Salomon Gore-Tex® MaXi-Race: Exertion and emotion in extreme heat
Over the weekend, around 7500 runners from 46 countries took to the trails in the mountains around lake Annecy, with around 20,000 visitors to MaXi-‐Village and its 42 exhibitors promoting various outdoor sports brands and races. The heat and the glorious sunshine reigned throughout all the races of the Salomon Gore-‐Tex® MaXi-‐Race, and with the runners taking a well-‐deserved, refreshing dip in the lake, there was a true holiday atmosphere at plage d'Albigny. On Sunday morning, all the finishers, from races that had started either the previous day or on the morning itself, were happy to cross the finish line since despite all the recommendations, a lot of runners suffered dehydration and many were not able to finish. The public was there in force to cheer them on applaud their efforts. A great accomplishment for all the runners and the 500 volunteers on the ground! A successful first partnership with Salomon Gore-‐Tex®. Saturday 27 May Ultra-‐Race -‐ 110 km – 7000 m+ The French runners François D’Haene and Caroline Chaverot dominated the first Ultra-‐Race (110 km and 7000 m+). He finished in 4h04’40’’, just 2 minutes behind the winner Clément Molliet (4h02’27’’). In the ladies, the favourite, Wenrong Zheng of China, a young marathon-‐runner with a record of 2h32, was in the lead at the first two check points.
