REGISTRATION INFORMATION

All K through 6 students will register in the Elementary Office.

Grades 7 through 12 will register in the High School Office. Please enter at the front door of the office and exit through the Teachers’ Lounge.

Wednesday, July 27th from 7 am to 2 pm, Thursday, July 28th from 12 pm to 7 pm and Friday, July 29th from 7 am to 10 am. (Please note: There will be no course changes for senior high students on the day of registration. Senior high school students will receive their schedules and need to bring signed parental contact forms.)

REGISTRATION INFORMATION CONTINUED…

The first day of school for R.O.W.V.A. students will be on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, with a 1:45 pm dismissal. All students riding buses are urged to be ready 15 minutes early the first day to compensate for any problems or delays that may occur. Students who attend schools outside our district will have their first day of school: Galesburg School District will be August 16th, Knoxville School District will be August 17th, and Kiefer School in Peoria will be August 15th.

A list of elementary and jr. high school supplies, which are needed for students, will be available on the ROWVA website, at the Superintendent’s Office, or may be obtained on the day of registration. A listing has also been sent to Target, WalMart, K-Mart, ShopKo and Staples.

Book fees and other fees may be combined in one check for each individual student payable to R.O.W.V.A. C.U.S.D. #208 or by paying online with E-Pay at www.rowva.k12.il.us. *Please remember to keep the lunch payment separate with online payment and with payment by check.* Payment of book and insurance fees are to be made at the time of registration.

E-PAY INFORMATION

The R.O.W.V.A. District offers online payment through E-Pay. This can be accessed through the R.O.W.V.A. website, and is entering its sixth year. Payment for textbooks, school fees and lunches may be utilized in this way. This does not include the ROWVAN Yearbook, graduation supplies, and the student handbook. Check it out!

FREE / REDUCED MEALS

The Free / Reduced Meal Application is included in this Newsletter and will be available at registration. Lunch menus will also be available at registration.

Please bring the qualifying information (such as payroll stubs, social security number, TANF number, or the sheet from the State of Illinois that automatically qualifies you for free lunches) to registration.

Parents of elementary students are encouraged to send a check or cash on Monday of each week, or by paying online with E-Pay. If there are parents who feel their children should have free or reduced price meals, please complete the application included in this Newsletter or pick up a form at the district office or at the time of registration. Please take care of this matter as soon as possible so they may be quickly processed.

HEALTH EXAM INFORMATION

In addition to being in compliance relative to immunizations, children must receive physical examinations prior to entering Illinois schools for the first time (regardless of grade level), prior to the date of entering prekindergarten or kindergarten, prior to entering sixth grade and prior to entering ninth grade. Students entering kindergarten, second and sixth grade are required to have a dental exam. Any student entering Illinois schools for the first time (regardless of grade level) or prior to entering kindergarten are also required to have an eye exam. ***All requirements are to be completed and returned the first day of school. Those who do not comply by September 1st will be excluded from school until this requirement is met***

In addition, all athletes must receive a physical before the start of the sport in which they will be participating. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THESE REQUIREMENTS BE MET BY AUGUST 10th FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN FALL SPORTS.

INSURANCE

ROWVA District #208 currently carries School Time protection on each student which includes child’s travel time directly to and from your residence to attend regular academic school sessions, up to one hour before and one hour after regular classes during the time they are in school, including extra-curricular activities of which they are supervised by authorized personnel. Your student is eligible for coverage because of the school’s membership in WCSIT.

ATHLETIC PAY-TO-PARTICIPATE

All 2016 / 2017 athletic participants must pay a $30 participation fee for the first high school activity, $20 for the second and $10 for the third. For the first junior high activity the fee is $20, $15 for the second and $10 for the third. There is a $125 cap per family. High School activities affected include Cross Country, Golf, Football, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Basketball, Baseball, Softball and Track. Junior High activities include Football, Cheerleading, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track.

Fees must be paid prior to participation in the particular sport.

JR. HIGH PHYSICAL EDUCATION EQUIPMENT NEEDS

Students who are taking physical education in the Jr. High will need to bring the following equipment for class. They will need: T-SHIRT, SHORTS, SOCKS, AND GYM SHOES. All of these clothes will be different from the clothes the student will wear to school. It is important that this rule be followed as the students could possibly damage their clothes through some of the activities that will be done in class. **Also, please make sure that the clothing follows the school dress code as laid out in the Student Handbook.**

Each student will be issued a physical education locker to keep these clothes in and they will also be issued a lock. They will be expected to take these clothes home every weekend to be washed and returned to school the following Monday.

High School Football, Cheerleading & Girls’ Golf

Football and Cheerleading practice will begin on Monday, August 8th in Galva. Practice August 8th – August 13th will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bus will leave ROWVA at 7:15 a.m. each day. Starting August 15th, practice will be every day after school.

Girls’ Golf practice will begin on Wednesday, August 10th @ 3 pm. More girls are needed so please spread the word! If you have any questions, please contact Bob McGraw at (309) 337-0078 or at [email protected].

High School Volleyball & Cross Country

High School Volleyball – Practices will be Wednesday, August 10th – August 12th from 9-11:30 am and 12:30-2 pm. Practices will then be 3:15-5:45 pm starting Monday, August 15th. Practices will be held in the Elementary School Gym until August 17th. Please contact Tricia Bledsoe at (309) 368-2534 with any questions.

Cross Country – Practice will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10th in Galva and run through August 12th. The bus will leave ROWVA at 7:30 a.m. and return around 10:00 a.m. Starting August 15th, practice will be after school. Make sure you have a current physical. Please contact Coach Furrow at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Marching Band & Chorus

Leadership camp will be July 13th – 15th.

Band camp will be July 18th – July 22nd and July 25th – July 29th. (Extra band camp hours July 23rd and 30th.)

Sweet Corn Festival Parade will be July 30th at 4 pm.

Jr. High Volleyball and Football

Jr. High Volleyball – Students will stay in a supervised study hall from 1:45pm to 3pm the first week of school. Practice will begin on August 17th from 3:10–5:30 pm. Practice will be dismissed around 5:15 pm and are to be picked up at the Elementary building.

Jr. High Football – Practice information will be added as soon as it becomes available.

Remember, your sports physical needs to be turned in before practice begins.

ATHLETIC SEASON PASS / BOOSTER CLUB

Season tickets will go on sale on July 27th (during registration) at the High School office for all regular season home high school and jr. high school athletic events. They are not valid for tournament games hosted by ROWVA. The price for an adult pass is $60 and a student pass is $40. Family pass price is $100. This is a savings of well over half the cost of paying admission at the door! Single-game admission will be $4/adult and $3/student for HS games and $3/adult and $2/student for JH games.

PARENTS OF 2017 GRADUATES

This is a reminder about senior pictures for the upcoming yearbook.

Your child should have his/her yearbook portrait taken on or before September 15, 2016, by Dickerson Photography (193 W. Main Street, Galesburg). In order to be included in the senior color section of the yearbook, the wallet-size pose of your choice must be completed (chosen, touchups applied, sent to and returned from printing – all done by the photographer) by that date. Mr. Dickerson will then deliver all the pictures to the yearbook staff.

You may make an appointment by calling Dickerson Photography at 309-342-3512. Your support and cooperation in making this yearbook a quality publication is really appreciated.

Freshman Orientation

There will be a Freshman Student Orientation session on July 27th at 10 am in the high school. All in-coming freshmen are encouraged to attend. Students unable to attend can contact Mrs. Lair at [email protected] to get a handout summarizing the meeting.

Driver Education Information

Mr. Zaiser will be in attendance at the Freshman Orientation on July 27th to answer any quick questions the students might have.

There will be a meeting for the parents of children who will be participating in Driver’s Education (classroom or behind-the-wheel) class during the 2016/2017 school year. This meeting will be held on August 9th @ 6:00 pm in the LMC.

TITLE I FEDERAL PROGRAM

Title I funds provide for remedial reading help in grades K-3 with small group instruction by a special reading teacher. The time spent with the Title I reading teacher is in addition to the student’s regular time and is included in the STRIPE program.

Kindergarten Backpack Night

Mrs. Bledsoe and Mrs. Ferry will be hosting Backpack Night for all kindergarten students on Monday, August 15th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Students can bring their backpacks with all of their supplies that night, meet the teacher, and see their classroom for the first time! Please enter through the main entrance. We look forward to seeing you on August 15th!
