Zebra ConfidentialSAP and ZebraPresenterDateThe right asset. In the right place. At the right time.1SAP AgendaWhy SAP?Sharing TechnologyForms (label) Printing from SAPMobility and SAPRFID and SAPInternational Printing (Unicode)Questions and Answers

The right asset. In the right place. At the right time.2Why focus on SAP?SAP AG worlds largest maker of Business Application SoftwareMore Zebras connected to SAP Software versus any other business application+=

3SAP is the worlds major ERP VendorMicrosoft own the office world but SAP own the process and transaction world. SAP has a very large market share We get asked one question a month on BAAN or JD Edwards/PeopleSoft etc. We even get very few questions on Oracle. We get many more questions on SAP! Put it into perspective!!!!

Animation - Click the button. The reason why we focus on SAP is Revenue. Out customer are using SAP, SAP and SAP!

Smaller customers are also beginning to use SAP (not just the big enterprises any more)

If you want revenue, You MUST be able to sell to SAP customer

Long Term Relationship1999 Zebra becomes SAP Certified Software Partner Zebra launches BAR-ONE for SAP R/32003 Zebra licenses Barcode Rendering Technology to SAP for use with SmartForms Adobe develops ZPL driver for interactive forms2004SAP release Zebra drivers for SmartFormsSAP release interactive forms with ZPL Drivers SAP and Zebra co-develop XML support for RFID Printers with Auto ID infrastructure SAP begins joint marketing with Zebra (AII/RFID)SAP and Zebra jointly support Unicode for output2005SAP develop CPCL driver for mobile infrastructure 2007ZebraDesigner for mySAP Business Suite

4Working closely with SAP since 1999

In the old days it was simple Traditional ZPL mid range / high end printers being driven via BAR-One for R/3 or BAR-ONE for MySAP (Same Thing)

Now we lot lots of printers / solutions.

After 4 years we started to share technology. In 2003 the relationship became special!!

You will see why shortly!SAP and Zebrashare TechnologySAP License Zebra Code!Barcode rendering librariesDirect from ZPL firmware!Embedded in the SAP Kernel!SAP (SmartForms) can now render barcodes for:SAP print previewPCL, Postscript and Adobe PDFWindows driversEverybody benefits!

5This is when the relationship became special!

SAP Approached Zebra and asked us how would could help them implement barcoding properly within R/3 (MySAP)

SAP wanted to be able to render (draw) barcodes on the screen for Print Preview, they wanted to be able to print barcodes out on laser printers, for invoices and delivery notes, without having to install special fonts or add-on cards.

SAP also wanted to be able to render these barcodes in portable documents (Adobe Acrobat PDF documents)

So we took the firmware from the printer, the C code, and we made what we call a barcode rendering library. We licensed this library to SAP and the embedded it into the heart (the kernel) of R/3!

Zebras barcode technology enables SAP R/3 to support true barcoding!

Forms (label) Printing from mySAP - 2 options!SAPscript (legacy)Upload methodZebraDesigner for mySAP Business SuiteSmartForms (new)ZPL + BRLTotal solution provided by SAP!

6When we think about barcode print from SAP we currently have two proven choices. SAPScript (pretty legacy and obsolete with limited support) or SmartFormsDesign label format in ZebraDesigner for mySAP Business SuiteUpload format to mySAPInstall mySAP Zebradevice driver and CodepageCreate Print QueueProcess Printing TransactionLabels printZebraDesigner for mySAP Business SuiteFormerly BAR-ONE for R/3SAPscript based solutionUpload methodPrint direct from mySAP - no middlewareProven solution, 2000+ installsShipping for 6+ yearsPass through ASCII driverUnicode capability added 2005

7SAPscript We use ZebraDesigner for mySAP Business Suite as a tool to generate SAPscript / ZPL and then we give you the documentation on how to upload and send this from your SAP Form.

We believe that we have the best product, the best documentation, the most installs and the most experience but all of our competitors also have similar solutions for SAPscript. This is no longer black magic as it was in 2002! Everybody can make this work!ZebraDesigner for mySAP Business Suite

8Simple, mature well documented, Proven but no longer Unique!

Will continue to be around for a long time but we need to start selling the SmartForms solution as its Unique!SAP SmartFormsSAPs own form design and layout toolNormally used for printing formsSupports laser printers (PCL and Postscript)Mature - shipping for nearly 5 yearsNow supports ZPL and barcode rendering

9This is what most SAP end users are migrating to from SAPscript. Some companies are making it their policy to do everything new using SmartForms and avoiding SAPscript.

This is not new, it has been shipping since 2002 but SAP end users take time to change / migrate. The need to know that the solution is mature and mission critical because they rely on it for running their business.

Before we licensed the Barcode Library to SAP, SmartForms could not render barcodes. You had to purchase a barcode font for the printer and then kludge Smartforms to use this Font. This was very custom and complicated.

Smartforms is now very Good with barcodes!!

Why did Zebra share this technology with SAP?We did it because they agreed to give us a true native Smartforms driver that fully supports ZPL. This means you can take a form designed for a laser printer and print it directly on a Zebra printer (or vice versa)

Smartforms now supports barcode printers and guess what the language is! (ZPL, ZPL and ZPL)

SAP SmartForms10SAP recommends that customer use SmartForms / switch to SmartForms. Zebra also recommend Smartforms!

ZPL is now up there with PCL and Postscript. ZPL is the only barcode printer language that SmartForms will every support! (Fact)

How do we know this? (Because development is now frozen and they are working on their third generation Forms technology) No more drivers are being developed for SmartForms.

ZPL is the barcode printer language of choice for SAP end users! How should I drivebarcode printers from SAP?What version of SAP do you use?How do you print your existing forms on laser printers today?SAPscript or SmartFormsWhat other barcode printers are competing for this business?Datamax and IntermecWhat languages do you need to print?

11VersionAnything older that 4.6c cant support SmartForms but 4.6c is very old and nearly all customers, these days, will be using 4.6c or better.

Existing ExpertiseThe customer has done laser prints and forms printing a long time before they looked at barcodes. How did they do this? What in-house expertise do they have? Did they use consultants do to their forms layouts / configuration? They can use this same expertise.

CompetitionIf we have competition then we must push SmartForms. Nobody else has a native SmartForms driver! We need to persuade the end user that they need to be using proper drivers and supported technology

UnicodeIf the customer requires printing languages other than western European then they should select SmartForms! It can be done with SApscript but its much easier with SmartForms. How should I drivebarcode printers from SAP?Use what you use for your forms and laser printersMaximise existing staff expertiseMaximise existing SAP software licensesAvoid middlewareUnicode blocks the competitionSmartForms blocks the competition

12If you have competition then sing the SmartForms song!Even competitors that claim to do ZPL emulation will have problems, especially with , performance, graphics, fonts and Unicode.

Zebra loves SAP

Zebra loves SmartForms

ZPL is SAPs chosen barcode printer language. No other printer language is currently planned to be supported, even in future 3rd generation forms technologies that we will see in the future.

SAP can't support every barcode printer language so it has chosen the leader!

You dont need to be an SAP specialist to sell to SAP end users. Zebra will provide the end user with the documentation and they will be able to do the software part themselves.

Our Dream SAP customer is a customer that uses Smartforms and needs Unicode We love SAP!!!!

Design / InterfaceQuestionsAll logos and trade marks are the property of their respective ownersThe right asset. In the right place. At the right time.13So, what we have been talking about is how to Design Labels Using SAPScript USE BAR-ONE for MySAP and then print direct from MySAP ERP

Alternatively use SmartForms to design and print your labels.

The only thing that you need to remember is that ZPL is SAPs chosen barcode printer language You can use any barcode printer with SAP as long as it begins with Z!!!

Mobile and SAP

The right asset. In the right place. At the right time.14Now we have new printers to support in the SAP world, not just Desktop, Midrange and Tabletop!Mobile in the SAP world!Out in the field (receipts and labels)In the warehouse (labels)

15When we think about mobile printers we need to distinguish between the Warehouse and out in the field:

In the Enterprise or Beyond the Enterprise

Are we talking Always on 802.11b/g (In the Enterprise) or are we talking about being connected via Bluetooth (Beyond the enterprise).SAP Mobile Infrastructure (MI)New module from SAP for PDTsField based activities, out in the field!Common applications:Field force automation (receipt)Direct store delivery etc. (receipt)Mobile asset management (label)RW 420 and RW 220 - designed for this!Cadbury, Spain install completed

16SAP now want to sell more incremental software licenses and they see the Mobile explosion as a great opportunity. They have sold licenses to all of the PCs in the enterprise now they need to find new devices to sell licenses for!

Enabling the Field Force worker is now SAPs new message. SAP is trying to speed up the adoption of such technology in the field by developing applications that enable common business transaction for applications such as Direct Store Deliver (DSD) and integrate these with the ERP system.

FFA is where the big money is in the mobile world

SAP actually got a company called ABACO to develop the client software that runs on CE/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile (devices such as Motorola PDTs)SAP Mobile Infrastructure (MI)Supports CPCLPDT uses GPRS or GSM for ERP connectivityRegular synchronisation back to basePrinter uses Bluetooth to connect to the PDT

17Abaco developed Zebra CPCL drivers for our mobile printers. Note these are not ZPL, this has nothing to do with SAPscript or SmartForms. The printing is done from the mobile client software.

DSD/Field Force Application. The Printer is connected to the PDT via Bluetooth and the Terminal normally Syncs with the back office (enterprise) every 15 minutes via 2.5 or 3G.

Its in our interest to tell SAP customers about MI! We want them to empower their mobile workers (Field based personnel)

18An Example of DSD (Direct Store Delivery)

19An example of FFA (field Force Automation. Empowering the mobile worker!

We are talking about improving productivity, increasing flexibility and improving quality with clear printer receipts!SAP Warehouse (WMS/LES)SAP console for DOS terminalsSAP web console for CE/Pocket PC terminalsMiddleware is also used in this spaceApplicationsPut-away labels, shipping labels, bulk breakdown etc.Traditionally mid-range barcode label printer

20There is also an opportunity to employ mobile printers in the warehouse. PDTs have long been employed here but printing would have typically been via a fixed printer such as the printer shown.

Lets talk a little about how you make PDTs work with MySAP ERP. This is really simple, you run a Telnet client (DOS Terminals) or a Web Browser (Graphical Terminals). You just need to make sure that the Transaction screen size has been designed for the terminal form factor rather than a full size PC screen. Its exactly the same thing that would run on the PC that runs on the terminal. The point is anybody that can do site surveys and implement wireless infrastructure can do Data collection from SAP, its that easy.

Printing in the warehouse is SAPscript or Smartforms. This means that you must use ZPL printers!SAP Warehouse (WMS/LES)Big opportunity is for mobilising the warehouseWarehouse business improvement802.11g infrastructure mode - always onNetwork (802.11g) wireless mobile printerQL 420 Plus is the perfect partner

21So we run ZPL emulation on mobile printers. We have the printer on our belt. Whats the advantage?

We print the label on demand at the point of application, this means we get the correct label on the correct product (increase Quality)

We also have no walk time to the fixed printer! (Increase productivity and flexibility reducing cost)

This is classic Improve Quality Decrease Cost

You also could use cart mounted printers for higher volume printing. Also consider Zebras new wireless Print Server that supports up to 4 printers on a cart!

22An example of a warehouse worker printing a label where and when they need it

Imagine the time wasted if they had to go and get the label. Imagine the chance of getting the wrong label!

23The printer can also be mounted on Fork Lift Trucks.

MobileQuestionsAll logos and trade marks are the property of their respective ownersThe right asset. In the right place. At the right time.24Beyond The enterprise / Out in the Field is where the money is. This is the next big thing. SAP are chasing it with MI.

We also have a great opportunity to increase productivity, flexibility and quality in the warehouse via the QL420 or Cart Mounted printers.

You need to sell the benefits of mobile printers!RFID and SAP

The right asset. In the right place. At the right time.25What is Auto-ID Infrastructure?SAPs RFID software offeringData collection softwareConverts raw RFID data into actionable business informationBuilt on NetWeaverXML interfaceTwo versionsProfessional - integrates with mySAP ERPStandalone - slap and ship

SAP and RFID26SAP jumped on the RFID bandwagon in 2003/2004. Due to our special relationship, they asked us how best to do printing from their RFID software.

Now this software is not their ERP system, its not MySAP ERP. The software is called AII (Auto-ID Infrastructure)

This software is all about collecting data via RFID, its not about encoding / printing. We advised them that the best way of talking to our printers would be via XML. This means we store the form designs/layouts inside the printer and all they send is the name of the form and the associated variable data (EPC etc).

XML and RFID?SAP adopt XML for aII Direct ConnectNo middleware neededCertification processXML is a global industry standard for data exchangeSAP / Zebra jointly developed XML interface

SAP and RFID27SAP Loved this idea and implemented XML as standard.

XML is not Vendor or Printer Specific. This meant that SAP could go to all RFID Printer manufacturers and tell them that they must support the SAP style of XML, if they wish to be compatible with AII.

XML lends itself to certification!

Zebra Developed the standard. Zebra Leads they way with SAP and RFID (others try and follow)

RFIDQuestionsAll logos and trade marks are the property of their respective ownersSAP and RFID

The right asset. In the right place. At the right time.28It is also possible to do RFID from Smartforms (using ZPL Comamnds) or SAPscript (Via ZebraDeisgner for MySAP)Unicode and SAPThe right asset. In the right place. At the right time.29Unicode means International PrintingInternational Print Means anything other than Western European or North America.

International Printing from mySAP ERP (Unicode)Printing non-Western text such as Cyrillic, Central European, Eastern European, Middle-East and APAC is big problem with SmartForms and SAPscript

30If you need to print any of these languages direct from SAP then you have a BIG problem.

When I say big, I mean big, big, big problem. You CANT do it!

The only way of doing this is via Unicode or Downloading everything as a graphic via a Windows Drivers. Windows drivers are not viable options in the SAP World.

So You need to the SAP Unicode CodePageUnicode and SAPInternational printing from:SAPscript / ZebraDesigner for mySAP Business SuiteAndale APAC Worldtype fontEMEA preloaded Swiss 7216 single language APAC fontsAny other licensed TTFSmartFormsAndale APAC Worldtype fontEMEA preloaded Swiss 721

31Zebra printers ship out of the box ready with Unicode Fonts.

SAP and Zebra use the exact same Unicode fonts, We jointly designed our solution to work together. SmartForms works with Zebras preloaded Unicode font and also our optional APAC Unicode fonts.

We jointly designed the solutions from the group up to work together

You can make it work with SAPscript but it was not natively designed to do so. SmartForms was designed to work with Unicode and particularly Zebra Unicode!International Printing from mySAP ERP (Unicode)Zebra printers are preloaded with Western, Central and Eastern European languages also including Baltic, Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish, Hebrew and ArabicYou do not need 4.7 Enterprise to print using Unicodeany version

32You can do Unicode printing from any version of SAP. You do not need a Unicode version of SAP

Unicode blocks the competition. Only the joint Zebra /SAP solution work out of the box and where designed as a solution and not a kludge / afterthought.
