HMSS - Facial Protection
• “Ballistic Impact” test for aircrew
visors.
• Test involves firing a .22 calibre
Fragment Simulating Projectile
at the test visor.
• The test visor must survive 3 impacts
without penetration.

HMSS - Airblast / Ejection Protection Requirements
• HEA (both OHA and IHA) remains
structurally intact and on the head.
• Oxygen mask remains attached and
secured on the face.
• Oxygen hose remains attached and
undamaged such that oxygen supply is
maintained.
• Blast/Display Visor remains latched
down and covers the eyes, protecting
against direct exposure to the airstream.

HMSS - Thermal Blast Protection
• Airgap between Outer and Inner Shells.
• Two layers of visor with air gap in between.
• Inside surface of outer shell can reach high
temperatures.
• Inside surface of inner and liner remains at
tolerable temperatures.
