3D Game DesignVideo Game Design is a prerequisite for this course. This class offers an interac-tive look at the world of 3D Game Design. This awesome 3D video game design course offers the chance for students to create and immerse themselves in a 3D world. Robotics – NEWThis course offers hands–on oppor-tunities to build and program robots. Working in small teams, students will design robotics systems to compete in fun real–world activities. Each day will bring a new challenge, and your team’s robot will have to morph to better adapt and compete. Students will compete in the battle bots competition at the end of camp to prove their robot is the best. MAD SCIENCE CAMP Mad Science camps offer a daily combi-nation of in–class discovery and explora-tion, outdoor games, physical activities and hands–on applications of the scien-tific principles presented. Your child will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about.We use simple, real world science tech-niques that allow even the youngest of campers to enjoy our learning environ-ment. Campers create, build and as-semble a variety of take–home projects while exploring how science affects the world around us. Chemicals, Cells & CrimeGet ready for a day in the Mad Science Laboratory! Children will turn a lemon into a battery and discover electrochemi-cal reactions as they electroplate a penny and a nickel. They will learn how new compounds are created from chemical reactions, take a fantastic trip into “cell city” and the human body and learn about cells and the different parts and functions of a cell. They will investigate the different organ systems and make a gutsy apron and a model lung to take home. Lastly, they will team up with fel-low campers to solve the “Great Cookie Caper” crime with the detective skills they learn. They will walk the grid, col-lect evidence and test their forensic skills to solve the crime and make their own cookie snack. There is so much to explore during the day! Rocking Rockets and Aerodynamics This camp takes the children through the principles of flight and aerodynamics. They build airplanes, a hovercraft and balloon copters. They will discover what makes things fly and how different types of flying devices become air borne. They explore the role that wind and the move-ment of air plays on simple flying devices such as kites, hot air balloons and para-chutes. Campers will learn about the Milky Way and be able to answer the question, What is the Milky Way? and How do we know what’s up there? Chil-dren explore the celestial sphere, learn about celestial navigation and build their own sextant, sundial, planisphere and even a refracting telescope while discovering the wonders of the Milky Way. This camp takes children to exhilarating heights all summer long! If participating in an all day camp please bring a sack lunch.7–12 yrs.July 18–22 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $160

Nature, Bugs and BlossomsYoung explorers discover the natural world of bugs, plants and humans! They learn the life cycle of a simple seed to a full–grown plant. They investigate how the sun, wind and rain affect life—in-cluding not just plants but even creepy crawlies and bugs. They become weather artists using rain and wind as their tools! They will explore the life of a caterpillar and discover how it turns into a beautiful butterfly. Students will make their own bug bracelet and discover the difference between fruits and vegetables from their own placemats. They finish camp by making a mural of a garden with their fellow campers. 4–6 yrs.June 13–17 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $155

Lego Mindstorm RoboticsChildren explore the exciting world of robotics! They learn the mechani-cal aspects of robots including gears, torque, hydraulics and pneumatics. They discover electrical circuitry as it powers robots at work and explore a robot’s principal components by identifying, comparing and testing toy robots. Camp-ers will form small robotics teams to build programmable robots using the Lego NXT Mindstorms systems. Children work with ultrasonic, touch, color and motion sensors which collect information around them. The program interprets this infor-mation and makes the robot respond to its environment. Children make the robots move in a dancing fashion, have them identify colors, follow a line and avoid objects. These future roboticists will learn teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking skills and develop the value of self–motivation and resourceful-ness. dren use the ‘scene solver’ to reconstruct the scene of a crime. Using the ‘whodunit–kit’, they can practice their skills of recall and observation—matching character descriptions to reconstruct the face of the culprit! Look out 007—the Mad Science spy academy is in session! From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, children have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible messages! Campers will use the ‘secret code breaker’ to communi-cate in code like real spies. With the ‘un-dercover observer’, children step into the shoes of spies in action. **A four–day camp

Me and My Amazing WorldThis camp focuses on how people are all a part of this amazing world! Children learn about the human body and its vari-ous organ systems. They meet Mr. Bones and learn about bones, muscles, and respiratory stems. This engaging camp looks at the choices we make when we eat food. Campers will learn about fruits & vegetables, how to build a good meal and how a “food pyramid” can help them choose what healthy foods to eat. Then they discover how our senses like taste, smell, touch, hear and see make life ever more fun and enjoyable! There are other interesting things to do and learn at this camp as we humans interact with our environment. We learn about some science of sports and nature and many more. Join us for a week of discovery!4–6 yrs. June 20–24 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $155

Little Agents and DetectivesChildren learn basic skills in observation and problem solving in this fun filled camp on detective science and spying. They learn how to collect evidence and such as fingerprints, shoe tracks, fibers etc. They learn how the importance of good observation when together they work on making face profiles. What is more fun than spying! They learn and work with tools that spies use such as a

“spynocular”, metal detectors, listening gadgets and more!4–6 yrs. July 11–15 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $150

Brixology: Engineers Shape the WorldBrixology is a NEW engineering camp, which allows kids to step into the shoes of an engineer. Build different LEGO-TM projects inspired by an engineering theme such as a space capsule, a paddle wheel boat, a Viking ship, a sky roller, a peacock puzzle and more—and all these creations are to take home! Explore engineering fields including mechani-cal, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering. Use critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem–solv-ing skills to test and improve creations.7–12 yrs. June 13–17 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $175July 11–15 1 – 4 p.m. $175

Eureka! Mad Inventors Camp: Inventing means curiosity! (Part 1)Inventing means curiosity! Leonardo da Vinci started as an artist and developed many scientific observations in his life-time. Children try their hand at his experi-ments including writing notes backwards, measuring human proportions, building

a self–supporting arch bridge and build-ing catapults. The budding inventors bring home their da Vinci designs and devices at the end of the day. Inven-tors Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were locked in several battles over electrical inventions of their era. Children work together to form circuits and recreate Tesla’s bright atmosphere for the 1893 World’s Fair. The class moves from simple devices to Rube Goldberg devices and the children perform as parts of a complex human–machine. The children prepare a patent proposal and receive a patent certificate at the end of the camp day. 7–12 yrs. June 20–24 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $160

Eureka! Mad Inventors Camp: Inventing is dreaming the future (Part 2)Science comes alive by inventing through futuristic dreams and imagination like Jules Verne and Isaac Asimov did in their writings. They developed them into future possibilities. In this camp, future inventors get a lesson on lasers, build a light stick and work on protecting a space ship from damaging space rays. Orville and Wilbur Wright worked together to develop the first self–controlled motor-ized flying machine. Children review technological advances in flight and work together to produce improved paper plane designs. The children then step into space by launching self–built rockets and loading a payload capsule puzzle. These flight fanatics go home with a squadron of paper airplanes for further test flights. Come to the camp and fly into the future of science!7–12 yrs. June 27 – July 1 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. $160

Bridges, Birds, Machines and “Che–mystery”

Look forward to many areas of fun and engaging science. Investigate arches, geodesic domes and bridges. Test loads and build some bridges when you put on an engineer’s hat and learn about struc-tures. Where do owls live? What do they eat? How do some bugs walk on water? We will answer these questions and more as we explore owls, birds, and all kinds of bugs. Find out how wedges, screws, and levers help us with our daily lives. Run through an obstacle course and use teamwork to show how useful simple ma-chines can be. What is chemistry and how is it part of our everyday life? Explore this great topic and use chemistry to make your own sidewalk chalk and a chocolate candy roll. Create a crystal garden out of common household items. Come and discover the world!7–12 yrs. Disney Mini MusicalHakuna Matata… Summer Fun and The-atrics! The cast will help choose some of their favorite Disney songs and assemble a 20–minute musical complete with speaking parts and props. EXTREME ANIMALS CAMPSExtreme animals is a “zoo to you” zoo that rescues and cares for exotic animals. The owner has been around wild/exotic animals most of her life and believes that by allowing others to interact with animals they may never encounter in the wild, they gain a respect and desire to protect animals they may not understand. This is essential in the preservation of the entire planet’s wildlife. In these camps, you will get up close and personal with wild and exotic animals while learning about them and their habitats.To register call the Parks and Recreation Department at 359–4630

Extreme Animals of Africa and South America Take a walk on the WILD side! Join us on a safari as we interact with the animals and learn about the cultures of these amazing places. Along with having lots of fun, we will be learning and participat-ing in conservation efforts for endan-gered species like lemurs. You will have a chance to observe a training session with Serabi our beautiful African serval and engage in water play with our baby crocodiles. Students will have the rare op-portunity to learn about these and many other animals as they interact in a safe and entertaining environment. Bongo drums, arts and crafts, jungle exercise sessions and animal interaction are just the beginning of the fun things going on at this camp.6–12 yrs. Extreme Animals of Australia and AsiaLet’s take a walkabout down under! Aus-tralia is a harsh environment and

the animals there have amazing ways to deal with it. From hopping kangaroos and sun–loving dragons in Australia to otters and snakes in Asia, our camp is a WILD place to be! Learn about these two different continents while interacting with animals from both and take part in conservation efforts for the endangered Tasmanian Devil. HOW TO RENT A PAVILION/ROOM The City of Edmond Parks and Recreation Department has pavilions and rooms available for rent for your private function. For information on availability, pricing and booking, call the Parks and Recreation office at (405) 359-4630 or visit us M-F 8am-5pm at the MAC building in Mitch Park.

Planning a special event? Any event that offers a public invitation that includes use of city services must be approved by our Special Events Committee. City services include, but are not limited to: street closures, trash receptacles, police/fire services. Anyone interested in having a special event must contact Sarah London by calling (405) 359-4580 for information and an application.

REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY 1.) If a class has been canceled by the instructor or Parks and Recreation Department at any time, we will work to reschedule the class. If you cannot make the rescheduled class, you have the option for a full refund or you may have a credit for the amount of your class placed on your account. Credits expire one year from the date of the original class.2.) If a registered customer withdraws more than 7 days prior to the date of the class, the customer may receive a full refund or have credit placed on their account. Credits expire one year from the date of the original class.3.) If a registered customer withdraws for a class less than 7 days prior to the date of the class, the customer will forfeit their fee. This is due to minimum class participant requirements being met 7 days prior to a class so supplies can be

purchased and the contracted instructor can plan. Credits and possible refunds will be considered with extenuating circumstances.

The Refund & Cancelation policy applies only to our fee-based Recreation Programs and not to: KickingBird Tennis Center; KickingBird Golf Club; Edmond Farmers Market; Pelican Bay Aquatic Center; Arcadia Lake; pavilion or room rentals within the Parks and Recreation Department.

Program Tardiness PolicyPrograms will start promptly at the designed time. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so you can scan your card and be ready for class.

Recreation Card All class participants must sign a yearly liabil–ity waiver and have their picture taken for a Recreation Card. Participants must bring this card each time they come in for a class and have it scanned at the front desk.

The first card is free and any additional or replacement cards will incur a $ 5 fee.

Arcadia Lake

Arcadia Lake is located on the Deep Fork River and has 1,820 surface acres and 26 miles of shoreline. Facilities include picnicking, camping, swimming, water skiing, boating, hiking, disc golf and an equestrian trail. Central State ParkCentral State Park is 2.5 Miles east of I–35 on 2nd Street (Route 66) with 249 acres. This park features a shower, courtesy dock, boat ramp, swim beach, two playgrounds, primitive, regular, and full hook–up camping, pavilions, hiking trails and fishing. Daily use is 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Camping and fishing are available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Edmond ParkEdmond Park is located 2 miles east of I–35 on 2nd Street with 131 acres. This park features a swim beach, hiking trails, boat ramp, Boy Scout area, playground, kids fishing pond, pavilion, primitive camping, fishing and a softball field. The UCO OAR Center is located in this park.Daily use is 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Camping and fishing are available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Closed November – March

Scissortail CampgroundScissortail Campground is located 1.5 Miles east of I–35 on 15th Street, with 141 acres. This park features a shower, pavilion, and regular hook–up camping. Camping is allowed 24 hours, 7 days a week. Closed November – March

Spring Creek ParkSpring Creek Park is located 2.5 miles east of I–35 on 15th Street with 194 acres. This park features a 36–hole disc golf course, enclosed heated fishing dock, pavilion, fishing, boat ramp, courtesy dock, jet ski area, swim beach, playground and a group RV area. KickingBird Golf Club

KickingBird Golf Club is the City of Edmond’s only municipal golf course. Built in 1971, KickingBird is Edmond’s oldest golf course and is still well known for its traditional 18–hole championship layout. KickingBird Golf Club has hosted many professional and amateur championships. KickingBird hosted the Oklahoma Open from 1979–1985 and many of its storied champions include Danny Edwards, Dr. Gil Morgan, Doug Tewell, and Bob Tway. KickingBird is currently the permanent home site of the Oklahoma Golf Association’s Junior Boys and Girls Championships. Come experience great golf with a family friendly atmosphere. We offer a number of programs for juniors and adults of all skill levels. If you are interested in golf, KickingBird Golf Club is sure to have a program or event for you!

The Festival Market Place is located on 2nd street one block west of Broadway in downtown Edmond. The Festival Market Place is home to the Edmond Farmer’s Market that runs from Mid–April through the end of October. For more information call 359–4630.

Amenities and RatesFestival Market Place is an outdoor special event venue and has been the home of the Edmond Farmer’s Market since 2004.The Festival Market Place is a great location for groups or individuals to hold fundraising events, family reunions, weddings and receptions, concerts, craft shows and more. It is a 63’ X 142’ open–air pavilion with water, electricity, ceiling fans, plaza area and public restrooms. It is available for rent except during the Farmer’s Market, some holidays** or other scheduled events. Below are the rental rates:
