All ROG notebooks go through a series of durability tests to ensure toughness and reliability. They’re tested under extreme conditions and situations to ensure they’re always up to the high standards expected of ROG gear.

STRINGENTQUALITY CONTROL

VIBRATIONTEST

We rattle our systems with vibrations across all axes and check for any damage with a microscope. It’s not

hard to understand why this is necessary; any time a system is in transit, it’s experiencing vibrations, and

most of us take our laptops with us everywhere.

TEMPERATURETEST

We toss ROG systems into humidity chamber and freeze them for up to 24 hours. Then we perform

dozens of startup cycles. Next, we crank up the thermostat to 50°C/122°F for up to another 24 hours,

and do even more startup cycles.

TWIST TESTIt’s hard on your laptop when you carry it around with the lid open, but of course, we all do it. To be sure our

laptops are tough enough to endure, we put them in a pair of clamps and twist the base of the laptops and

the lids 50,000 times.

NOISE TESTWe want to keep our laptops and desktops humming

along as quietly as possible even under a full load, so we use a sensitive microphone to make sure they

test under certain noise thresholds. We even check to make sure the touchpads on laptops don't click

too loudly.

SHOCK TESTOur shock tests are meant to reproduce the miscellaneous bumps that all systems are subjected

to at one point or another. We strap ROG systems onto a “shock table,” shock them with g forces,

and then check to be sure that each part has held together and no microscopic cracks anywhere.

HINGEROTATIONTEST

Tougher still, that hinge has to stay perfect even after years of abuse, which is why we use a machine to

open and close laptop lids 20,000 times before they leave the test bench.

DROP TESTTo make sure that daily jostles don’t add up to long-term damage, we drop each product from a height of

30cm and repeat the test from multiple angles, letting each side and every corner of the product hits the

ground.

KEYBOARD TEST

To ensure that our laptop keyboards will hold up, we test

them to be sure most models can withstand at least 20 million

key presses. We speed up the process by using numerous probes that stand in for your

fingers. Then we mash the keys millions of times in rapid

succession.

PORT TESTWe do port plugging tests by using a machine to insert and remove a connector into and from our

systems’ ports 5,000 times. Another test checks the endurance of plug mis-insertion.

ACCELERATIONTEST

HALT test stands for Highly Accelerated Life Test, and express moves notebooks through their typical life

cycle to ferret out problems, with extensive analysis conducted by engineers.

ABRASIVETEST

Abrasive resistance test subjects ASUS ROG Notebook exteriors to friction,

indicating colors and surface materialsstay at prime condition even after

extensive and demanding usage.

PANELPRESSURETEST

We test the durability of the lid and underside of the laptop. Both need to be able to absorb

pressure without cracking or damaging any of the components inside. This is a simple test whereby a machine applies 25kg of force to the top and

bottom of our laptops.

In order to increase airflow through the ultra-slim chassis of our highest end Zephyrus laptops, our original Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) lifted to expose a small vent beneath the chassis. AAS Plus pushes that

concept further, opening up a 28.5mm high air intake behind the tilted secondary display that increases airflow by 30%. Instead of drawing in air from below where warmer components have a greater effect on intake flow, allowing our fans to draw cooler air from above. The larger space also helps keep noise levels below 43dB on

performance mode, giving you a quieter gaming experience.

Maximum cooling performCooling is one of the greatest challenges facing gaming laptops, and ROG is constantly looking for ways to improve. This drive led to liquid metals, which are extremely effective at transferring thermal energy between surfaces like a processor die and heatsink. Over a year of testing liquid metal with various proces-sors, ROG engineers observed a 10-20°C reduction in temperatures depending on the CPU. Lower temperatures help processors sustain higher clock speeds for longer and prevent fans from ramping up to louder RPMs. The additional thermal headroom can also be used to reach even faster frequencies and higher performance.ance

A mechanized arm wets its silicon brush in a container of liquid metal and then glides back and forth across the CPU. It performs exactly 17 passes, which internal testing determined is the ideal number for complete coverage.To minimize accumulation on the edges of the processor, the initial brushing pass makes contact at a different point on the surface than subsequent strokes. The die also is set inside a stainless-steel shim that prevents excess compound from spreading to the surrounding area. The shim is small enough to sit directly on the CPU package, so it can be used for different laptops from the same generation.Too little metal reduces the efficiency of thermal transfer, but too much increases the likelihood of leakage and waste. While the first pass sets the stage, a second machine injects more compound at two points on the die. To keep it from seeping out and shorting adjacent circuitry, ROG engineers created a special barrier that fits into an incredibly slim space between the heatsink and CPU package that’s only 0.1 mm tall — nearly the height of the die itself.
