Mark Twain, 1835-1910 American writer & Humorist Dear Parents & Friends, Tomorrow we will travel to Tuppal Station to engage in the Food and Fibre Festival. Hopefully it will be well attended over the weekend as a reward for the many hours of volunteer work that has been put in . The word on the street is that up to 400 buses will be bringing school students from all over the place, so it should be a fun day. Plans are underway to get the bore, irrigation and landscaping happening around the school. The new Church sign is in place and it is hoped that by next Autumn we will have some interesting landscaping to enhance the first impression of our school. We have been a construction site for a few years now since the renovation of the Church, however, things are moving forward. First Holy Communion The Sacrament of First Holy Communion will be held in our parish church this Sunday 19th October, 2014 at 10.15am. Many of our students are reading, serving and singing at this mass. Please keep the following students in your prayers; Dan Barnes, Liam Craig, Jack Gowty, Tayah Hollister and Mac Soule as they prepare for their first Eucharist. We ask that as many students as possible attend the 10:15am Mass to support the First Holy Communicants. We encourage families to attend if possible and if you are able please bring a plate for the cuppa afterwards which will be held in the hall. ADIDAS FUN RUN The parents support group has decided to run the Adidas school Fun Run fundraiser again this year. It will be held on Friday, 7th November. Please call into the school office if you would like another sponsorship booklet. We are getting close to this time so please encourage your child/children to fill out their sponsorship forms. Active After School The sporting activity this term is Tennis. It will begin Tuesday, 21st October from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Tuppal Food & Fibre Festival Big thank-you to the following families and staff for volunteering your services at the Festival. Kelly Baldwin, Sharon Bourne, Delma Sanderson, Corrina Grieves, Cathy Groutsch, Renea McCallum, Julie Cornish, Bev Babington and Andrea White. Our school is being paid $15.00 per hour worked, please make sure you register that you are from Sacred Heart, Tocumwal. NO CANTEEN TOMORROW As we will be attending the Tuppal Food & Fibre Festival tomorrow - Friday 17th October - There will be NO canteen at school. Celebrating Success Celebrating and rewarding achievement is a key part of Mathletics. So far this academic year, students at Sacred Heart Primary School have attempted and mastered* huge numbers of activities - each mapped to specific outcomes within the Australian Curricu- lum with a total of 203,240 points earned. Let me take a moment to celebrate some of our top achieving students…… Riley Bourne 90.91% Activities mastered Mac Soule 82.61% Activities mastered Skyla Griffin 94.87% Activities mastered * A score of over 85% indicates mastery of a particular strand. Of course , the Mathletics curriculum is only part of the story. The power of Live Mathletics to increase arithmetical automaticity is well documented - and with the addition of five additional levels this year, advanced concepts as algebraic relationships and logarithms are now included. Since the start of this year, students at our school have answered a staggering 1,999 quick fire questions. Total certificates awarded at Sacred Heart are: 23 Bronze 3 Silver 1 Gold ‘Jumpstart’ - Kindergarten 2015 Transition Dates Our ‘Jumpstart’ dates for this year are Fridays November 7th, November 14th, November 21st and November 28th. This program is designed to orientate those students beginning Kindergarten in 2015. Participants are asked to be at school at 9:30am and will need to be collected at lunchtime - 1:10pm. They will need to bring a snack for recess, a water bottle and a hat. If you have any queries re- garding the program, please contact the school office on 5874 2371. Pat Boake Principal
