Safran’s aerospace business covers the entire life cycle

of engines, propulsion systems and equipment for

both civil and military airplanes and helicopters: design,

production, sales, testing, maintenance, repair and

overhaul (MrO). Our systems and equipment are an

integral part of today’s leading aircraft, whether produced

in Europe, north America, Brazil, China, India or russia.

Through CFM International, for example, an equal joint

venture with GE, Safran powers nearly all single-aisle

commercial jets, including the Airbus A320 and Boeing

737 families with the best-selling CFM56. We are also

one of the world’s leading manufacturers of rocket

propulsion systems for launchers and missiles.

• Commercial aircraft engines (mainline jets with more than 100 seats, in partnership with GE)

• Helicopter turbine engines

• Landing gear

• Wheels and carbon brakes (mainline jets with more than 100 seats)

• Aircraft wiring

• Helicopter flight controls

Leap, tHe LateSt froM cfM InternatIonaLWith nearly 23,000 delivered to date, the CFM56 is the best selling engine in the history of aviation. A CFM56-powered aircraft takes off somewhere in the world every two seconds. The size of the maintenance market, spanning an installed base of engines on 9,500 aircraft, consolidates Safran’s business model by giving it a recurring income stream. The new LEAP engine, slated for certification in 2015, has already been selected to power the next generation of commercial jets – Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX, Comac C919 – thus echoing the success of the CFM56. While the LEAP features a number of technological innovations, it is still based on a proven architecture to guarantee operational reliability as well as optimized and predictable maintenance costs.

Green taXIInG and More eLectrIc aIrcraft tHe reVoLutIon IS under WaY Safran plays a pivotal role in the revolution in aircraft energy sources, with the traditional hydraulic and pneumatic systems being replaced by electrical systems in the upcoming generations of commercial jets. Safran masters the key technologies in airborne electrical systems needed to ensure this energy transition, as shown by the electric Green Taxiing System (eGTS).The electric Green Taxiing System, produced in partnership with Honeywell, uses electrical power generated by the plane’s auxiliary power unit (APU) to drive electric motors located in the wheels, allowing airplanes to taxi on the ground without using their jet engines. This is a major innovation that reduces operating costs and pollution, thereby considerably improving airlines’ operational and environmental performance. Safran has even acquired an Airbus A320 flying testbed to give us an unrivaled develop-ment platform for this program.

Already the world’s leading supplier of aircraft engines with the CFM56, Safran and GE are well positioned to duplicate this impressive success with the new LEAP, which will make its market entry in 2016. Safran is also playing a pivotal role in the development of «more electric» aircraft, through its advanced electrical systems and the electric green taxiing system.

Safran’s defense business spans optronics, avionics,

navigation, electronics and safety-critical software for both

civil and military applications. In the defense sector,

we offer advanced solutions for the digital battlefield,

including the FELIn soldier modernization program,

for which we are prime contractor.

Safran also offers custom-tailored modular solutions

for infantry forces, plus tactical drone systems. Our

technologies are featured on guided weapon systems,

leading to the development of the AASM, a new-

generation «smart» guided air-to-ground weapon. The

AASM adds a guidance kit and a range augmentation

kit to a standard bomb, transforming it into a fire & forget

missile.

identification, e-documents and detection. We are a world

leader in multibiometric identification technologies (finger-

print, iris, facial and vein recognition), and a major player

in smart cards and the detection of dangerous and illicit

substances using computed tomography technology.

These capabilities mean that Safran can meet the

fast-evolving security needs of people, businesses and

countries.

Deployed in over 100 countries, our secure ID documents,

devices and integrated systems enhance the security of

transportation and high-value sites around the world.

In India, we are playing a key role in the Aadhaar program,

which will assign a unique identification number to each

resident, providing doubly secure access (fingerprint and

iris recognition) to a wide range of social services and

benefits.

pHILantHropY and SponSorSHIpS refLect Safran’S core VaLueSSince 2005, Safran has supported more than 250 projects through our corporate philanthropy and social responsibility policy. All of these initiatives aim to meet two major challenges, namely social solidarity and equal opportunity, implemented either through Safran’s two foundations, or directly with the association involved. We also sponsor a major ocean racing team, and this program again reflects our corporate values and identity. In particular, the Safran Open 60 ocean racer illustrates our high-tech expertise and ability to build long-term partnerships. Skipper Marc Guillemot, the naval architects, shipyard and suppliers have established a long-term partnership centered on high performance. From the outset, this exciting project was enthusiastically supported by Safran employees, who contributed technologies, processes and methods to achieve a breakthrough in the history of boat sponsorships.

perforMance and reSponSIBILItYCultural diversity, a natural component of a global corporation, takes on a special dimension at Safran because of our inter-national partnerships and external growth operations. At the same time, our diversity-oriented human resources policy is consistent with our commitment to corporate citizenship. Actions reflecting this policy focus on young people, women, seniors and the disabled

Safran has made a strong commitment to equal opportunity

and diversity, considered an essential performance driver

that spurs emulation and innovation. We seek to set an

example in our relations with both employees and the

companies that are the Group’s operating arms.
