic free route filled with surprises, performers, physical activity & food. We will have a half hour break mid ride to enjoy the festivities. Comfortable & stable three-wheeled bikes & helmets are included in the fee. Bring water, sun glasses, raingear if needed & money for booths.

Prerequisites: Must have ridden a bike in the past or taken a Springwater Corridor ride. Plus you will need to be able to get on & off the bike several times for proper bike adjustment & be able to push a bike uphill if you are unable to make a section of the ride.

NEWBike Maintenance Workshop2-Wheel Do you want to ride efficiently & smoothly & increase your bikes life cycle? Learn to quickly fix a flat, adjust the tire pressure to match the riding conditions, reapply a chain, lube a chain, make minor adjustments & assure your bike & helmet are properly fitted for you. Class time & demonstration will be followed by hands-on practice. Bring your bike for fitting & hands-on practice time or you can choose to watch during this portion. GOLF 5K

Golf Instructor Larry Fleckenstein has been playing golf since 1968 & began tournament play in 1975. He won or placed at numerous golf tournaments including local OPGA, OGA & club events in the Portland area, Pacific NW, Bend, Coastal area, etc. He was Heron Lakes Senior Club Champion in 2009 & is an eight time Club Champion since 1993. In 2002, he placed in the World Masters Games in Australia.

RESIDENT / NON-RESIDENTA resident is:

• anyone who occupies a permanent residence inside the city limits of Portland. At the discretion of a Community Center Director, proof of home address may be required. Acceptable address verification may include a 1) drivers license, 2) Oregon ID card, 3) property tax statement, 4) utility bill or lease agreement with current home address.

• any child living within the school boundaries of the Reynolds and Centennial School Districts who is attending a SUN Community School. Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident surcharge.

Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a 40% surcharge (rounded to the next highest quarter (.25)). NR surcharges do not apply to drop-in activities. Non-residents who wish to register for PP&R activities may choose one of these options:

• Pay the additional 40% NR fee.

• Purchase a NR fee discount pass as either an individual or family for a period of three, six or nine months from the date of purchase. The NR discount pass takes 25% off the NR fee for the activity. Inquire about this option at time of registration. These passes are not refundable.

If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform staff and we will make reasonable efforts to honor your request. If you see staff taking pictures, and you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know.

If you see a photo of yourself or a family member that causes you concern, please notify us. As a courtesy, we will make every reasonable effort to dispose of the image, and will not use it in future publications. However, we will not be able to retrieve, destroy or discontinue existing printed publications in which the photograph may have been included.

INCLEMENT WEATHERIf the City of Portland public school districts (Portland Public, Parkrose, David Douglas, Reynolds, and Centennial) are closed because of weather conditions, PP&R classes and youth basketball in those school districts are cancelled. However, some sites may be open for drop-in activities. Call the specific PP&R facility for information and opening/closing times. If inclement weather is forecast on weekends or holidays, call the PP&R facility or program for operating hours and activity cancellations.

DONATIONS: Senior Recreation works cooperatively with Portland area Senior Centers & Loaves & Fishes. In support of these programs, participants who are financially able are encouraged to make a facility donation.

RECEIVE A CATALOG IN THE MAIL: If you have registered for a Senior Recreation class within the last twelve months you will automatically receive next term’s schedule in the mail, as long as the address we have for you is current.

Visa or MasterCard are accepted by phone. Or, call any of our community centers to register over the phone.

MAIL. Mail in your completed registration form (page 41) to PP&R Customer Service Center, 1120 SW Fifth Ave, Suite 1302, Portland, OR 97204. Include full payment using your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or check payable to the City of Portland.

FAX. Fax to 503-823-2515. Complete the registration form (page 41) and fax it to us with full payment using your Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Fax is accepted 24 hours/day, seven days/week but is processed during regular business hours.

IN PERSON. Any PP&R facility is able to process your registration, including the Customer Service Center which is located in the lobby of the Portland Building at 1120 SW Fifth Ave. See the map of our facilities within this catalog.
