GENERAL

1. As this is an official Malaysian sport event, in the spirit of sportsmanship, we expect

all invited societies to only send Malaysian players.

BADMINTON

1. Basic rules of badminton apply

2. New rally points scoring system is used.

3. Singles (Men & Women)

(a) All players will be divided into a group of 4-5 players. There will be 8 groups in

total for the men’s singles and 4 groups for women singles.

(b) Each player will be playing 2 games in group stage.

(c) Playing time

Preliminary rounds – 10 minutes

(first player to reach 21 points or has the highest score at the end of 10

minutes is the winner)

Quarter-final – 15 minutes

Semi-final & Final - best of 3 games of 21 points

(d) Any player who won all the games in group stage will automatically qualify

into knockout stage i.e. last 16 (men) and quarter-final (women)

(e) The players who win once will be grouped together and ranked based on the

points’ difference from the previous matches. The number of players who will

proceed to the knockout stage will be determined by the number of places

available in the last 16(men), last 8(women)

(f) In knockout stage, players will be seeded based on the points’ difference.

Nevertheless, those who won twice will always be on top of those who won only

once.

4. Men’s double

(a) All participants will be divided into a group of 5-6 players. There will be 4

groups in total.

(b) Each pair will be playing twice in group stage

(c) Playing time

Preliminary rounds – 10 minutes

(first pair to reach 21 points or has the highest score at the end of 10

minutes is the winner)

Quarter-final – 15 minutes

Semi-final & Final - best of 3 games of 21 points

(d) The pair who finished first in the group will automatically qualify into quarter-

final.

(e) Those who finished 2nd in the group will have to play against the pair who

finished 3rd from other group to secure a place in quarter-final.

(f) In knockout stage, players will be ranked based on the points’ difference.

5. All teams are required to provide an umpire, referee and linesmen.

6. All teams are required to be punctual and register 10 minutes before the game (for

registration & warm up). Lateness will be strictly dealt with.

7. The Nottingham Sport Centre and NMS will provide sporting equipments/ facilities for

certain events which require us to do so; i.e. shuttlecocks for badminton. But it is the

responsibility of each participant to bring the necessary equipment/s to compete in

their respective events.

8. However, for training purpose, please bring your own shuttle cocks.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

1. Teams and players are expected to follow all rules and regulations. No physical or

verbal abuse allowed. Failure to do so will result in severe penalty, possibly

disqualification.

2. Referee’s decision must be respected. Head Official’s decision is final. Any appeals

shall be lodge towards the NMS main committee.

3. Matches will be played in the order scheduled. No requests for amendments will be

entertained, with exception to valid/reasonable cases.

4. Every team must be available for their game at least 10 minutes earlier before it

starts. Do note that no warm up time is given and each team is responsible of their own

warm ups.

5. Team which fails to provide 5 players when game starts are automatically disqualified

unless the Head Official is informed about it with acceptable reason beforehand.

6. Each team MUST provide at least 1 referee. Captains must ensure referee provided is

available for the match they are in charge. Failure to do so will result in 1 game score

reduction as much as 10 points.

7. Captains are advised to provide the Head Official their contact numbers at 8.50a.m. to

ease communications. Captains must be aware of any time changes and the Officials are

not responsible if the captains are not informed.

8. Nottingham Malaysian Games committee reserves the rights to alter any of the rules

and regulations at any given time to ensure the smooth running of the tournament

9. Standard rules of basketball apply except for the amendments mentioned in the next

section.

Tournament Format

I. Players that registered during registration shall play for the whole duration of the

games. No swapping of players would be allowed between matches.

II. Every game will be played for 15 minutes with 2 halves, 7 minutes each half and 1

minute break in between. 1 timeout per half is only given in Quarter-Finals onwards.

III. Preliminary rounds (Group Stage)

a. Teams will be divided into 8 groups randomly, and each group consists 3/4

teams.

b. The winner of respective groups will be qualified to proceed to the quarter

finals.

c. Definition of Group Winner:

i. Wins both group games, or at least a game under circumstances below

ii. If A wins B, B wins C, A draws C, A is the winner

iii. If each team wins one game, point difference (Points scored minus

Points against) determines the winner.

iv. If all teams draw, team with highest total point scored will be the

winner

d. No timeouts will be given at this stage. No overtime given if tie when game

ends.

IV. The Quarter-Finals

a. Captain of each Group Winners are expected to gather at 1.40pm to have a

draw for the quarter-final matches. Failure to turn up on time will lead to

disqualification and qualification is handed to the runner-up of the group.

b. The quarter-final stage is expected to start at 1.50pm.

c. A 30seconds timeout is given per half starting from this stage onwards.

d. If score is tie at the end of the game, 3 minutes extra time is given. In the 3

minutes overtime, if a team is able to open a gap as much as 10 points, the

foresaid team will be proclaimed winner without having to complete the 3

minutes.

V. The Semi-Finals

a. 4 winners of quarter finals will proceed to Semi-finals.

b. The semi-final stage is expected to start at 3.10pm.

c. Regulations stated in quarter-finals are used.

d. All 4 teams of Semi-Finals will proceed to The FINALS with 2 winners playing

for 1st and 2nd place and another 2 teams play for 3rd and 4th place.

VI. The FINALS

a. Game is played in 21 minutes, with 10 minutes each half and 1 minute in

between.

b. The finals are expected to start at 4.10pm.

c. A 30 seconds timeout is given per half.

d. If score is tie at the end of the game, 5 minutes overtime is given.

RULES

1. Referee of each teams are expected to understand the rules stated before the game.

2. Standard basketball rules of fouls and violation applies, with a little amendment of

point and free throw system.

3. For every shooting foul committed, 1 free throw will be given to the team been

fouled.

4. Each team is allowed 4 team fouls per half. Every foul committed after 4 team fouls

will result in 1 free throw given to team been fouled. (except for the Finals, where each

team is allowed 5 team foul per half)

5. First half is started by jump-ball (opening tip). Second half is started by the team that

did not get the jump-ball at the first half.

6. Timeouts and substitutions are only allowed during dead ball situation. Timeout is

only allowed to be called by the team in possession.

7. Timing of game runs even when the ball is dead, unless referee requests time to be

stopped. Time will be stopped during injuries and timeouts.

*The organizer of the basketball tournament has the right to change the time table

and also the format of on the match on that day due to any circumstances.

Tournament timetable may change in case of a delay in the start of play.

Notes for Captains

Make sure that the team provides at least 1 referee when asked.

Make sure that the team is on time for each game.

Responsible for the team’s discipline.

Aware of the time for each game as it may change.

Understand the rules and regulation stated above.

Give contact details to the Officials ASAP.

Be present during draws stated above.

Acknowledge that the team will prepare to accept penalty for misconduct,

unpunctuality and incapable of providing referee on time.

Notes for Referees

Understand the rules (point system and regulations) THOROUGHLY.

Be on time for the games that you are in charge of.

Be fair and no bias.

Be ready to guide inexperienced scorekeeper in recording scores and fouls.

Can ask for timekeeper to stop running clock if needed and count the time

for shot clock violation.

TABLE TENNIS 1. All games have to be scored and refereed by players themselves. A volunteer official will be stationed on each table to decide on any dispute. 2. There will be 3 tables. One table will be allocated for warm-up. Warm-up table is open ONLY for players who are playing within the next 10 minutes. For example, if your game is at 10.00 am, you are allowed to use the warm-up table from 9.50-10.00. The other two tables are used for matches. 3. Players are advised to be in court 10 minutes before matches start. Players who do not turn up on their matches will be forfeited. If late, a 2-3 minutes waiting time may be posed depending on time situation. All decisions are to be finalized by Head Official. 4. The Head Official has the right to alter the rules to ensure it ends in time and according to schedule. 5. All decisions by volunteer officials and Head Official are final. 6. Please respect all decision made as it is crucial to the flow of the competition as well as the best the interest of others. MALES SINGLE 1. Basic rules of table tennis apply. 2. A 10 minutes limit will be posed on every game (except semi-finals and finals). 3. Knockout system applies. Knockout system is based on a single game of 21 points. First player to reach 21 or player with highest points within 10 minutes wins. 4. For semi-finals and finals, a best out of 3 games will be played to determine the winner. FEMALE SINGLE 1. Basic rules of table tennis apply. 2. A 10 minutes limit will be posed on every game (except finals). 3. Two groups of round-robin system will be played. Winners from both groups will play for finals. 4. All games within round-robin are based on a single game of 21 points. First player to reach 21 or player with highest points within 10 minutes wins. 5. For finals, a best out of 3 games will be played to determine the winner. MIXED-DOUBLES 1. Basic rules of table tennis apply. 2. A 15 minutes limit will be posed on every game (except finals). 3. Knockout system applies. Knockout system is based on a single game of 21 points. First team to reach 21 or team with highest points within 15 minutes wins. 4. For finals, a best out of 3 games will be played to determine the winner.

5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL 1. Teams and players are expected to follow all rules and regulations. Failure to do so will result in the team being penalised. 2. Though no strict rules on gender will be imposed, do take note that every year, only men take part in this highly competitive event. 3. The Standard Rules of Football (unless stated) applies throughout this tournament. The few important rules are as follow:

In group stages, the winner of matches will be awarded 3 points, while matches drawn will result in both teams being awarded 1 point. Losing teams will not be awarded any points.

For all matches, teams are allowed rolling substitutions.

For the Semi-Finals and Finals, the golden goal rule will be enforced during extra time. The team that manages to score the 1st goal will be declared the winner of the tie.

Disciplinary o The Yellow and Red card rules will be enforced throughout the tournament. o Players that receive 2 yellow cards in the same match will be shown an automatic red card. o Players that pick up 2 yellow cards in different matches, will be suspended for the next game. The same applies to one red card collected by a player.

4. Fighting is strictly prohibited ON or OFF the pitch. Nottingham Malaysian Games committee considers this a very serious offence and has the authority to penalize teams or disqualify teams from the tournament to ensure the smooth flowing of the tournament. 5. Referees’ decisions are FINAL. Any complaints must be directed to the Football Tournament Head Organizer. 6. No requests for amendments in schedule will be entertained unless for a justifiable reason. 7. Players are advised to wear shin pads and turf shoes while playing in any matches to avoid injuries. 8. Team captains together with their respective teams must report to the officer-in-charge (details on tournament day) 10 minutes before the start of their match in full gear(turf shoes, shin pads, jersey, etc.). Failure to do so can result in teams being deducted one point, start the particular match with a handicap (i.e. starting the match with a one goal deficit), or be forfeited. 9. Teams must follow the bus schedule strictly. No requests for different bus timings will be entertained. Should teams miss their respective busses, they are to find their own transportation to Power League.

10. Should teams fail to turn up for any of their matches, failure to board a bus should NOT be cited as an excuse and will NOT BE ENTERTAINED altogether by officials. Penalization for being late or failing to turn up applies. 11. Teams are required to provide two names to be the referee in certain matches. Details of the matches assigned are provided in the fixture list.

Assigned referees are to report to the official-in-charge.

Referees will be provided with a whistle, a stopwatch and a yellow and red card. These items must be returned to the officer-in-charge when the match is over.

12. Should the assigned referee not be available for matches, the particular team will be deducted one point. Teams MUST read, understand and adhere to all the rules and regulations AND the tournament format of Nottingham Malaysian Games. 13. Nottingham Malaysian Games committee reserves the rights to alter any of the rules and regulations at any given time to ensure the smooth running of the tournament 14. Tournament Format

The Nottingham Malaysian Games Football Tournament 2009 will be played according to a 5 stage format.

The details of each stage are as follows:-

o The Group Stage - Teams taking part will be divided into groups of 12 randomly. Each group consists of 5/6 teams. - Group stages are scheduled to start at 0900 hours. - Matches in the group stages will be played according to a 5-1-5 system (two 5 minute playing halves with a 1 minute break in between). - The standard rules of football (refer to rules) applies in terms of points distribution for wins, draws, and losses. - The winners of respective groups qualify for the 2nd Round. - Should 2 teams in any one group accumulate the same number of points; the winner of the match between the 2 teams will take the higher standing, regardless of the goal difference or the number of goals scored. - The *FOUR best runner-up teams will qualify for the 2nd Round together with the winners of the groups.

* Definition of the ‘FOUR Best Runner-up Teams’ is as follows: Criteria 1: The four best runner-up teams of respective groups with the highest number of points will qualify. Criteria 2: The four best runner-up teams of respective groups with the best goal difference will qualify.

Criteria 3: The four best runner-up teams of respective groups with the most goals scored will qualify.

NOTE: Teams will be judged such where Criteria 1 represents the principal criteria followed by Criteria 2, and Criteria 3.

o The 2nd Round (Best of 16) - The 2nd round consists of winners of the respective 12 groups and the four 2nd best runner-up teams. - The 2nd Round is scheduled to start at approximately 1315 hours. - Teams are drawn randomly to play one match to decide who proceeds to Quarter-Finals. - Matches in the 2nd Round will be played according to a 7-1-7 system. - If scores are tied by the end of normal time, a 3 penalty shoot-out proceeds.

o Quarter-Finals - Winners of the 2nd Round matches proceed to Quarter-Finals. - Quarter-Finals are scheduled to start at approximately 1400 hours. - Teams are scheduled to play one match to decide who proceeds to Semi-Final. - Matches in Quarter-Final will be played according to a 7-1-7 system. - If scores are tied by the end of normal time, a 3 penalty shoot-out proceeds.

o Semi-Finals - Winners of Quarter-Final matches proceed to Semi-Final. - Semi-Finals are scheduled to start at 1445 hours. - Teams will play one match to determine who proceeds to The Final. - Matches in Semi-Finals will be played according to a 7-1-7 system. - If scores are tied by the end of normal time, a 3 minutes 2 half extra time will be played where the golden goal rule apply. - Should the match still fail to yield a winner by the end of extra time, a 3 penalty shoot-out proceeds.

o Final - The two respective winners of the Semi-Final matches proceed to the Final. - The Final is scheduled to start at 1730 hours. - The venue of this match is at the University of Nottingham sports centre - The Final will be played with 7 players in each team. - The Final will be played according to a 15-1-15 system.

- If scores are tied by the end of normal time, a 5 minutes two half extra time will be played where the golden goal rule apply. - Should the match still fail to yield a winner by the end of extra time, a 3 penalty shoot-out proceeds to determine the winner.

15. OTHER GAME FORMAT

High ball is allowed.

Back pass is allowed but goalkeeper cannot catch the ball.

Players are not allowed to go inside D area and Goalkeepers are not allowed to go outside D area. Failure to comply will result in a foul.

There should only be a maximum of 5 players on the court during the game.

“Flying Substitution”: The players must enter and exit at the designated “substitution areas” only. The player to be replaced should exit first before the replacement can go in.

Goal will not count at kick off.

After Golden Goals, in case of draw, there shall be penalty shootouts of three (3) kickers for quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals.

Referee’s decisions are final.

Fouls and misconduct: body-contact must be very minimal. All forms of body-contacts that are deemed as strong, dangerous, and/or aggressive by the referee shall be considered foul. Slide tackling is strictly prohibited!

2 yellow cards accumulation would equal to a one-game suspension. 16. TEAM UNIFORM

Shirts shall be of the same color on both front and back, with numbers and family name at the back. Shorts should also have a number. Goalkeeper should wear a different

color from the referee, opposing team and teammates.

Rubber shoes or indoor shoes are required. (Boot type firm ground studs are allowed at power league) *Note that only FINALS will be played at University Sports Centre, thus only astro turf shoes are allowed there.

All players must tuck-in their shirts during the game and should wear shin guard during the match. It is highly recommended to all goalkeepers to wear kneepads.

It is highly recommended that teams bring their own football for practices.

NETBALL 1. Standard rules of netball apply.

2. Preliminary rounds and quarter finals will last 11 minutes, with 5 minutes for each

half and 1 minute interval.

3. Semi-finals will last 16 minutes, with 7 minutes for each half and 2 minutes interval.

4. Finals will last for 22 minutes, with 10 minutes for each half and 4 minutes interval.

5. Preliminary matches will be played in standard group format; 3 points for a win, 1

point for a draw and nil for the losing team.

6. Each team must provide an umpire and MUST be at their respective court 5 minutes

before the match.

7. Preferably, the umpire is not playing for the team, or is a reserve player (i.e. NOT a

main player)

8. In the event of teams being tied on points after all group matches; the team with

most goals in total will get the higher spot.

9. If there is a tie during quarter finals, semi-finals and finals, then an extra 2 minutes

will be added.

10. If a team is not at the court before the game, then the opposite party gets a free

win, however, all decisions still depend on the head official.

11. The head official has the right to disqualify any teams that do not abide by the above

regulations.

MIXED VOLLEYBALL

1. Standard rules of volleyball apply.

2. One team may send 6 players and 2 reserves.

3. At least 2 men or 3 women players must be on the court at any time. This means:

total number of men must be between 2 - 3. And total number of women must be

between 3 - 4.

4. Preliminary rounds:

Single round robin system

One set only

Two points shall be awarded to the winner of the match and one point to the

loser.

Play time of 10 minutes; team with highest score at the end of 10 minutes or

first to reach 25 points will emerge as winners.

5. Semi-finals and final:

Teams with highest total point in the preliminary rounds in each group will

proceed to the semis. In the case of teams tying in number of wins, the team

with highest score and then highest point difference will be eligible.

Best of 3 sets

1 minute break between each sets

6. All teams are required to provide an umpire and linesmen.

7. A judgment call by an umpire cannot be questioned.

8. All teams must assign ONE umpire, to refer for the team playing before your team.

9. Umpire must be at court 5 minutes before the start game assigned; failure to do so

will result in suspension of the team of the umpire.

10. However, all umpires are under the monitor of the staffs and other heads involved.

Any unfair act will be disqualified, and, will affect their team score.

11. Walkover Rule:

Preliminary rounds: will apply to any team that could not make it in time for

their respective game.

Semis and Final: As above. However an extra 5 minutes waiting time MIGHT be

granted by the head official depending on the situation.

SQUASH

1. Participants have been randomly placed into groups, and will go through the

preliminary round.

2. Basic rules of squash apply.

3. For preliminary rounds, quarterfinals and semifinals, winner will be determined

based on best two out of three matches. Point-a-rally scoring system will be used i.e.

points are scored by the winner of each rally, whether or not he or she served. 9 points

system will be played, and the first player to win two matches is considered the winner.

4. For final and third and fourth placing matches, winner will be determined based on

best three out of five matches. A point is scored only by the server. When the receiver

wins the rally, they are awarded only the right to serve. 11 points system will be played,

and the first player to win three matches is considered the winner.

5. If the game reaches a point that requires tie breaking, this will be determined by head

of squash volunteer and players shall follow the tie breaking system set.

LIGHTNING CHESS

1. 10 minutes time control on each side.

2. Winner is determined by a checkmate or if his/her opponent runs out of time.

3. Top 2 of the group will qualify for the next stage. Please refer to the game schedule.

4. Preliminary matches will be played in a 12 group format: 1 point for a win, half a point

for a draw and 0 points for the losing player. Each player will play as individuals and play

a total of 3 games in a group.

5. The final 6 will be a 4/5 round Swiss tournament. Tie-breaks will be decided on

Solkoff/Bulchotz calculations (standard international standard) where the points of the

players you’ve beaten will be taken into consideration.

6. Players are reminded that some rules for lightning chess differ from that of standard

chess:

No touch move applicable (hence people can touch their pieces and then choose

to move something else)

If your opponent does not hit his clock after moving, you are under no obligation

to inform him.

Please ensure your clocks are properly wound up. If for this reason, the clock

does not move, game will be resumed with the current time with the clocks

wound up (which means if you didn’t check it, and your opponent’s clock wasn’t

moving, then your opponent gains an advantage). It is your own responsibility to

ensure that both clocks are properly wound up though we will endeavour to

ensure that this is so.

King when being checked need NOT be announced. The opponent has the right

to take the king if it was not moved when in check.

A player making an illegal move and hitting the clock shall forfeit the game, if

called by the opponent before touching a piece (includes illegal castling, any

move outside of the game, etc).

Where both players have only one rook or one queen each a draw can be

claimed if the claimant has at least one minute on his clock and the opponent

cannot show a forced win to the arbiter within 3 moves.

Where a player has insufficient material to mate (i.e. 1 bishop, 1 knight, 2

knights) and his opponent runs out of time, a draw will result.

7. The winner will bring the clock to the arbiter table and record his results. The loser

will set up the pieces.

8. If a dispute arises, stop the clocks and attract the attention of the arbiter who will

deal with the matter.

9. Toilet breaks during the game will not be entertained.

10. The head official has the right to alter the format of the tournament as he/she

deems necessary. Arbiter and head official’s decisions are final.

SCRABBLE

General Rules

1. STANDARD RULES of Scrabble created by Matel are applied in this tournament.

2. SOWPODS (OSW and OSPD) would be appointed DICTIONARY. Both the dictionary

and the software will be used as reference to validate words.

3. You may CHALLENGE any word constructed by your opponent using a challenge slip.

If the word is not valid, your opponent loses a turn and withdraws his/her tiles. A

challenge can only be made ONCE each turn

4. SWAPPING TILES will cost you a turn and can only be done on your turn itself. You will

only be allowed to draw once the unwanted tiles are placed down. The unwanted are

then placed into the bag.

5. Players can PASS a turn if they wish to. However, THREE continuous passes from the

same player will end the game. The point value of the UNUSED TILES will be deducted

from your score and player with the highest score will be the winner.

6. Player is allowed to quit the game if they wish to.

7. It is the player’s responsibility to record down his/her own score. Players are ADVISED

to liaise with each other about the recorded score.

8. Apart from the appointed dictionary, ANY other FORM OF DICTIONARY (phones etc)

is prohibited.

9. ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BY organizers WHEN APPROPRIATE.

Rules which apply ONLY in the QUALIFYING ROUND

1. There will be a QUALIFYING ROUND where 4 PLAYERS play on 1 board before the

Rules which apply ONLY in ROUND ROBIN

1. The tournament is based on 1 VERSUS 1 ROUND ROBIN format.

2. The winner of the tournament will be one with the highest number of points. A WIN

scores you with 1 point, a DRAW 0.5 and a LOSS 0.

3. Each player has a maximum of 15 MINUTES each per game. Every minute after is a -

10 point penalty. If both players reach the 18 minute mark, the game will end.

4. If a player quits in the middle of the game, the game will then end there without any

points being deducted or added. If however your opponent does not show up, your

auto-score will be 400 and the opponent’s 350.

LIGHTNING SNOOKER

1. Basic rules of snooker apply.

2. Each player needs to proceed to his next shot 30 seconds after the cue ball has been

previously hit by the opponent.

3. The same amount of time is also applied for a player to make his/her shot after a

previous successful shot. If not, the turn will be given to the opponent.

4. Each game will be played to a maximum of 20 minutes. The player with the highest

points is the winner.

5. A black ball final will be played if the score is level.

6. Tournament system is an elimination/knock-out system.

7. The 3 finalist will play against each other once. The finalist with 2 wins or in the event

of a tie, the finalist with the highest scoring total in the final will be the champion of the

tournament.

8. Punctuality – Game officials have the option to disqualify a team if it is later than 5

minutes for their scheduled game

9. Referee- Each team has to provide a referee. This referee will be assigned to referee

another match. Failure in providing a referee may result in disqualification.

10. Game officials’ and referees’ decisions are final.

11. There will be limited number of cue sticks, and as such, the organiser strongly

recommends all players to bring their own cue sticks.

CONGKAK

1. Standard rules apply.

2. The Congkak board has fourteen holes in two sets of seven, plus an additional store

for each player. Each player controls the seven holes on their side of the board, and

their score is the number of seeds in their left-hand store.

3. At the start of the game, seven seeds are placed in each hole except the stores, which

remain empty.

4. The objective of the game is to capture more seeds than one's opponent.

5. Players take turns moving the seeds except in the first move which is performed

simultaneously. On a turn, a player chooses one of the seven holes under their control.

The player removes all seeds from this hole, and distributes them in each hole clockwise

from this hole, in a process called sowing. Sowing skips an opponent's store, but does

not skip a player's own store.

6. If the last seed falls into an occupied hole, all the seeds are removed from that hole,

and are sown starting from that hole. The process continues until the last seed falls into

a player's store, or an empty hole.

7. If the last seed sown falls into a player's own store, they immediately earn another

turn, which can begin at any of the seven holes under their control.

8. If the last seed sown falls into an empty hole on the current player's side, then the

player captures all the seeds in the hole directly across from this one, on the opponent's

side. If the opposing hole is empty, no seeds are captured.

BATU SEREMBAN

1. Standard rules of 5 stones apply. The organiser will provide the ‘stones’, but players

are encouraged to bring their own.

2. The game is open to all sexes in one open category.

3. Players will play in groups of three or four.

4. Identifying turn: players will place all stones on their palm, and simultaneously throw

all in the air. Players will then have to catch the stones using the back of their hands,

and the player with the highest number will proceed with the game first. In the event

that two players catch the same amount of stones, only those players will repeat the

same process.

5. Round 1: All 5 stones are tossed on the ground. Player has to pick one up and toss it

in the air. While the stone is in the air, they must pick one of the four remaining stones

and catch the one which was thrown up. The player continues to do this until he/she

has grabbed each of the stones one at a time. Players are only given one attempt. If they

fail, during their next turn, they must repeat the entire process.

6. Round 2: similar to round 1, except that two stones must be grabbed per stone

tossed.

7. Round 3: similar to round 1, except that after the second toss, three stones must be

grabbed.

8. Round 4: similar to round 1, except that all four stones must be grabbed.

9. Round 5: similar to round 4, with one additional step. With all stones in one hand,

players must then throw one in the air, followed by placing the remaining four on the

ground. Players must then catch the stone that was tossed.

10. Round 6: with two stones in one hand, one stone will be tossed in the air. With the

stone still in the air, the stone in the hand must be exchanged with one of stones on the

ground. This step is repeated until all stones have at one point been in the players’

hand.

11. Round 7: with two stones in one hand, both will be tossed in the air. Players must

then grab one of the ground, followed by the players catching both stones tossed with

both hands, one in each. This step is repeated until all stones have at one point been in

the players’ hand.

12. Collecting points: After finishing each round, players must toss all the stones in the

air and catch them on the back of his/her hand to collect points. If they fail to collect any

stone, during their next turn, they must repeat this process.

13. The first player to finish the game first will be the winner.

DAM HAJI/CHECKERS

1. Malaysian/Singaporean checkers rules apply.

2. Turns are decided based on coins flipping.

3. Each piece can only move a step forward (diagonally), to the squares of the same

colour.

4. You capture an opponent's piece by jumping over it, diagonally, to the adjacent

vacant square beyond it.

5. You can make a multiple jump with one piece only, by jumping to Empty Square. In a

multiple jump, the jumping piece can change directions, jumping first in one direction

and then in another direction towards your opponent’s side. You remove the jumped

pieces from the board. You cannot jump your own piece.

6. Huffing system applies that is, if you can jump, you must. And, a multiple jump must

be completed; you cannot stop part way through a multiple jump. If you have a choice

of jumps, you can choose among them, regardless of whether some of them are

multiple, or not. If not, the huffing piece will be removed.

7. When a piece reach the opponent’s last row, the piece become a ‘haji’ piece in which

a haji piece can move either forward or backward, as well as moving further according

to the diagonal squares where it is situated.

8. A ‘haji’ piece can also capture another piece that is situated further and within the

same diagonal squares. Multiple capture is also possible.

9. The game ends when one of the players loses all of his/her pieces.

Carrom

Basic Rules of Double Play

A coin flip is used to determine who shoots first, and the first shooter is given the

white pieces ("carrommen") to play.

You set the striker along the baseline of the board. Using the striker, and with

only your hand touching the board, you attempt to sink your own pieces by

flicking (not pushing) the striker at the target piece at the proper angle.

When you fail to sink a carroman, play passes to your opponent, the player on

your right in a four-player game.

You can pocket the queen only after having pocketed at least one of your own

pieces. If you pocket the queen and miss on your next shot, the queen goes back

to the center with one of your carommen.

No backshooting is allowed.

Winner for double will be based on the teams which sink all their carrommen

and the queen first.

Basic Rules for Single Play

Who shoots first will be determined just like the double play (i.e. coin

flipping).You continue to play as long as you sink one or more piece.

To pocket the white piece, you need to get a license. The license will be

pocketing 1 black piece and one white piece consecutively during your turn. If

not, you are only allowed to pocket the black pieces.

When you fail to sink a piece, play passes to your opponent, the player on your

right in a four-player game.

No backshooting is allowed.

To pocket the queen, a player need to pocket the red piece first and either one

white piece, or two black pieces consecutively during your turn. If you failed to

do so, one black piece is required to be returned to the board.

When all the pieces have been pocketed (are off the board), the game stops.

Winner for single plays will be based on point-system (white: 2 points; black: 1

point; queen; 5 points).

Other Rules of Play

If you inadvertently shoot your striker into a pocket, one of your carromen are

replaced on the board. The same goes when you sink opponent's pieces (applies

to double).

As for single, if you accidentally sink the striker into the pockets either two black

pieces or one white piece is returned to the board.

Forfeiting the Match

o By the official Laws of Carrom, which concern umpired tournament and

match play, a player may forfeit the match by any one of several

unsportsmanlike actions, including leaving the board without permission,

resting over the time limit, insulting the umpire, purposefully distracting

the opponent after a warning, or discontinuing play without permission.

Ultimate Frisbee

1. Each game consists of one half of 30 minutes.

2. Each team must consist of 7 players and 3 substitutes (total 10)

3. There must be a minimum of 2 female players on the pitch at all times.

4. The scoring cap is set at 11 points. If no team gets 11 points after 30 minutes, the

team with the higher score wins.

Pull

1. To begin play the ultimate players from each team line up on their end zones, and the

defense team pulls (throws) the disc to the other team as a "kick-off". Pulls are long

throws, and they are thrown in efforts of giving the offensive team poor field position

and a chance for the defense to get down the field soon enough to stop advances.

2. The team that pulls to start the game is usually decided in a manner similar to a coin

toss. Instead of using a coin often an ultimate frisbee disc is used.

Movement of the Ultimate Disc

1. The disc may be moved in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate.

2. After catching a pass, a player is required to come to a stop as quickly as possible, and

then can only move their non-pivot foot.

3. A common misconception is that a player must setup a pivot foot before they can

throw the disc.

4. In fact, the player can throw the disc before stopping within the first couple of steps

after they gain possession of the disc.

5. It is this fact that makes the "Greatest" rule possible.

6. A "Greatest" occurs when a player jumps from within bounds to catch a disc that has

passed out-of-bounds, this is also known as an "ultimate play".

7. The player must then throw the disc back in-bounds before his feet or any other part

of his body touches the ground.

8. The thrower may only catch their own throw if another player touches it in the air.

9. Upon receiving the disc, a player has ten seconds to pass it.

10. This period is known as the "stall", and each second is counted out (astall count) by a

defender (the marker), who must be standing within three meters of the thrower.

11. A player may keep the disc for longer than ten seconds if no marker is within three

meters, or if the marker is not counting the stall; if there is a change of marker, the new

marker must restart the stall from zero.

Scoring

1. A point is scored when a player catches a pass in the end zone his team is attacking.

2. In older versions of the rules, only offensive players could score.

3. However, current UPA and WFDF rules allow a defensive team to score by

intercepting a pass in the end zone they are defending.

4. It is named after well-known ultimate player Henry Callahan.

5. After a point is scored, the teams exchange ends.

6. The team who just scored remains in that end zone, and the opposing team takes the

opposite end zone.

7. This can be commonly referred to in the phrase: "Losers walk." Play is re-initiated

with a pull by the scoring team.

Change of possession

1. An incomplete pass results in a change of possession.

2. When this happens the defence immediately becomes the offense and gains

possession of the disc where it comes to a stop on the field of play, or where it first

travelled out of bounds.

3. Play does not stop because of a turnover.

Reasons for turnovers:

Throw-away — the thrower misses his target and the disc falls to the ground.

Drop — the receiver is not able to catch the disc.

Block — a defender deflects the disc in mid-flight, causing it to hit the ground.

Interception — a defender catches a disc thrown by the offense.

Out of bounds — the disc lands out of bounds, hits an object out of bounds or is

caught by a player who lands out of bounds or leaps from outside the playing

field.

Stall — a player on offense does not release the disc before the defender has

counted out ten seconds.

Stoppage of play

Play may stop for the following reasons:

Fouls

A foul is the result of contact between players, although incidental contact (not affecting

the play) does not constitute a foul. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes

as if the possession were retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with

(contests) the foul call, the disc is returned to the last thrower.

Violations

A violation occurs when a player violates the rules but does not initiate physical contact.

Common violations include traveling with the disc, double teaming, and picking (moving

in a manner so as to obstruct the movement of any player on the defensive team).

Time outs and half-time

By Eleventh Edition rules, each team is allowed two time outs per half. The halftime

break occurs when one team reaches the half-way marker in the score. Since most

games are played to odd numbers, the number for half-time is rounded up. For instance,

if the game is to 13, half comes when one team scores 7. A break may also occur if an

injury occurs.

Injuries

Play stops whenever a player is injured—this is considered an injury time-out. During

the duration, it is customary for players on the field to kneel or sit to ensure that they

stay in their original positions. The injured person must then leave the field, and a

substitute may come in. If an injured player is substituted for, the opposing team may

also substitute a player.

Weather

While Ultimate may be played in a myriad of weather conditions including heavy rain

and deep snow, nearby lightning should result in stoppage of play with players seeking

shelter. Many times, precipitation will result in a hiatus in order to protect the playing

field.

Substitutions

Teams are allowed to substitute players after a point is scored or for injured player after

an injury time out. In the case of an injury substitution, the opposing team is allowed to

make a substitution for a non-injured player.

Refereeing

Players are responsible for foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes. This

creates a spirit of honesty and respect on the playing field. It is the duty of the player

who committed the foul to speak up and admit his infraction. Occasionally, official

observers are used to aid players in refereeing, known as observers.
