About the book
Arcadia refers to a vision of pastoralism and
harmony with nature. The term is derived from the
Greek province of the same name which dates to
antiquity; the province‟s mountainous topography
and sparse population of pastoralists later caused
the word Arcadia to develop into a poetic byword
for an idyllic vision of unspoiled wilderness.
Arcadia is a poetic shaped space associated
with bountiful natural splendour and harmony. The
„Garden‟ is often inhabited by shepherds.
The concept is also figured in Renaissance
mythology. The inhabitants were often regarded as
having continued to live after the manner of the
Golden Age, without the pride and materialism that
corrupted other regions.
It is also sometimes referred to in English
poetry as Arcady. The inhabitants of this region
bear an obvious connection to the figure of the
noble savage, both being regarded as living close to
nature, uncorrupted by civilization and being
virtuous in its very appeal.

Dedication
The Non-killing and Non-violence paradigm for
universal Peace and Human Evolution is very well
complemented in Buddha‟s view of reverence to
life and by Sensei Daisaku Ikeda‟s thought!
“An ascending life, in which we keep striving
to grow and improve – this is what is meant by
human revolution. Human revolution doesn‟t mean
becoming something special or different from who
we are; it simply means striving to improve, no
matter what challenges we face.” – Daisaku Ikeda
Let me express my own sentiments as a very
modest and humble tribute to our combined human
consciousness so well propounded by Professor
Glenn D Paige in his work on Non-killing Global
Political Science and our enlightened endeavour to
achieve the next level of human evolution so well
articulated by Sensei Dr Daisaku Ikeda, to whom
this anthology is dedicated.

In these times of mindless terror,
killings, revenge and fight,
Ever thought of destitution,
sufferings and children in fright,
Let us pledge and rebuild, bonds,
bridges that divide and all the blight,
With the Almighty, Gandhi, King,
Mandela, Paige and Ikeda in sight,
In infinite reverence we owe to life,
let each one of us be the knight,
Mankind’s creativity to guide,
billions of us to advance and light,
Do not despair at the dread and those echoes,
but in our own conscience to be right,
Faith and prayer be with us, high time for Peace
Prosperity to be humanity’s delight,
Let we the billions work like the zillion of stars, in
the hope and humanity so bright,
Forever be our goal of Non-killing Peace, eternal
be the joy and triumph of his might

Foreword
By Francisco Gomes de Matos,
a Peace-Non-killing linguist, Co-founder, ABA Global Education, Recife, Brazil.
I was kindly asked to write a foreword for this
collection of poems which are inspiring at its very
concepts, principles and values expressed.
To Prof. (Dr.) Anoop Swarup for the pleasure
and privilege of reading his poems and to Mr.
Shivender Rahul‟s editing generosity – including
some of my humble poems – with gratitude I deeply
profess.
The poetry herein is often brief but compassionate
and
The poets’ words bring peace to the harm
caused by conflict and war
And wholeheartedly
and soulfully put spirituality to the fore

Preface
Dear Readers,
Can you imagine a world where there isn‟t any war?
No more bloodshed! No more disruption to people‟s
lives! Can you conceive circumstances whereby
weapons of mass destruction are no longer
necessary? No more threat of doom and
annihilation!
Saint Thiruvalluvar asserted:
“Non-killing in itself is the highest virtue, whereas
the taking of life will bring in its wake, all evil …”
I believe feat dharma means to follow the right
thing in life. Non-killing is the supreme religion.
This is the mother of all virtues. Non-killing is
considered as the centre from which a thread starts
and weaves a nice fabric. Lord Mahavira followed

xvi
the notion of non-killing throughout his life and
preached his disciples to follow the same. A non-
killing attitude will bring peace in the world. It
enables human to understand the situation better
and at the same time promotes fraternity among
people.
Global peace is a sentiment often expressed
these days, whether in prayers at the local church,
or as a toast at fashionable dinner parties. It is of
course a noble sentiment, and one that is worthy of
assertion at every opportunity. But in most cases, it
is only a sentiment, a philanthropic wish for the
good of everyone, yet without any concrete
solutions as to how it can be achieved or
inaugurated.
The fact is that world peace is not just some
desirable concept, wished for by the masses but
difficult to achieve in reality; world peace is the
normal standard of how things should be on an
everyday basis, and the way to achieve it is not very
far so to call it as out of reach.
I am grateful to Prof. (Dr.) Anoop Swarup for
assigning me the opportunity to translate his poems
from Hindi to English and to compile other poems
which enhance peace as its core theme.
