Saddle Butte Machine Gun Shoot

Saddle Butte Machine Gun Shoot!

May 14th & 15th

Probably the largest machine gun shoot on the west coast! Gates open at 8:00 am.

Shooting begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm. ARPC members have

free admission. People from Oregon, Washington, California and

Hawaii are expected to attend this year.

Vendors, who own machine guns, allow members of ARPC and the

general public to shoot their full auto guns simply by buying the

ammunition from them. Last year there were over 100 full auto guns

available to shoot ranging is sizes from .22 caliber to 20mm. This year an original WWII tank with it's .50 caliber machine gun will be

featured on Sunday. A variety of active targets are installed including 3 automobiles donated by B&R Auto Wrecking.

Every year we get larger and better and it takes a lot of volunteers to make this a safe and enjoyable event. Don't worry if you have little or no experience with Machine Guns we will teach you everything you

will need to know to help out. 44158

Anyone interested in helping, please contact Allen Eriksen at

[email protected] (weekends phone # 541-967-4005). Please include you full name, phone number and days volunteering to work.

Main Range Closure

Machine Gun Shoot with it's set up and tear down

requirements, the Main Range will be closed to members and guests from noon on Friday,

May 13 through 2PM Monday, May 16 (or until the clean up is completed). 6697 Please

call the office for availability prior to coming out to the range to shoot on Monday.

R.I.P. Chronograph

Latin: Requiescat in pace.

English: Rest in peace. Meaning: A short epitaph wishing eternal rest.

This is our wish for the CHRONOGRAPH. All of our attempts to improve and upgrade the chronograph for member's use have failed... shot, beaten, abused

and dead... again. Therefore, it has been removed from the Main Range. Please accept our condolences to the few individuals who actually used it properly.

ABC House Benefit Match

Albany Rifle and Pistol Club is proud to sponsor the

11th Annual ABC House Benefit Shooting Match Saturday, June 18.

In the past ten years of our involvement, the event organizers have raised

over $50,000 for this worthwhile cause! ABC House is a local child abuse assessment center serving children of Linn and Benton Counties ages newborn to 18 years old. It is a non-profit organization which provides a safe, child friendly environment where children who are suspected of having been abused or neglected can come to receive a neutral, objective, comprehensive assessment. Assessments may include a head to toe medical check up and/or an interview conducted by specially trained and experienced individuals. Families receive support and information to help their children begin the healing process. Please click on the attached link for an application or for further information

phone Doug Newquist at 541-401-7084.

Five Stand Shotgun Every Tuesday

Five Stand shotgun shooting is now scheduled from 2pm to 6pm every Tuesday afternoon. Mike McCarter and Jan Hase have offered to run Five Stand on an

interim basis to get it back up and running on a regular weekly schedule.

If you are a bird hunter or enjoy shooting at clay birds launched from various positions and angles, this is the sport for you. It

doesn't matter how well you shoot clay birds, just give it a try and have some fun. Open to members and non-members every

Tuesday afternoon at a special cost of $3 for a round of 25 birds. If you have any questions about this program or would like to become

the director please call the club office at 541-491-3755.

Famous Gun Quotes

Who made this famous gun quote below? Just for fun, find his name hidden in this issue!

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would

include their own government."

ARPC Continues to Grow

If you have been out to the club recently you might have noticed that ARPC's membership is growing at a rapid rate and the club is quite busy. The Executive Board at ARPC wants to make sure, whether you are

a Life Member or a New Member, that you have access to them to voice your concerns, questions or compliments about the club. All communications with the Executive Board should be directed to the

current club president, Steve Shippey, at [email protected] or 503-851-3158.

No one Executive Board member or staff person can promise to change, implement or modify something at the club (other than an immediate safety issues) without bringing it to the Executive Board for

discussion. Changes to the club properties, buildings or policies are decided on by the Executive Board first by making sure it is allowed in the club constitution and second if it is for the overall benefit of the club.

Executive Board meetings are open to the general membership and if you, a club member, want to

present a proposal at one of these meetings you must first contact the club office and have it added to the agenda.

Donald Engel Has Left The Range

We lost one of our life members this year, Donald Engel. If you knew him, please accept our condolences and best wishes for his family. He will be missed.

Want to be an Assistant Trap Director?

Do you love to shoot trap? Good with people? Like to help out your fellow shooters? Then we have the position for you!

Don Arnold has been the Trap Director for seven years and is looking for someone to

assist him with the growing group of trap enthusiasts. This position needs someone who is available Wednesdays from 12PM to 8PM. You don't have to be there every week, just

looking for someone willing to help out. If you have any questions or want to help, please call Don at 541-491-1014.

Dead Sheep - We Need Your Help

Just prior to the Easter weekend someone shot and killed a sheep on the property just north of the club. The rancher who farms this land and runs sheep on it contacted the club about the incident. Though he is extremely concerned, as a member of the club he also wanted to make it very clear that he did not blame

this shooting on a club member or visitor. The leadership of ARPC is asking anyone with information possibly related to this shooting to contact the club office as soon as possible. It is believed that the

shooting took place sometime on Thursday or Friday, April 21st or 22nd.

It is a logical conclusion to assume that someone from the gun club / shooting range might have

something to do with an animal found shot to death close to the shooting range.Whatever the outcome, we must get to the bottom of it.

Busy Summer at the Range

Be sure to check the club calendar often to see what is going on. We have added quite a few shooting and reloading classes to the schedule due to member's requests. Most classes have a minimal charge

and require pre-registration to attend.

A brand new class, Black Powder Cartridge Reloading is taking place Wednesday evening, May 11th at 7pm, North Range

Classroom. Take a look at the club calendar for specifics on this and other upcoming classes.

In addition, there are four large shooting events taking place in May, June, July and August. June 22nd through the 16th Albany

Rifle and Pistol Club will host the 29th Annual United States Practical Shooting Associations Area 1 Pistol Championships. This event draws over 300 competitors for 4½ days of handgun shooting and is open to members and the public to watch at no cost. Make sure you bring safety glasses and ear protection to

the range to watch the action.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found pile has been growing exponentially. The Executive Board will now hold these items for three months before disposing of them as they see fit. If you have lost or

misplaced something at the range, please come in to or call the office to pick it up RIGHT AWAY!
