Front Cover

Step 1

• To start with, I changed the colour of the background to black, this will be part of the house style throughout my magazine.

Step 2

• This masthead is from daFont, the style is very pop.

• It is the main font of the magazine and is used on my 2nd contents page and as a standfirst on my double page spread.

Step 3

• Then I added a curve in the corner of my magazine to hold the full name of my magazine.

• The font of this text is a lot harder than the masthead.

Step 4

• I then used various colours of one brush to cover the text and curve with clipping mask.

• This makes it seem a lot more pop, but it also seems to be a bit grimy, which matches the purpose of my magazine.

Step 5

• Now I have changed the style of the masthead using a red to black gradient, it gives it a very good look.

Step 6

• Then I added a cracks in the masthead’s O’s to make them seem like a broken record. This helps to give the magazine an indie style (harder but not rock.)

• I also added a bit at the bottom for cover lines, the spikes also provide the look that this magazine is harder than a pop magazine.

Step 7

• On this step I added the font style for the magazine, the orange goes well against the black background, it also goes very well against the red at the bottom.

• The orange rectangles separate the cover lines.

• The barcode shows the price and date of the magazine. It also shows the web link of my magazine.

Step 8

• Then I added an image I cut out with the magnetic lasso tool, the image relates to the pull quote as the picture is a top down pic.

Step 9

• Then I added a blue gradient just to make my magazine look better. It is also the same as the font gradient used on my first contents page.

Step 10

• This is my completed magazine. On this slide I have added a flash and slogan.

• The flash is similar to the box holding the cover lines.

• The slogan is the same style as my masthead, but the font is the same as the orange text.
