SOUL ANNOUNCE ‘VIRTUA CERTIFIED, SOUL APPROVED’

CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM PHILADELPHIA (February 18, 2014) – The Philadelphia Soul and Virtua, a comprehensive healthcare system headquartered in Marlton,

NJ with four hospitals in the southern New Jersey area; South Jersey Elite Invitational Youth Football League (SJEIYFL), recognized as the

leader of youth Football and Cheerleading in New Jersey; and Carz N’ Toyz, a Virtua Foundation Community Partner known for its philan-

thropic efforts which benefit hospitalized children as well as funding for concussion impact testing for young athletes, have teamed to cre-

ate Virtua Certified, Soul Approved” Concussion program.

The program will include a series of seminars run by Virtua health experts to educate attendees on concussion management as well as

“Heads Up Tackling” proper tackling techniques training led by Philadelphia Soul coaches and players along with four area Head Football

Coaches (PJ Mehigan Cherokee, Tim Gushue Shawnee, Bill Fisher Seneca & Tim McAneny Lenape). Unlike many programs that

exist where only the organization leader receives the proper training on concussion management and that person is expected to relay the

information, “Virtua Certified, Soul Approved” is open to the public so that everybody involved in the young athletes care can be properly

trained directly from the experts and understand their specific role with this issue.

“I have dealt with the concussion issue personally during my entire life,” said Soul owner and ESPN Analyst Ron Jaworski. “Playing foot-

ball and working around the NFL for so many years, this program is exactly what needs to be done to educate everybody early in the ath-

lete’s careers so we can greatly reduce the effects that concussions have on athletes and keep the best sport in the world thriving”.

Before the 2012 Season our school district did one of the best things in concus-

sion awareness—they replaced every helmet with “Riddell Speed Helmets”

which are one of the best proven helmets on the market today! This along with

coaches being certified each year on “Concussion Awareness” - and a new ap-

proach to tackling “USA Football Heads Up Tackling” - we saw an overall de-

crease in concussions the last two seasons. I don’t think we will ever stop con-

cussions but if we can keep kids believing in proper tackling and coaches contin-

ue to preach “Heads Up” - we can hopefully keep the numbers low! The USA

Heads Up Tackling Technique is about the best form tackling approach I have

seen when it comes to teaching safety! This upcoming year I will be certified to

teach this tackling technique to all of my assistants and also to everyone of our

Youth Coaches. I want Seneca to be one of the best teams in South Jersey (in

both HS and Youth Football) when it comes to demonstrating proper tackling

techniques. Starting in 2014 this will be a top priority!

COACH FISHER CONTACT INFO

First off “Welcome” you are almost Seneca Golden Eagles. We look forward to coaching all

of you for the next 4 years and hopefully walk away with a couple of Championships. Right now I will be honest with all of you—I have never been this excited about our future!

I feel we are very close to raising our entire program to another whole level! To do this will be a lot of work on your part but “It will pay off!” At top of this page is all of my contact info. Players and parents feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I will

be at all Middle Schools in May to sign up all 8th graders who will be playing Football at Seneca next year. I will also have handouts, schedules and other vital information. Below is a tentative schedule of our Summer for all Frosh Players. This schedule might change

some but for the most part it is very close.
