PERSONAL ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS: NEW APPLICANTS

Please write this essay yourself, in your own words.

It is okay to get help, but we want your essay to show how you write. It's okay to make mistakes - we understand that you are learning English as a second language! We care more about the content (your personal experience and opinions), than perfect spelling or grammar.

The essay should be a Word document, 250 - 400 words, typed, and double spaced.

No Google docs will be accepted.

Please answer each question:

* What are your hopes for your future beyond high school?

* How will more education help you?

* What challenges did you have to overcome to get this far?

* What challenges do you expect to find over the summer or next year?

* Why should we choose you for this scholarship?

(Note: Our scholarships are not only for those with the highest GPAs. We look for students who work hard, help others, and try to improve. We look at how hard your classes were, if they were ESL or regular classes, and if you tried to improve. We look for students who challenge themselves, and who want to continue their education, to learn more and prepare for a good life. We look at students' individual situations to see what you need.)
