School News March 2017 ___________________________________________________________________________ Chess News Hero of the final rounds of the LSCA Primary Schools' Chess League was Evan Watkins who won all his three games in the final three rounds held on Saturday 4 th March. Starting on that day, our team was lying in 8 th position (10 teams involved) and so, we were in danger of relegation from Division 1. In the first match we faced then league leaders, St. Conleth's "A" and wins by Evan Watkins and William Hackett dented our opponent’s ambitions with the 2 points easing our regelation worries. Our next match was against the eventual winners, St Mary's, Haddingon. Evan's victory here further eased our worries and ensured that there was going to be an intense and exciting climax to the competition with St Mary's now slightly ahead of St.Conleth's. In the final match of the day, we faced Scoil Bhride "A" (who finished 3 rd ). A quick win by Evan ensured that we retained status. William got a draw. Despite having to face the leading teams on the day, our lads rose to the occasion and finally finished in 6 th position- a significant improvement on our starting position. Football Report by Ian Crampton

Monday 27th March 2017 will last in the memory of this year’s 6th Class boys. Some of the boys took part in the National SPAR FAI 5 A-Side Soccer first round. The venue was the FAI Complex at the National Sports Campus, Abbotstown. The weather was a glorious sunny morning and the boys were in a confident mood. They won their first match 1 - 0 after having a goal disallowed. The team played six matches in total recording 2 wins , 3 draws and 1 loss. The other teams in their qualifying group were Howth National School, St Finian's N.S. Finglas and St Francis of Assisi Balgriffin. St Francis went onto be the winners of the North Dublin Section on the day and we wish them all the best in the next round. This was a well run competition and the boys certainty did the school proud. The panel of eight players was Simon Coffey, Matthew Clarke, Sacha Yacine, William Hackett, Conor Reid, Alex Moore, Josh Moore and Daniel Crampton (GK). Special mention of two of the goals scored, William Hackett with a "Long Range Rocket" and Simon Coffey with a "Cheeky Chappie Chip". This was a great sporting day out for the boys and they made new friends with an impromptu challenge match against St George's N.S. Balbriggan.
