appear on walls in towns and cities which are now
worth thousands. Banksy, last month, released the

think about who your superheroes are. Either
using your own drawings, clipping from
magazines or printed images, create your own
collage of who have been your heroes during this
pandemic.

Challenge About this type of Scientific Enquiry
Research Carl Linneaus who created
the system of taxonomy, which is how
we classify living things.

Identifying and classifying is how we can make
sense and order of the world around us. This
enquiry type requires using observation and
reasoning skills.
Examples of classifying include how we
classify animals (into mammals, reptiles etc),
plants and foods.
Identifying and classifying is used by
scientists to help learn about the natural
world.
Question
Can you identify trees on a local walk,
by being a leaf detective?
This week, we would like you to be leaf detectives! Ask an adult to take a walk with you in
your local area (or if this is not possible, ask a relative or friend if they could kindly collect
some leaves to drop off at your house)
Use the Leaf ID chart- you could print it out and take it with you, or collect the leaves and
bring them back home to compare on your tablet/ computer.
Can you identify the leaves you have collected/ seen? Look at their shape, texture and
colour to help you.
Take care! Some leaves may be spiky. Also, when collecting leaves, please wash your hands
thoroughly with soap afterwards.
Activity
Use the Leaf ID chart to identify your leaves. Do you notice any similarities or differences
between different leaves? Think about the shape, colour and texture of the leaves.
Extension
Create a classification key to identify
your selected objects, similar to this
