4. Do not eat food or drink beverages of any kind in the laboratory. Do not use lab glassware as containers for food or drink. 8. Observe good housekeeping practices. Work areas should be kept neat and tidy at all times. Materials should be labeled and organized. Bring only your lab instructions, worksheets and lab journal into the work area . Other materials (books, purses, binders, etc) to be stored out of the way by placing them on the rach under your chair. BACKPACKS ARE NEVER ALLOWED 9. Keep aisles clear. Keep your belongings on the rack under your chair so they will not be tripped upon. Push your chair under the table when it is not in use. 12. Never mix chemicals chemicals in the sink or drains. Sinks are to be used only for water and those solutions designated by the instructor. Solid chemicals, metals, matches, paper, and other insoluble materials are to be disposed of in the proper waste containers. 18. Know what to do if there is a fire drill during the laboratory period. Containers must be closed, gas valves turned off, electrical burners turned off and unplugged, and all other electrical equipment turned off. 19. Anytime chemicals, heat, or glassware are used; students will wear laboratory safety glasses, There are no exceptions to this rule! Eye protection must be worn until instructed otherwise by the teacher. 20. Dress properly for the lab. No dangling jewelt and hair. No long sleeves must be worn. Jackets must be removed. Must completely cover the foot. 21. Lab aprons will be provided as necessary for your use and must be worn during the lab activity. 22. report any breakage of any lab glassware to the teacher immediately. 23. Report any accidental injury to the teacher immediately no matter how trivial it may appear. This includes burns, scratches, cuts, or corrosive liquids on either skin or clothing. 24. If a spill occurs, you must contain the spill to keep it from spreading, report the spill to the teacher, tell the teacher what was spilled(acid or base), follow instructions to neutralize any chemicals involved in the spill, and be sure the area is dry and clean before leaving. 26. Gloves should be worn to protect your hands when using electric heaters and resulting hot glassware 27. ALL chemicals are to be considered dangerous. Do not touch, taste, or smell any chemical unless instructed to do so. The proper technique for smelling chemical fumes is to wave your hand above the container and to sniff cautiously from a distance. This technique is known as “wafting”
