Breanna Mahoney in Ottawa NNEC Student Breanna Mahoney recently travelled to Ottawa as part of the Youth in Office program. The highlights of her trip were being able to spend some time job shadowing Central Nova MP Sean Fraser and the chance to meet Canadian Prime Minister, the Hon. Justin Trudeau. The trip was not only interesting and educational, but life changing for Breanna.

Sports Report NNEC Brings Home Provincial Title The weekend of June 3rd to 5th was one to remember at NNEC. NNEC students travelled throughout the province to Provincial Championship events. NNEC won the title for Girls Fast Pitch, Boys Rugby & Intermediate Boys Track & Field. Congratulations to all who participated.

Pictured above NNEC student Clare Henderson, piping in athletes at opening ceremonies at NSSAF Track and Field Provincials.

Kelyn Palmer, Girls Fast Pitch – grade 12 student in her third year with the NNEC girls fast pitch team. She has played an integral part in the team dynamics; she is a team leader and leads by example

for the younger players while maintaining a sportsmanlike demeanor with other teams she faces. She has dominated on the mound with her pitching and has earned many runs batted in as well. Kelyn is known throughout the province for her pitching prowess and her quiet strength has earned her this Athlete of the Month recognition.

Kaelan Schmidt, Track & Field - grade 12. Kaelan is a gifted athlete and excels at the "jumping" events at track. He leads by example and has been an asset to his team and coaching staff. Kaelan had an

unbelievable finish to his senior year in high school by becoming the Provincial champion in High Jump and Triple Jump. He also fin-ished as the silver medalist in the long jump.

Remembering Adam Over the weekend the NNEC Gryphons Rugby team brought home the Division 1 Boys Rugby Provincial Banner. In the semi-finals the gryphons defeated NRHS 12-6. The Gryphon Boys dedicated their final game to the memory of NNEC student Adam J’ij Paul. During this game they de-feated Sir John A. MacDonald 21-5 and won the championship. Pictured here: Adam & Shannon Paul (Adam J’ij’s parents) accepting Adam’s provincial championship medal . The med-al was presented by Graduate and Rugby player JC MacRae. The guitar purchased through donations to the school’s music program in memory of

Adam J’ij Paul can be seen in the background. NNEC remembers Adam’s love of music and misses the sound of his guitar drifting through the halls. Adam’s memorial guitar is available for use through the main office.

May was a busy month for the NNEC Music Program! A big thank you to all those who made the “All That Jazz” event a success! Students performed like professionals and all in attendance had a great time. Also, a big thank you goes out to all who contributed to, and attended, this year’s band and choir trip. Many hours went into the preparation for this year’s trip, and it was a great three days. The bands and choirs represented NNEC to the highest standard while they performed concerts, partici-pated in several activities and made their trip to Sydney one to remember!

Congratulations to all who participated in this year’s regional music festival and those who were chosen to represent New Glasgow at the Nova Scotia Provincial Festival. Luke Henderson, Jesse Hemmings, and Lucas March were amongst the few selected to attend Provin-cials. Congratulations to the NNEC Jazz Choir for their first place victory at this year’s Provincial Music Festival! The Junior Cup and Rose Bowl both went to students from NNEC this year! Way to represent, Jesse Hemmings

(Junior Cup recipient) and Luke Henderson (Rose Bowl recipient)! Every-one’s hard work contrib-uted to the high standard exemplified at the New Glasgow Music Festival and the Nova Scotia Pro-vincial Festival. Way to go musicians!

Rules and Procedures for Writing Examinations Students may not leave the gymnasium while the exam is in progress. Please plan ahead by bringing Kleenex, going to the bathroom before the exam begins, etc.

Students must remain in the examination area at least one hour and thirty minutes, at which time if they choose to leave they must put their hand up and wait for the teacher to come to their desk to take the exam. After the exam is passed in the students are not permitted to return to

the examination room. Students must either vacate the building or proceed to the cafeteria in order to minimize the noise level in the hallways. This is out of courtesy for those still writing an exam.

All subject notes, kitbags, jackets, school bags, cell phones, lap tops, purses, binders, ipods, mp3 players, and any other item requested by the supervising teacher must be left at the front of the gymnasium and can be claimed upon leaving only after the exam has been handed in to the proctor. Students are reminded not to leave wallets or valuables unattended at any time.

Students may not communicate in any manner with anyone except proctors or teachers from the time your examination begins until your completed examination has been collected by a proctor.

You may not bring any food or drink into the examination room. As always, water is permitted.
