In Dewachen, Blissful pure realm of the west

Dwells Amitabha, whose Great Compassion was aroused:

His blessing took form as Padmasambhava,

Coming to this world to bring benefit to beings.

Your compassion is unceasing in helping beings.

To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen we pray.

Grant your blessing so all our wishes be

spontaneously fulfilled!

All the Dharma kings, from Trisong Detsen

Down to the very end of the royal line,

Throughout past, present and future know your constant

blessing.

You are the only protection for rulers who follow the Dharma,

as in Tibet,

Your compassion safeguards the lands that practice Dharma




Your wisdom body is now in the southwest, subjugating the

rakshasa demons,

Yet your compassion embraces sentient beings everywhere,

like Tibet

Magnificent guide for all sentient beings led astray by their

ignorance;

Skillfully you tame them with their turbulent emotions and

stubborn resistance.

Your compassion is unbroken in its kindness and its love.





Now, at the close of this degenerate dark age

Every morning and every evening, to those who have

devotion,

You come riding on the rays of the rising and the setting sun.

And on the tenth day of the waxing moon you come in

person.

Your compassion commands such great power to help

beings!




Now in this dark age, the age of conflict, last of the five-

hundred year eras,

Negative emotions and the five poisons grow more violent in

all sentient beings—

Emotions boil in rampant chaos, and the poisons dominate

our minds.

At a time like this, let your compassion be our refuge and

protection!

Your compassion leads those with devotion to the higher

realms.




When terrifying armies of oppression encircle us,

When the great centers of the Dharma lie in ruins,


With no trace of doubt or hesitation we pray:

O Guru Rinpoche, surrounded by your retinue of eight

classes of gods and demons,

You will repel aggressors and their armies –

of this we have no doubt.




When sickness strikes to destroy the fragile bodies of

sentient beings,

When diseases plunge us into unbearable suffering

and agony,


O Guru Rinpoche, embodiment of the Buddha of Medicine,

You will remove the obstacles that bring untimely death.




When nature turns against us and earth’s resources fail;

When sentient beings are tormented by the plague of

famine,


O Guru Rinpoche with all your Dakinis and Deities of

prosperity,

You will dispel all deprivation, all hunger and thirst —






When hidden treasures are revealed to benefit those

fortunate beings with a karmic link,

Like warriors, certain of the pure authenticity of our samaya,


O Guru Rinpoche, inseparable from our Yidam deity,

You will ensure the true heirs receive their father’s treasure –


To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen we pray..



When traveling through hidden lands, forests and

deserted places;

When our way is blocked and we are cut off by storms,

by rain and snow,


O Guru Rinpoche, surrounded by mighty local spirits,

You will lead us practitioners to the right path –





When vicious wild animals menace us: tigers, leopards,

bears and poisonous serpents

On our way through terrifying passes, wild and desolate

places,


O Guru Rinpoche, along with pawos, gings and protectors,

You will drive off these ferocious creatures –






When obstacles arise in earth, water, fire and air

To threaten these illusory bodies of ours with destruction,


O Guru Rinpoche, with the goddesses of the four elements,

You will harmonize the elements into their natural state –





When traveling on dangerous routes

We are attacked by murderous bandits and robbers,


O Guru Rinpoche, through your realization of the four

mudras.

You will dispel the terror of all brutality and greed.




When faced by killers on all sides,

Who threaten us with lethal weapons,


O Guru Rinpoche, the protection of your Vajra-tent,

Will cause killers to panic and weapons to be scattered.





When this life span is exhausted and we come to die,

Faced with the fearful pain of illness and the moment

before death,


O Guru Rinpoche, as you are the emanation of Amitabha,

It is certain we will be born in Dewachen’s pure realm.




Once this borrowed and illusory body is destroyed, and in

the bardo realm,

When our deluded experiences and our delusions about

them arise to make us suffer


O Guru Rinpoche, you who know the past, present and

future, through your compassion

You will let all delusion be self-liberated --of this we have

no doubt!




When we are overwhelmed by karma and circumstance

And suffer through grasping at delusion as real,

With no trace of doubt or hesitation we pray

O Guru Rinpoche, King of Great Bliss (Dewachen),

You will utterly destroy the delusions that bring suffering!





When beings of all six realms are tormented by immense

pain

And especially when our leaders and people are engulfed

in suffering,

With intense longing and devotion, from the depths of

our hearts,


O Guru Rinpoche, with your unchanging, unwavering

compassion – care for us!
