International Holidays

All Saints Day is celebrated in various countries around the world on November 1st. In Spain, All Saints Day is honored by visiting cemeteries with offerings of flowers to deceased family members. The Tazaungdaing Festival is held on November 6th in Myanmar. The festival also marks the end of Kahtein season, during which monks are offered new robes and alms. During the festival, in Northern Shan State, hot air balloons lit with candles are released as an offering to Buddha in Heaven. Independence Day is celebrated November 26th in Mongolia. The holiday commemorates the creation of Mongolia's first constitution in 1924. The holiday is marked by speeches from government officials, traditional music and dances, and more. Bonifacio Day is celebrated November 30th in the Philippines. The holiday celebrates the birth of Andres Bonifacio, one of the national heroes of the Philippines. To commemorate the holiday, Filipinos spend the day with their families and friends to bond and rest.

Employee Spotlight This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Special Project Manager Lisa Smith. Lisa joined the SCOLA team in April 2013 and manages Spoken Word and Savoir-Vivre, which will soon be released on SCOLA.org. Lisa also promotes SCOLA through their social media pages and the monthly newsletter. Before SCOLA, Lisa graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Lisa recently got married, and now that wedding planning is over she is spending her free time relaxing and hanging out with family and friends.
