Greetings to All,It’s just about time to tie a bow on 2014. With a ‘SF Giant’ smile on our face, we take a moment for a glimpse back at the past year in our small town and reflect on some of the things we all together helped make happen. From our vantage point, we saw 706 Campers playing and discovering at Camp KidMarin, 612 Youth Soccer Players trying their best and having fun all through the autumn, 331 picnic area reservations that represented celebrations of all kinds in our Town’s parks, 138 gymnastics birthday parties where kids bounced and tumbled with their good friends, and 14 spe-cial events attended by thousands of people, in-cluding some who took a zip line through the heart of downtown! It was a great year and we thank you for spending some of your time with us.

Fixing Up Our HouseAside from creating programming that meets the needs of our residents, the Recre-ation Department also works diligently to improve our aging facilities. We do so with a sharp eye on cost while striving for durability along with versatility in everything we build or buy. In the past two years we completed several projects. We renovated our main classroom, the Vista Room, and have replaced all of its furnishings. At Parkside Preschool, we’ve replaced the play structure, painted inside and out, made kitchen and plumbing upgrades, and installed a new entryway door and window that allows for enhanced security and also looks great!

In 2015, we have plans to make more important changes to our facilities. Trust us when we say that we realize far too well that our community recreational facilities could use some help. We will continue to do our best with the resources that we have to make things better, and we hope to one day realize the dream of building some-thing new that will serve our community for generations to come.

Dreams of Greater ThingsSpeaking of dreams, as many people know, the Town is in the process of finalizing a Community Facilities Master Plan (CFMP). This plan is being created with a great deal of community input, and we want to thank everyone who has offered their opinion through taking a survey, visiting a kiosk, stopping by an event or by attending a meet-ing. Everyone’s opinion is important and the plan will reflect the community’s input. We especially want to thank the members of the CFMP’s Community Advisory Commit-tee who serve as the leadership for the master planning effort. This group has spent many hours helping guide the community process and ensuring that as many voices as possible in the community get heard.

The Community Facilities Master Plan will be presented at the January 27th Town Council meeting.

Sincerely,The Staff at your San Anselmo Recreation Department

There is circle time with songs and rhymes and plenty of time for free play, which helps the young child to develop large motor skills through age appropriate activities. Parent participation is required for all Toddler Tumbling classes.

No class the week of 2/16, 3/23 4/13. We will hold classes on holidays. All prices listed as Non-resident/San Anselmo Resident.

Get the gray cells of the brain activated by learning Mah Jongg! Classes will begin by learning to play by the “Chinese Rules,” then progress to the “American“ version.

We will be learning the Official Standard Hands and Rules of National Mah Jongg League, Inc. You will be having fun, as you develop the skills needed to join other players, in this entertaining and challeng-ing game.

Caine Starelli has spent a lot of time in classrooms, teaching a variety of skills.

Passing along Mah Jongg skills, has been delightful. This game was popular in the 30’s and its recent “comeback,” is like “bringing his-tory alive”!

Town Council Meetings TelevisedThe Town Council meetings are now being videotaped and will be streamed live via our website beginning with the meeting of Tues-day, October 28, 2014 at 6 p.m. This means that you can watch the meeting on your computer as it is happening!

The live video can be found at http://www.townofsananselmo.org/index.aspx?nid=779, along with the staff reports for the meet-ing. After the meeting, the videos are available on the website and linked to the staff reports, so that you can choose a particular item, click on it, and see the video for just that item. The meetings are also televised on local cable channel 27 Sundays at 9 p.m.

If you have any questions or have difficulty using the system, please contact Carla Kacmar at [email protected] or (415) 258-4691.

Zero Waste MarinThanks to a grant from Zero Waste Marin, the Town has a supply of kitchen composters available for San Anselmo residents. The three gallon green composters are a great way to compost your kitchen food waste. Just fill the composter up with your food waste and empty it into your green can with the green waste when it is full.

The kitchen composters are available at Town Hall and they are free. Just stop by during our open hours, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. and pick one up.

Plastic Carryout Bag BanThe Town’s ordinance regulating the use of single use carryout bags went into effect on Thursday, October 9, 2014. San Anselmo’s ordi-nance defines “single use carryout bag” as a bag made of plastic, paper, or other material, that is provided by a store to a customer at the point of sale that is not a reusable bag. This does not include a “product bag” or a bag provided by a pharmacy when purchasing prescription medications.

Retailers that are subject to the ordinance include Walgreens, CVS, United Market, Safeway, Andronico’s, Bolinas Market, Quik and Easy, Red Hill 76 Circle K, and Andy’s BP. These retailers may not provide customers with plastic carryout bags, and must charge 10 cents for a recycled paper bag.

Please remember to bring your reusable bags when you go shopping!

5 Simple Steps to Finance Home ImprovementsThe Town Council recently approved the Town’s participation in the CaliforniaFIRST energy saving financing.

CaliforniaFIRST is an innovative partnership between your county government and a private fi-nancing company that allows you to receive upfront funding for energy efficiency, renewable energy and water efficiency improvements for your home or business -- and to repay through your property taxes over the course of up to 20 years. CaliforniaFIRST allows you to save money and energy -- benefitting both you and your community.

Through CaliforniaFIRST, you can make home improvements that save energy or water -- such as solar panels, new windows, insula-tion, energy-efficient furnaces or air conditioners, drip irrigation systems or artificial turf. You can download the complete list of home improvements you can finance with CaliforniaFIRST.

For more information, go to https://californiafirst.org/.

Pharmaceutical Return ProgramThe Central Marin Police Authority is participating in the Pharmaceu-tical Return Program. If you have prescription medications that are outdated or no longer needed, please don’t put them down the drain or throw them in the trash. Pharmaceuticals can be dropped off in the large green pharmaceutical return bins designed especially for this purpose, and are disposed of safely.

Pharmaceutical return bins are located in the following places:

• San Anselmo Town Hall Lobby, open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.

• Central Marin Police Authority, 250 Doherty Drive, Larkspur, open 24 hours/day.

Just follow these simple procedures to bring in your pharmaceuticals:

• Remove pills from containers and place in a Ziploc bag or small paper bag.

• Dispose of your own pill containers. Please do not bring the containers into a pharmacy.

• Liquids, ointments, lotions, etc. should remain in their original containers.

• Items accepted include prescription medications, all over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements, medicated ointments, lotions, creams, and oils, Liquid medication in leak-proof containers, empty inhalers, and pet medications.

• Items not accepted include controlled medications, IV bags, infectious waste, personal care products, empty pill contain-ers, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, full inhalers, needles and syringes.

Earthquake PreparednessThe Napa earthquake is a good reminder for all of us to ensure that we are prepared for an earthquake or any disaster. The Marin County Office of Emergency Services has a great website that walks you through the steps you can take to be prepared for an earthquake, as well as a flood or other disaster. Go to http://readymarin.org/ and check out the links on the right hand side of the page, scrolling down to the “Quick Links to Prepare.” The links give a step by step guide for disaster preparedness. Included in the links are:

• ReadyMarin Checklist Bundle

• Build a Kit

• Evacuation Backpack

• Grab & Go Checklist

• Emergency ID Card for Kids

There are also links on the website for training op-portunities. Check it out!
