And This!
Do you buy lottery ticketsin the faint hope you will win?
You stand a much better chance of losing your
data!!
The Evolution of Data Backup
As with everything to do with computers, they started out BIG, did very little, and took a long
time to do it.
Tape Libraries
Each12 inch tape held just 11.25GB of data at a density of 6250 bits/inch
Standard 12” Data Tapes
Each Tape is labeled and placed in a tape library
DLT/LTO Tape
Much higher density and smaller package
Tape Library for Cassette Tapes
DLT tapes can hold hundreds of Gigabytes of data
It doesn't like temperature changesHates the heatCan’t stand the coldIt doesn’t liked to be droppedIt is heavySubject to media instabilityStretchesProne to data drop out
Tape has a number of fundamental problems
The removable Disk
Tough portable Disk Drive
Disk to Disk Backup
• Same disadvantages as tape– They don’t like temperature changes– Even tough drives don’t like hard knocks– Require physical handling
Network Security
There is no point trying to secure your Business Class data with Consumer Class
equipment.
A $50 device will not give you the Business Class Protection you need.
The difference
Consumer class protection
Business class protection
Outside the box
There has to be a better way!
There is:
Gone are the tapes
Gone is the requirement for staff to handle the tapes
Gone is the requirement to store tapes in a library
Gone is the headache of finding the right restore tape or disk drive
Gone is the requirement of multiple backup tapes or disk drives
Gone is the lost file
The solution is!
Client Server copy 1
Local data storage, full server image and
incremental data copy 2
Secure, encrypted Internet
connectivity
Secure Data Vault where data is stored in an
encrypted format copy 3
When do we need Data Security?
