SEC 1 VIA ACTIVITY:

FOOD PACKING ATFOOD FROM THE

HEART

Food from the Heart (FFTH) was founded by an Austrian

couple, Mr Henry and Ms Christine Laimer.

They were motivated by their wish to

help the underprivileged in Singapore

while minimizing wastage of precious

leftover food that would otherwise

be discarded.

WHO IS FOOD FROM THE HEART?

Food from the Heart has a few programmes like the Bread

Distribution Programme, Food Goodie Bag, Birthdays from

the Heart and Toys from the Heart .

WHO IS FOOD FROM THE HEART?

Food from the Heart works with schools to identify their

most needy students, then provides monthly supplies to

help their families make ends meet.

Our Secondary 1 students from BGSS go to FFTH each

year to pack food goodie bags which will go to these

families

Food from the Heart supplies monthly non-perishable

food items to over 4,200 individuals from the families of

over 1000 school children, supplementing their

livelihoods with basic necessities such as rice, cooking

oil, biscuits, beverages and canned food.

HOW DO WE PLAY OUR PART?

Packing food

into plastic

bags

PICTURES OF PAST TRIPS TO FFTH

GOING FROM COUNTER TO

COUNTER TO PUT DIFFERENT

ITEMS IN THE BOX

Tying goodie bags

for delivery

Inspired by the work that FFTH has done, Sec 1

welfare leaders came together to organize food

collection and packing within BGSS

They managed to pack over 150 bags of food in

2014 to 2016

Look out for opportunities to be part of the BGSS

food collection and packing in Semester 2!

HOW DO WE PLAY OUR PART?

“There was teamwork as we took charge of dif ferent tasks and

this helped the food packing process to be more efficient. We

also had fun working as a class.” – Soh Wan Qing

“I feel very guilty for taking the food we eat for granted as

others can’t af ford it , so we should cherish what we have.” –

Alyn Quek

SO, GO TO FFTH WITH:

An open mind and heart

Willing hands to help in whatever way you can

We welcome parents to join us for the VIA.

Please inform the Form Teachers in

advance via the consent form.

SEMESTER 2Each class to sign up for 1 Saturday session of Project KAN

(FTs rotate between the 2 shifts for the Saturday the class is down)

What is Project KAN?

It is a food donation drive whereby our students are required to approach shoppers at Fairpriceand encourage them to purchase non -perishable food items while shopping, and donating them to FFTH.

It is a collaboration between BGSS, Kampong Chai Chee CC YEC and Fairprice since 2012.

How does it benefit our students?

Builds their confidence in approaching members of the public and explaining the objective of the project. Students also build resil ience as they face rejections.
