    The Word of the Lord

First Reading: Proverbs 8:22-31 God created Wisdom before he created the earth or the skies. This spirit stood beside God every day until the earth was complete, then "found delight in the people of the earth." This indicates that the spirit of wisdom was later personified by Jesus.

Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5 Paul says that we are now at peace with God through our faith in Jesus. We also hope to see the glory of God. This hope will not leave us disappointed because of the love God has shown in sending us the Holy Spirit.

Gospel: John 16:12-15 Jesus tells the disciples that when he leaves them, a Spirit will help guide them to the truth. This Spirit will announce what he hears from Jesus, rather than speaking on his own. Everything God has also belongs to Jesus, which is why those things announced by the Spirit will actually come from Jesus.

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This seems like the most appropriate way to begin reflecting on the Most Holy Trinity. Our belief in the Trinity separates us as Christians from all other religions in the world. Our belief in the Trinity is the foundation for everything else we profess as Catholics. “The Father is that which the Son is, the Son that which the Father is, the Father and Son that which the Holy Spirit is, i.e. by nature, one God.” (CC253) “Christians are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” (CC233) Prior to our Baptism, the celebrant asks for the threefold profession of faith from the parents and godparents. Children seven years of age or older and adults who are being Baptized, answer these questions on their own. Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth? Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord…? Do you believe in the Holy Spirit… ? We profess our faith at every Sunday Mass in the Nicene Creed. We are called not only to profess our faith in words, but to live out our faith each day of our lives. How do we live the faith that we profess? By loving! When we love, we unleash the power of the Holy Trinity in our lives and to those around us. God the Father is love. Jesus Christ the Son is love. God the Holy Spirit is love. The Trinity is eternal love.

Love is the reason why God created us! Love is the reason why Jesus saved us! Love is the reason why the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts and has been given to us. (Rom5:5). May blessing of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit descend upon us and remain with us always! Deacon Mike 2019 Vacation Bible School News!

Registrations for children to attend Vacation Bible School are now being accepted. Register online at www.sjanj.net under Religious Education / CCD / Vacation Bible School..

Bereavement Group There is a support group for those grieving the death of a loved one here at St. John the Apostle.
