Month in Review Competition: Summer Cup – Round 1 / Stableford Wow ,what a start to the new year of Riverbend Golf club and to our first competition THE SUMMER CUP. We had prefect conditions for golf, sunny, slight breeze, and considering the dry hot weather we have had the course was in great shape. It made it prefect for good scoring. And boy did we have some scores, our handicap has had his work cut out this month with lots of handicap changes.

Winners & Results Competition and Grade Winners MONTHLY WINNER: JOHN BARRETT , with a nett round of 60. This is John's best round with RBGC and a great start to the new year. A GRADE Winner: DANIEL COELHO, with a 65 nett , this gets Daniel off and running for the year , he looms as the front runner in many of the competitions. A GRADE Runner Up: BILL GALEA, on a count back from Phil Hageman with a nett 65. Bill also figure high up in all our competitions.

B GRADE Winner: DAVID BARRACLOUGH, with a nett score of 62, David's golf is getting better by the round , it must be marriage!!!!! B GRADE Runner Up: FRANK CAMPISANO, on a count back from Ian Marchioni and Tony Yap, with a nett 68, Frank has picked up from where he left off last year playing good solid golf again. C GRADE Winner: PAUL MARTH, with a nett 64, Great to see one of our new members having a win good luck for the year ahead Paul. C GRADE Runner Up: SERGIO PALOMBI, (apologies here to Adam Kennedy I miss read the results sheet on the day) with a nett 66 , Serge had a great round and he can be up on the leaders boards by end of year. PUTTING Winner: STEVE AKERS, with 27 putts, Steve has put down the challenge to the better putters of the group with this stunning display of putting artistry , and posted a score which might be hard to beat this year. PUTTING Runner Up: ALBERT MA, with 29 putts, any other month this is a winning score but as mention the bar has been set.

Fundraising & Sponsors

This month SERGE PALOMBI looked after the BBQ very capably and we thank him for his efforts. The BBQ had a surplus of $41. We thank DANIEL COELHO for his ongoing support with donating the bread every Month. BRIAN FERGUSON did a splendid job with the raffle and had a great return of $75.

In the past I haven't included the DRINKS figures, so as of this year it will be include them and to kick it off for the year we had a turnover of $75. Thanks to TONY YAP and his Restaurant KAWANKU for Donating the CROWN LAGER Slab. TONY's Restaurant is situated at SHOP7/737 Plenty Road Mill Park (behind KFC and Hungry Jacks) Fully Licensed BYO (Wine Only) Chinese and Malaysian Cuisine If you live nearby check it out as I am sure Tony and his staff will look after you. WIL CORDOVA donated $20 McDonald’s vouchers thank you very much. Wil is the General Manager of a Chain of McDonalds stores which include Oak Park, Airport West, Flemington, Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne Central and Melbourne Central 2, again if you are driving passed any of these stores pop in for a meal deal or two. The TELSTRA Two Stroke 18th Hole for the bottle of CHIVAS REGAL SCOTCH (jackpot next month) sponsored by ABERT MA’s T- Stores which are situated at 203 Queen St Melbourne and Suite 09, Ground Floor 628 Bourke St Melbourne. From the Prez We had our best turn out in years with 37 players and 4 guests ,shows that our club is in a good position for the future, with 41 members on our books , which should give us the ideal playing roster of 36 players every month . There was no newsletter for December 2013 , So I'd like to thank our Wil Cordova with setting up the McDonalds marquee and having the chipping contest which raised $100.00 for the club. It was an awesome idea and I hope Wil can do it every few months. If you have an idea on how to raise monies for the club put it forward and make it happen. The club at year's end had a bank balance of just under $3,000. This figure is made up of Membership Fees and the fund raiser's and past saving of the club. Caps and shirts are on the agenda , I've researched pricing and I'm close to present to you guys the final cost. Our logo has been voted for and it's the one that is on this newsletter. But there was a close second, maybe we can find a way of using both. Also as spoken about last year a world cup type format is close to happening, more info soon. Gentleman could you take a bit of care with making the cards, please make sure you print neatly, place your name on the card you are marking, circle your birdies, print eagles nest on top of the card and make sure it's added up right. - Prez
