A two-day Seminar on “Role of Yoga & Naturopathy in Prevention And Management of
Diabetes and Cardiac Ailments” was organised in a grand manner by Indira Gandhi
Technological And Medical Sciences University, Ziro from 14-15 March 2016 in Abotani Hall,
Ziro in association with Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (Ministry of
AYUSH, Govt. of India).The theme of the Seminar was chosen as a part of state-wide campaign
for prevention of diabetes and cardiac ailments.
This was perhaps for the first time in the history of Arunachal Pradesh, a platform had been
created which provided an opportunity to eminent doctors from the field of Cardiology and
Endocrinology, Research Scientists, Yog Gurus, Yoga and Naturopathy Experts from all over
the country to share and exchange their knowledge and experience which benefited the people
of the state in general and Ziro in particular.
The focus of this seminar was to explore how Yoga and Naturopathy independent as well as in
combination with Modern Medicine and other Ayush Systems can complement each other in
order to provide best solutions for the management of the major Non Communicable diseases
such as Diabetes and Cardiovascular ailments.
Dr. Ishwar Acharya, Director, CCRYN (Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India) graced the
occasion as Chief Guest and appreciated the efforts of the University for organising such a
grand event and assured the University of Full Support in furthering the cause of Yoga and
Naturopathy throughout the state and in establishing 100 bedded hospital in Ziro.
Mr. Kemo Lollen, Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri District who was Guest of Honour
also congratulated the University for creating a platform where eminent doctors from the field
of Cardiology and Endocrinology, Research Scientists, Yog Gurus, Yoga and Naturopathy
Experts from all over the country gathered to share and exchange their knowledge and
experience which will benefit the people of the state.
Dr. Jitender Singh Mos PMO and DONEAR and Dr. Harshvardhan Minister DST, Govt of India
sent their good wishes for the success of this national level seminar through their representatives
Shri. Sudarshan Sarin (National President, All India Confederation of Small And Micro
Industries Association) and Mr.Ashutosh Pathak (renowned Media Person) respectively.
Mr. Tume Amo, SSP Lower Subansiri District was also present in the grand inaugural session
and wished for the success of the Seminar.
Dr. Moli Riba (DMO, Lower Subansiri District) welcomed the conduct of such a useful seminar
in such a remote and difficult area of the country
The Launch of state wide health campaign for prevention and management of diabetes and
cardiac ailments was announced by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr.SN Pandey.
There were around 100 NGO’s and Self Help Groups which sent their representatives for
participation in the Seminar. On their demand Health Check-up and counselling by Yoga
Experts and Cardiologists had to be conducted.
On public demand Dr. Ishwar Acharya had to inaugurate the OPD (Yoga & Naturopathy) &
Lifestyle Intervention Centre, at one of the campuses of the University at SSB Gate,Ziro.

Apart from attending and listening to the seminar more than 300 people underwent counselling,
general check-up and gained advise from the renowned doctors ,naturopathy and yoga experts
and also gained a chance to explore how Yoga and Naturopathy independent as well as in
combination with Modern Medicine, and other AYUSH systems of medicine can complement
each other in order to provide best solutions for the management of the major Non
Communicable diseases such as Diabetes and Cardiovascular ailments.
The Seminar on Role of Yoga and Naturopathy in Prevention and Management of Diabetes and
Cardiac Ailments organised as a part of state-wide campaign for prevention of diabetes and
cardiac ailments was a huge success as the aims and objectives of the seminar reached to the
people living in the remotest and the most downtrodden part of the country.
