The Impact of Vacation Bible

School

The week of June 19 through 23, I watched, with complete amazement, how Vacation Bible School was run and administered! Not that it could be done, but that that is was done so well!!! The countless hours of planning and recruiting, asking for donations, the need for volunteers and how well the church responded AND how the Youth Ministry responded to the 140 participants, was incredible!!

Let me begin the congratulations with recognizing Kelly Vath, Courtney Rich, Tonya Baker and Sheila Shea. This is the team that put it all together. Their efforts in making this flow so seamlessly were seen each and every day. Well done, Children’s Ministry Team!!!

The adult volunteers came in each day with enthusiasm, high energy and sense of purpose that began with the leadership of VBS and was felt throughout the church all week.

Then the Youth Ministry took over from there each day. The young adults, some of them not even attending our church, stepped in each day and made each child feel individually cared for. Wes and Carrie are leading these young adults and teaching them to be there when the community, our family, needs their help; and they responded in a wonderful and blessed way. VBS would not be as effective without these amazing young adults!!! Well done Youth Ministry!!!

Just about the time you think you have Jesus figured out, He throws you for a loop: with a word that’s not only hard to understand, but even harder to accept. So what are we to do when we run across these hard sayings? Ignore them? Blow them off ? Or can they reveal some deeper truth after we have wrestled with them? Join us this summer as we look at a few of Jesus’ most infamous and enigmatic statements, allowing them to shed new light on this Man who defies being easily dismissed.

July 1/2 Camels & Needles - Mark 10:17-31

July 8/9 Jots & Tittles - Matthew 5:17-20

July 15/16 When A Tower Falls - John 2:15-21

Sunday Mornings This time is used to teach 6th-12th grade students how to read the Bible in a relevant way that helps them connect with God and each other.

9:00 am: Book of Psalms 10:30 am: Middle School and High School split into different rooms for their respective studies. ~Middle School is doing an Inductive Study on Philippians—Learning to be Like Christ; ~High School: The Dare

Inductive Study on Philippians: Do you want to learn how to become more like Christ? Join us as we gather in ―The Lodge‖ each week to take an in-depth look at the book of Philippians.

The Dare: ―I DARE YOU! In this moment, I challenge you to become something you have always wanted, but only dreamed about.‖ This devotional shows readers how to do this in the power of God each week. We'll be going through, step by step, this amazingly practical, engaging and relevant book for High School students each week in our new fun space called "The Cabin.‖

Youth Group—Sundays 6 to 8 pm

Connect with us! Each gathering includes a fun and creative game, a segment of worship and prayer, and either a relevant message/video or small group discussions. Plus, you’ll get the occasional free food! You won’t want to miss the fun, so come and join us. Specifically, July will include two large group nights (July 9 and 23) with our high school and middle school students and a message from both Carrie and Wes.

Summer is a great opportunity to invite friends to youth group, so don’t miss out.

Please note, NO YOUTH GROUP on: July 2

like us at Family in Christ - LIFT Student Ministries.

July is an incredibly busy month for LIFT ministries. During the summer months, we gather on Sunday from 6-8 pm. Due to holidays and the many events taking place in July as a youth group, we will only have two large group gatherings at church: July 9 and July 23. There is no youth group on July 2, 16, or 30; there will be a mission trip meeting on July 16 if you are a part of the mission team.

In addition, there will be a Water World Fun Day on July 19 (see the article for details). From July 10-15, 20 students will be attending the Lead to Cause Conference held at Colorado Christian University. From July 28-August 4, 21 students will be participating on the mission trip to Klagetoh, Arizona. Pray for these trips, the students, the communities we reach, and for God to be made known. Don’t want to miss out, so make sure you know what is happening. Contact Wes, Carrie, or T.O.M. if you are looking for more information or have any questions about anything.

Water World Fun Day What: A fun gathering and opportunity to spend the day with your youth group friends at LIFT. It is the perfect opportunity to invite any friends who haven’t attended youth group yet, but would be willing to come to Water World.

Bring: Money for food/a packed lunch, sunscreen, towel, sunglasses, and a water bottle. Sandals that stay on are a good idea, too. Who: Any 6th-12th-grade student is welcome! Invite and bring any friends who may be interested. When: July 19 Time: Meet at church at 9:30. Pick up at Water World at 6:00 or sooner if needed Where: Water World 8801 N. Pecos Street, Federal Heights RSVP: Please inform Carrie or Wes by Sunday, July 16 if you plan to attend.

Epic Hero The boys’ retreat was an amazing experience! We learned about how we can chase our lions down for Christ... and played a little bit of paintball.

Sundays 10:30 am

Join us for our Deep Blue curriculum. Children will get to know Christ and the Bible through fun games, crafts and group learning activities. Classroom ages are:

Pre-school — 3 and 4 year olds Age 5 and Kindergarteners

1st and 2nd graders 3rd, 4th and 5th graders

Sundays 9:00 am Instead of a more traditional Sunday school class, W.O.W. teaches Bible messages in a new and action-driven way in a group setting. This is a great option to keep your kids engaged if you attend worship and/or an adult class during both hours. Instead of children doing the same Sunday school class twice at 9 and 10:30, they will get two completely different lessons and settings! This gives you, the parents, an opportunity to worship at 9 and participate in M.O.R.E at 10:30! WIN!!

If you have questions or wish to volunteer, please visit our Children’s Information Desk or email us at [email protected].

Story Time On The P.E.A.K. Tuesdays, 9:30—10:15 am

The “Bin” Schedule

Collection bins are available at the East and West entrances as an opportunity to help with ongoing ministries. Here’s the rotation:

1st weekend: Growing Home Ministry, serves homeless families or those at risk of becoming homeless. Bring non-perishable food items, diapers, etc. to be distributed through their food pantry. It’s generally our Communion Sunday, so let that be your monthly reminder to bring food for others as we received God’s special nourishment.

2nd weekend: Breaking Free, sponsored by our Youth, addresses the needs of those living on the streets. Bring new socks for men, individually packaged snacks, winter gloves, hats, disposable water bottles, deodorant, bungee cords.

Storage space is limited at our church, so thank you for adhering to this schedule AND for your ongoing generosity.

Stretch & Strengthening Join us every Tuesday from 6:30 — 7:30 pm at Family in Christ. These stretching activities help you increase your flexibility, improve your balance and breathing, and to relax. It's also a lot of fun and FREE!

Quilt Ministry Join us at Family in Christ, room 159 on the west side of the church, from 10 am - 3 pm on the third Friday of the month. Help construct simple quilts to be donated to women and children in crisis. Come for just an hour or two or the whole day. With notice, childcare can be arranged.

Questions? Call Cheryl Holliday (303-438-9081). Upcoming dates: July 21, August 18

Doing Life Together

Let’s Pray Together

The Sanctuary is open on Tuesday evenings between 4 and 6 pm for you to spend some quiet time with God in His house. Come for 10 minutes; come for as long as you wish. This is not a formal service, so just come as your are. Please keep Tony Schenk in your prayers, as he takes a much deserved summer sabbatical. In addition to some vacation time with his family, Tony will be an instructor at a Torchbearers Leadership School in Austria. Pray that God will keep him safe and will replenish his soul during this time away. He'll be returning to Family in Christ in mid-August.

A request from our Youth Leadership:

Parents/Adults, we need your help in prayer for the month of July. As you can tell from our calendar there is a lot going on between youth groups, Lead the Cause, Water World Fun Day, and our Mission Trip. For our mission trip this summer, the youth are going to a Navajo Reservation in Klagetoh, Arizona. Please pick up a prayer card sitting on the youth ministry counter to add to your refrigerator.

In addition, continue to pray for your child and our youth as we move forward in advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for all you do in your child’s life. You play a vital role in developing them into the beautiful child of God He has created them to be.

Looking for a community of mothers with young children? A place to experience authentic community, mothering support, personal growth and spiritual hope, all to help you be the best mom possible? Come to MOPS! MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers (birth through kindergarten).

We meet twice a month from September to May to listen to great speakers, have good discussions, support each other, and relax while our children enjoy our terrific childcare. Join us the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 9:00 to 11:30 am; childcare opens at 8:45. Our first meeting this fall will be September 7. For more details, go to: www.familyinchrist.com/mops/

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. Luke 4:18-19

What do you long for? What is the thing that your heart craves? Is it possible that your deepest desire is to be free? Free from worry. Free from feeling stuck. Free from hustling to be loved.

Free from a heaviness you can’t put your finger on. Free from thinking you should be someone other than exactly who you are. At the core, maybe what we are all longing for is to be Free Indeed. Choosing freedom is a deeply spiritual act, one that our souls long for. That is why this year, we choose wild, unexpected freedom; the kind that brings more laughter and less worry, more contentment and less hustle. Freedom that is so contagious, the people around us are compelled toward their own liberation.

Each Elder is assigned a section of the alphabet that corresponds to the last names of the families and individuals

in our congregation. Please feel free to contact them; they are available to shepherd and encourage.
