And what does that mean?

• Promote student mental health and well being

• Support early identification and intervention of mental health and

addictions

• Build a continuum of care plan within schools and communities

• Coordinate, collaborate and engage stakeholders across Ministries,

community agencies, police and with people at all levels of these

organizations to create successful student results.

• Coordinate school and District staff in their work as they develop,

implement and adjust support plans for children and youth with mental

health and/or addictions.

• Consult and build capacity in school teams and assist in planning next

steps in mental health and substance abuse treatment.

• Access services across Ministries, community agencies, and the police in

a timely manner to improve outcomes for students.

• Leading member of the District Critical Incident Response Team and

participate in Violence and Threat Risk Assessments (VTRA) when

requested.

• And much, much, more.

Some of Ester’s Achievements:

• Chair of the Mount Sentinel PAC.

• Volunteered in various schools and districts for 22 years.

• Ester has held many volunteer positions: president (7 times

up & to 5 years in one setting), vice president (3 times),

membership director (2 times), bingo coordinator, public

library trustee, hall rental director, PAC chair (2 times with 2

years each), PAC vice chair (2 times within 5 years), PAC

treasurer among many other roles.

• Many overlapping positions – would add up to volunteering

for more than 54 years!

• One person can make a difference!

What does that mean?

• Plans and implements regular school safety drills including

lockdowns and hold and secure

• Works in collaboration with district schools to conduct VTRA

assessments and assist in the development of response plans

• Regularly reviews the Community VTRA Protocol and liaises with

signatory partners

• Collaborates closely with the community police liaison officers

NCP and RCMP

• Coordinates program-related staff (and parent!) development.

• Makes classroom presentations on program-related topics in

coordination with instructional staff.

• Involves parents and community as “on-site” advocates in the

schools.

• Assists the administrative staff with security concerns.

• And lots of other things!

Organizational Excellence

• Board of Education has almost completed updating and reviewing

all policies (on website)

– Distributed Learning to be completed this Fall

• The Board will complete an updated Facilities Plan this year

visiting all FoS (Families of Schools)

• Realigned Finance Department – more training for our clerical

• New Point of Sale machines – parents/families can now pay using

credit cards for field trips etc.

• Review of transportation routes and bus catchment areas

• Second year of Technology overhaul – we are getting there.

• With all of this – thank you for your patience.

• Wildflower - Asbestos abatement –

flooring replacement

• Erickson – flooring replacement in 2

classrooms

• LVR – flooring replacement in 2

classrooms

• LVR dust collector replacement –

expected completion early October

Major Capital Projects (ongoing)

• ARES – renovate lower floor to create new learning space

• Brent Kennedy – Water Treatment Plant – expecting permit from

IH within 2 weeks

• Blewett – review and upgrade of existing water filtration system

• Trafalgar – replacement of 4 boilers – no heat - hoping for a month

of good weather

• Salmo Elementary – replacement of a MUA unit (make up air) – will

be cool air coming from registers but will be able to maintain room

temp with radiators – will feel drafty

• South Nelson – replacement of 2 MUA units – will be able to

maintain room temp with radiators but with overhead air delivery

will have cool drafts

• PCSS – new hoist for auto shop
