Dear Parishioners, This weekend marks either the Third Sunday AFTER Easter or the Fourth Sunday OF Easter. Ah, well, you say tomAto, I say tomAHto. No matter what, the Easter season goes on, as do all major seasons in the liturgical year, for 40 days. This weekend brings us closer to a few more major feasts in the liturgical calendar. The first major feast will be the Ascension of Our Lord into Heaven. That would be Ascension THURSDAY and no other day. True, these days, it’s often celebrated on the following Sunday, but that is not something set in stone, even in the new calendar. That is followed by Pentecost Sunday, 10 days later. Then comes Trinity Sunday, which is followed by Corpus Christi. That particular feast also falls on a Thursday, the Thursday after Trinity. But again, it is often the case that it is celebrated liturgically on the following Sunday. In the new calendar, it MUST be celebrated that day. In the old calendar, it MAY be celebrated that day, but, then, as an External Solemnity. That means that, in the old calendar, Corpus Christi is, indeed celebrated on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday, but can also be celebrated again on the following Sunday. That is our tradition here. And we do a wonderfully solemn job of it. First Communicants are in the front of the procession followed by Our Lord in the monstrance. Well, I’m getting ahead of myself. This third/fourth Sunday, and all post-Easter Sundays, features the Gospel of John. The first readings in the OF for the Sundays after Easter come from the Acts of the Apostles. In the EF, Acts plays a prominent role only during the Easter Octave, and yet, not for the complete octave. I personally love the Acts of the Apostles. If one ever wants to get a good look t the life of the very early Church, Acts is the place to go. What a journey; to start with Acts and then proceed into the fascinating accounts of the Church Fathers. What a fascinating Church we have, my children and my friends. Dear Parishioners,

This weekend marks either the Third Sunday AFTER

Easter or the Fourth Sunday OF Easter. Ah, well, you

say tomAto, I say tomAHto. No matter what, the Easter season goes

on, as do all major seasons in the liturgical year, for 40 days.

This weekend brings us closer to a few more major feasts in the

liturgical calendar. The first major feast will be the Ascension of Our

Lord into Heaven. That would be Ascension THURSDAY and no

other day. True, these days, it’s often celebrated on the following

Sunday, but that is not something set in stone, even in the new

calendar. That is followed by Pentecost Sunday, 10 days later. Then

comes Trinity Sunday, which is followed by Corpus Christi. That

particular feast also falls on a Thursday, the Thursday after Trinity.

But again, it is often the case that it is celebrated liturgically on the

following Sunday. In the new calendar, it MUST be celebrated that

day. In the old calendar, it MAY be celebrated that day, but, then, as

an External Solemnity. That means that, in the old calendar, Corpus

Christi is, indeed celebrated on the Thursday following Trinity

Sunday, but can also be celebrated again on the following Sunday.

That is our tradition here. And we do a wonderfully solemn job of it.

First Communicants are in the front of the procession followed by

Our Lord in the monstrance.

Well, I’m getting ahead of myself. This third/fourth Sunday, and all

post-Easter Sundays, features the Gospel of John. The first readings

in the OF for the Sundays after Easter come from the Acts of the

Apostles. In the EF, Acts plays a prominent role only during the

Easter Octave, and yet, not for the complete octave.

I personally love the Acts of the Apostles. If one ever wants to get a

good look t the life of the very early Church, Acts is the place to go.

What a journey; to start with Acts and then proceed into the

fascinating accounts of the Church Fathers. What a fascinating

Church we have, my children and my friends.
