EFFECT ON RURAL LIFE

Rural life basically those areas which are not developed and the villages those were more or less self-sufficient. The villages mainly cultivates crops and some part is given to the rubers as part of revenue. New land revenue settlement

The main motive of the British like any other imperial power was to collect revenue from land and that could not done without a proper system. The British to collect revenue and rule to Indian farmer they evaled different laws.

Permanent settlement

The permanent settlement was introduced by cornwallis in Bengal in 1793 the main prorision of the settlement were:

1. The zamindar were made the owaers of the land. They worked as the government in the land revenue.

2. The zamindar had to pay about 89% of the collected land revenue to the government.

Commercialisation of agriculture

By the mid-eighteenth century, the east India company had acquired territories in south India, Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, etc. These areas were rich in agriculture and possessed a flourishing trade in handicrafts. Impact of the colonial agrariam policy
